Food Items To Limit

1. Red Meat: meat, beef, and pork

2. Organ Meat: liver and kidney

3. Seafood: anchovies, shellfish, sardines, and tuna

4. Beer & Alcohol

5. Sugary foods & Drinks: Coke/Pepsi, sweetened cereals, cakes/pastries, candies,


and sweet fruit juices.

6. Vegetables: Tomotto, mushroom, asparagus, and spinach

7. Protein-rich vegetarian sources like soya, paneer, dals ( arhar/ rajma/ Kabuli chana).

B. Do's And Don'ts

Do's:

1. Eat more vegetables.

2. Drink plenty of water.

3. Exercise between 30 minutes to one hour each day with moderate exercise - brisk
walking, team sport, cycling, or swimming.

Don'ts:
avoid fast foods

1. Rely on soft drinks, sweetened cereals, cookies and cakes, donuts and pastries,
chips, and confectionery to get you through the day.

2. Don't eat more than two or three pieces of fruit per day.

3. Avoid alcohol and other carbonated beverages.

4. Avoid red meat, organ meats, seafood.

C. Food Items You Can Easily Consume:

1. Cereals: Whole grains-rice, wheat, jowar, bajra

2. Pulses: red gram, green gram, black gram,Bengal gram


3. Vegetables: all gourds-bitter gourd, snake gourd, ridge gourd, bottle gourd, ivy
gourd, ladies finger, tinda, green leafy vegetables

4. Fruits: banana, citrus fruits-orange, mousambi, grapefruit, lemon; berries-


strawberry, blueberry, blackberry, cranberry, cherries, papaya, pineapple.

D. SAMPLE DIET PLAN -1600 KCAL FOR HIGH URIC ACID

Breakfast:

2 roti (multi-grain ) with seasonal veg

or 2 veg sandwiches (Whole-grain bread)

or unsweetened cereal ( 1 Katori) with skim or low-fat milk-1 cup,

Mid meal snack:

fresh strawberries/musk melon/pineapple/pomegranate and 1 cup Coffee (skim -milk)

Lunch:

1 cup brown rice+2 roti+1/2 cup chana dal+1/2 cup capsicum/parwal/lauki ki sabzi

or Roasted chicken breast slices (2 ) on a whole-grain roll with mustard

with Mixed green salad with vegetables and olive oil dressing+ low-fat curd/raita

Afternoon snack:

1 cup fresh cherries/sprouts + fistful of nuts/seeds (almond/walnut/chia/pumpkin)

or vegetable soup
Dinner:

3 roti+1/2 cup cauliflower/tinda/bhindi/tori curry + 1 cup cucumber salad

or Roasted salmon (2 )+Roasted or steamed green beans-1/2 to 1 cup +whole-grain


pasta with olive oil

with Low-fat yogurt

post-dinner:

Caffeine-free beverage, such as herbal tea(chamomile)
