History It all began with two brothers from Brixen, Julius and
Gilbert Durst, whose photographic inclinations were
more than just coincidental. In addition to the early
interest in photography, the brothers also developed a
remarkable technical talent. In their younger years,
they designed and cobbled together hunting guns,
kites, gliders, radios and even grass skis, bobsleighs and
rocket cars.
Nevertheless their interest continued to focus on
photography. To be able to properly exploit patents
they had registeres for their photographic instruments,
the brothers needed more capital and needed to
reorganize the business.
In 1933 the commercial management side was taken Julius Durst
over by the Oberrauch family, owner of a leather
factory in Bozen and interested in the plans put
forward by the Durst brothers.
Combining the know-how with the capital soon bore
fruit and it induced the two pairs of brothers,
Oberrauch and Durst, to officially establish the
company Durst Phototechnik AG in 1936.
