after duly repaired and in good condition.

Myself, like every Indian I am also waiting for the most awaited cricket match between India and
Pakistan in T-20 World cup tournament. Randomly I choose the number 216 (out of 249) on behalf of
India, the chart erected and details given below.

ROLE OF BADHAKA PLANET

Introduction :-
Initially the Badhaka planet was mentioned by Jaimini Maharshi, later on Krishna Murthy Garu
emphasised the role of Badhaka planet. KrIshna Murthy Garu mentioned that the role of Badhaka
planet is very much effective during the death/ Health of the individual when it coincides with the
Maraka planets : 2,7,12. However, in my research I found the role of Badhaka is equally effective in
all the Bhavas.
Who is Badhaka?
The Janma Lagnas are of 3 types:
(1). Sthira Lagnas
(2). Chara Lagnas
(3). Dwiswabhava Lagnas
For Sthira Lagnas, the 9th Bhava lord i.e in whichever Raasi the 9th Cusp originates, that Raasi lord
becomes the Badhaka planet for Sthira Lagnas.
For Chara Lagnas, the 11th Bhava lord i.e in whichever Raasi the 11th Cusp originates, that Raasi
lord becomes Badhaka planet for Chara Lagnas.
For Dwiswabha Lagnas, the 7th Bhava lord i.e in whichever Raasi the 7th Cusp originates, that
Raasi lord becomes Badhaka planet for Dwiswabhava Lagnas.
The Lagnas:
The Sthira Lagnas are - Vrushabha Lagna, Simha Lagna, Vrushchika Lagna, Kumbha Lagna. For
these Lagnas as said the 9th Bhava lord becomes the Badhaka. Most commonly for Vrushabha
Lagna the 9th Bhava originates in Makara Raasi hence Saturn becomes the Badhaka planet. If
there is a Cuspal displacement, the 9th Bhava can sometimes originate in Dhanu Raasi hence
Jupiter can become the Badhaka. With the same logic, if the 9th Cusp originates in the Kumbha
Raasi, Saturn himself becomes Badhaka.
Most commonly for Simha Lagna the 9th Bhava originates in Mesha Raasi hence Mars becomes
the Badhaka planet. If there is a Cuspal displacement, the 9th Bhava can sometimes originate in
Vrushabha Raasi hence Venus can become the Badhaka. With the same logic, if the 9th Cusp
originates in the Meena Raasi, Jupiter himself becomes Badhaka.
Most commonly for Vrushchika Lagna the 9th Bhava originates in Karkaataka Raasi hence Moon
becomes the Badhaka planet. If there is a Cuspal displacement, the 9th Bhava can sometimes

The Chara Lagnas are: Mesha Lagna, Karkaataka Lagna, Tula Lagna and Makara Lagna. For these
Lagnas as said the 11th Bhava lord becomes the Badhaka. Most commonly for Mesha Lagna
the11th Bhava originates in Kumbha Raasi hence Saturn becomes the Badhaka planet. If there is a
Cuspal displacement, the 11th Bhava can sometimes originate in Meena Raasi hence Jupiter can
become the Badhaka. With the same logic, if the 11th Cusp originates in the Makara Raasi, Saturn
himself becomes Badhaka.
Most commonly for Karkaataka Lagna the11th Bhava originates in Vrushabha Raasi hence Venus
originate in Mesha Raasi hence Mars can become the Badhaka. With the same logic, if the 11th
Cusp originates in the Midhuna Raasi, Mercury himself becomes Badhaka.
Most commonly for Tula Lagna the11th Bhava originates in Simha Raasi hence Ravi becomes the
Badhaka planet. If there is a Cuspal displacement, the 11th Bhava can sometimes originate in
Karkaataka Raasi hence Moon can become the Badhaka. With the same logic, if the 11th Cusp
originates in the Midhuna Raasi, Mercury himself becomes Badhaka.
Most commonly for Makara Lagna the 11th Bhava originates in Vrushchika Raasi hence Mars
originate in Tula Raasi hence Venus can become the Badhaka. With the same logic, if the 11th
Cusp originates in the Dhanu Raasi, Jupiter himself becomes Badhaka.
The Dwiswabha Lagnas are: Midhuna Lagna, Kanya Lagna, Dhanu Lagna and Meena Lagna. For
these Lagnas as said the 7th Bhava lord becomes the Badhaka. For Dwiswabhava Lagnas, there
are no Cuspal displacements. Hence for Midhuna & Kanya Lagnas the 7th Bhava always originates
in Dhanu and Meena Lagnas so Jupiter becomes Badhaka for Midhuna & Kanya Lagnas.
Similarly, for Dhanu & Meena Lagnas the 7th Bhava always originates in Midhuna and Kanya
Lagnas so Mercury becomes Badhaka for Dhanu & Meena Lagnas.
Effects :
The Badhaka planet never denies its own portfolios as an occupant or ownership of its own Bhavas
in an individual’s horoscope. With its original results, Bhadakatvam creates extra problems in most
of the aspects as follows:
(1). The natural Kaakatvas are troubled:
(i) If Saturn is Badhaka, the Poorva Karma results are suffered. The
professional work and hardship, working in any organisations will not
give full results. Also any due results gets more and more delayed. The
medical results in allergies, glands, orthopaedics are troubled.
(ii) If Jupiter is Badhaka, the legal issues, relations with teachers, spiritual
progress, gets troubled and also gets cheated by fraud spiritual gurus.
Medically liver , intestines, esophagus gets troubled. If conjoined
with Rahu, it can create cancer.

(iii) If Ravi is Badhaka, issues with the government, professional growth,
name and fame, issues with father gets troubled, Medically head,
forehead, heart, eyes gets affected.
(iv) If Mars is Badhaka, the work hardship in uniform services is

un recognised and troubles in real estate. Unwanted fights and
troubles in one’s life gets frequently originated. Most prone to
accidents. Medically surgeries, blood related diseases will be there.
(v) If Mercury is Badhaka, then accounts, business, share markets gets

troubled. Medically nervous system, ENT, tongue, speech,
intellectuality gets troubled.
(vi) If Moon is Badhaka, issues with mother, communication, frequent

plumbing repairs. Medically lungs, psychiatric problems, breast
issues, etc.
(vii) If Venus is Badhaka, non recognition of fine arts talent, too much
expenses for cosmetics, troubles with ladies are identified.
Medically pancreas, kidneys, sexual organs are affected.
Since Rahu and Ketu do not have any ownerships, if they are conjoined with Badhaka planet and in
Badhaka Sthanam, they amplify the Badhaka troubles.
Other Effects from highest to lowest:
1. The planets in Badhaka Sthana and the Badhaka Sthana results get very badly troubled.
2. The planets in the Badhaka planet stars and subs gets very badly troubled.
3. The planets conjoined with Badhaka planet gets troubled.
4. The planets on whom Badhaka planets Dhrusti is there they get troubled.
5. The Bhaava on which Badhaka planets Dhrusti is there they get troubled.
6. The Bhava which has badhaka as sub gets troubled
7. As per the 3 types of Badhakas, The Chara Langas Badhakas (11th lords) gives highest trouble.
So elder sisters, brothers, friends will trouble.
8. As per the 3 types of Badhakas, The Dwiswabhava Langas Badhakas (7th lords) gives 2nd
highest trouble. So issues with spouse, business partners, unknown persons gets troubled
9. As per the 3 types of Badhakas, The Sthira Langas Badhakas (9th lords) gives medium to least
troubles. So issues with post graduation, Poorva Punyam, professional and political growth,
issues with father gets affected.
Relief from Badhaka planet:
1. If the Badhaka planet for Chara Lagnas (11th) gets connected to 10th Bhaava (12th from 11th),
the Badhaka effect reduces
2. If the Badhaka planet for Dwiswabhava Lagnas (7th) gets connected to 6th Bhaava (12th from
7th), the Badhaka effect reduces
3. If the Badhaka planet for Sthira Lagnas (9th) gets connected to 8th Bhaava (12th from 9th), the
Badhaka effect reduces
4. The Jupiter aspect on Badhaka planet and Badhaka Sthana will reduce the Badhaka effect.
However very unfortunately for Midhuna and Kanya Lagnas, Jupiter himself is Badhaka.

5. The remedies for every planet in every Shaastra like Mantra japa, Stotras for the Badhaka
planet’s Adhishtana Devata, Daanas will definitely reduce the Badhaka’s troubles.

1. Jupiter :- Dattatreya Stotras and Sacharitras

2. Ravi :- Surya Stotras
3. Mercury :- Srimannarayana Stotras
4. Mars :- Kumaraswamy Stotras
5. Saturn :- Venkateshwara, Hanuman and Kalabhairava Stotras
6. Moon :- Durga Stotras
7. Venus :- Mahalakshmi Stotras
8. Rahu :- Chandi Stotras
9. Ketu :- Ganapati Stotras
The role of the Badhaka is more prominent in Birth Chart, rather than Horary and Time Charts. So
the above article is based on my 20-odd years of research in the KP System. I hope all the KP
practitioners will carefully diagnose the role of Badhaka as above to guide their clients in a better

There are some who will say that the Moon’s Nodes (Rahu and Ketu) are worthless. Others will claim
they help. Who are you to believe?
Some says that Rahu and Ketu do not solely produce any significant effect and their influence is also
minimum.
Astrology has the seven visible grahas - Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn along
with the two lunar nodes - Rahu and Ketu. Rahu and Ketu are accepted as grahas in Indian astrology
only. They are considered as shadowy - grahas. The details available about Rahu and Ketu are
confusing. Astrological texts don’t have a unanimous opinion about Rahu - Ketu. These opinions
create confusion in the mind of astrologers as well as astrology followers. So, there is a need of study
on Rahu - Ketu. Rahu - Ketu are considered as recent developments by many scholars But, this is not
true. Their references are available m Vedas itself.
The word Rahu is derived from the root “रह – त्यागे”, “रहति ग्रहहत्वा त्यजति चन्द्र इति”. It is called so
because it seizes hold of and lets go the moon. He is also known by names such as Tamas, Svarbhanu,
Saimhikeya, Vidhuntuda, Asrapisaca, Grahakallola, Sirsaka, Upaplava, Sarpa, Phani, Ahi, Cakri,
Dhvanta, Paiika, Kundali, BhogI, Uparaga, Kakodara etc.
Hindu Astrology has given importance and recognition to Rahu and Ketu, the two Nodes of the
Moon, physically non-existent, yet regarded and treated as full-fledge planets. The Hindus conceived
the Moon's Nodes as the cross-roads of magnetic influences full of potency and gave them the status
of planets in so far their effects are concerned. The Indian Astrology can thus be said to be
dependent on these two shadowy points.
A knowledge of Rahu and Ketu has existed from ancient times of our learned Sages. This can be
remembered that our Sages of thousands of years ago were able to forecast Eclipses.
The names they attached to these points were accordingly somewhat striking. A monster called the
Serpent or Dragon, with little variation of form, was used to depict the general influence of these
points.
The Earth itself is symbolically presented in the horoscope in two important ways. One is the position
of the Earth with reference to the earth's annual motion and this is given by the apparent position of
the Sun. The second is the particular point of space and moment of time when a birth takes place
and this is the ascendant.
If you leave out of the Moon's Nodes, you can miss one of the most important luck areas in any chart.
There is little doubt that the omission of the Moon's Nodes (Rahu and Ketu) from a nativity is a severe
handicap to the interpreter of the horoscope. The subtle relationship between the Sun, the Moon
and the Earth plays a large part in the unfoldment of each individual's consciousness. The ecliptic is
the plane of the Earth's journey round the Sun. Rahu and Ketu show at which points the Moon is also
in alignment with Sun-Earth relationship, thus making possible a more perfect rapport between the

three bodies and indicating at which precise point in the zodiac the main effects of such a rapport
can be anticipated.
It is really astonishing to note that mere points of intersection of the Earth and the Moon's Nodes
should be so strong in their impact on human life. It had been recognized that they produce
marvelous effect, at times more than the planets. Since Rahu and Ketu are in exact opposition to
each other, the effect of these Nodes should be considered simultaneously.
Rahu is known as the Dragon's Head and Ketu as the Dragon's Tail. This provides a clue to the
significance of the Moon's Nodes, for the Head is forward looking, while the Tail represents the past.
The position of Rahu represents the qualities to be developed and work to be done during the present
incarnation and the position of Ketu shows the qualities developed during past lives and thus
indicates attitudes that come naturally to the native. They are classified as Karmic planets. We can
thus expect to find the native manifesting a good many of the qualities represented by the sign
containing Ketu and to be seeking to express the qualities belonging to the signs in which Rahu is
placed. The manner in which these qualities are expressed will be shown by the sign and Houses they
occupy and the aspects they receive. A planet in conjunction with Rahu or Ketu has special
significance in relation to the things signified by the Node it is with.
We can generally say that Rahu in the first half and Ketu in the second half of a natal chart indicate
that the native's position will deteriorate with age. Ketu in the first half and
Rahu in the second half suggest that the native will be more and more prosperous with age. The
intensity of effects will, however, be subject to the powers of other planets on Rahu and Ketu.
Well posited Rahu and Ketu with beneficial connections and aspects rise the native to dizzy heights
in life. No other planet can be compared to the Nodes in this respect. So, too, the afflicted Nodes
strike the native with leprosy, drive them mad or chase them to forests.
According to Hindu Astrology, both Rahu and Ketu are malefic but Ketu is considered to be spiritual
causing salvation to human souls and Rahu is more earthly indicating mundane prosperity. The effects
of the Nodes are not always evil. They are also productive of what are called Raja Yogas – indicating
power, position and attainments and these become fully manifest during their main and sub-periods.
By and large, the Nodes seem to have a constructive role to play in the long run, for, after making
the native pass through various phases of difficulties and sufferings, they will also enable him to
progress spiritually. But in cases where the Nodes join poisonous parts of the constellation along with
Mars or Saturn without any benefic association or aspect, life will be marked by misery, struggle and
misunderstanding throughout.
Ancient Sages have called Rahu a diplomat and Ketu, a seer. Rahu and Ketu eclipse the Sun and
the Moon representing the soul and the mind respectively. Hence, they have a great influence on
the Soul's liberation or rebirth. Rahu or Ketu within two degrees of the ascendant give an unusual type
of personality and very distinctive appearance.
Rahu has the influence of Venus and Jupiter. When the native learns the growth at Rahu, with
Jupiter/Venus influence exerted here, he begins to give at this point. Rahu is exalted in Gemini, Ruler
in Virgo, Harmony in Libra, Fallen in Sagittarius, Detriment in Pisces and In-harmony in Aries.
Ketu has the influence of a Mars conjunct Saturn. When the native learns the disciplinary influence
that the Saturn/ Mars connotation exerts over his Ketu, he is meeting destiny. Ketu is exalted in
Sagittarius, Ruler in Pisces, Harmony in Aries, Fallen in Gemini, Detriment in Virgo and In-harmony in
Libra.
Rahu is feminine. Its gem is Agate or Lapisluzzili. Rahu rules over three asterisms-Ardra, Swati and
Shatabhisha. They fall in the signs of Gemini, Libra and Aquarius ruled by Mercury, Venus and Saturn

respectively; which form a group of very intimate planets. Mercury rules intellect, Venus rules pleasure
and Saturn rules misery, hence Rahu's portfolio is to give these in plenty. Rahu by nature is said to
resemble Saturn, who has sway over Air, one of the five elements. Incidentally, it may be noted that
all these signs, indirectly ruled by Rahu, from the Airy Triplicity. Rahu governs paternal grand-father
and maternal grandmother. Rahu's period is for 18 years in Vimshottari Dasa.
Ketu in enunch. Its gem is Turquoise. Ketu rules Ashwini, Magha and Moola, which are situated in the
signs Aries, Leo and Sagittarius respectively. These signs are ruled by Mars, the Sun and Jupiter
respectively. These three planets are very intimate friends. Mars rules powers, Sun rules the soul and
Jupiter rules the wisdom. A correct blending of these three
Characteristics will lead to liberation. Hence Ketu is said to be conductive to liberation. Further, these
signs form the Fiery Triplicity. Fire is ruled by Mars, hence Ketu is said similar to Mars in giving effects.
Ketu rules maternal grandfather and paternal grand-mother. Ketu's period is for 7 years in Vimshottari
Dasa.
Rahu gives effects throughout while Ketu in the ending period. Rahu represents the tall, while Ketu
the short persons.

In the last issue I have already discussed about the criterion how a Plant attains Positional Status. Now,
I will move further that what the results are offered by a Planet having Positional Status.
The Planet having Positional Status will offer the following results of the houses:
1. The house occupied by the Planet in the Bhava chart.
2. The houses where the Planet appears as Sign or Star or Sub or Sub-Sub in the cuspal positions
of those houses.
True Astrology software shows the Cuspal Positions just below the Planetary Positions. The Cuspal
position table has 12 rows corresponding to 12 houses and four columns. The Sign rising on each cusp
indicates the Sign lord ship of the house. It is indicated by the first column. The second column
indicates the Star lord of the cusp; third column indicates the Sub lord of the cusp and the fourth
column indicates the SSL of the cusp. The Sign lord, Star lord, Sub lord and SSL of the cusp are called
the co-rulers of the cusp.
For example in chart as shown below Ascendant rises in Capricorn 28° 32' 13". The Ascendant is said
to be co-ruled by Saturn, Mars, Saturn and Ketu. Sometimes we say the Planets co-ruling the
Ascendant are Saturn, Mars, Saturn and Ketu. The above two statements are identical in significance.

In this chart we see that Moon, Mercury and Venus have Positional position. Let us see what
significations these Planets offers as per their Positional Status.
Moon occupies 12 Bhava. It appears as sign lord of 7. Thus, due to fact that Moon has PS it will give
the results of 7 and 12.
Mercury occupies 9 Bhava. It appears as sign lord of cusps 5, 6 and 8. It is star lord of 7 and sub lord
of 2. This means moon having PS will offer the result of the houses 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9.
Venus occupies 11 Bhava. It appears as sign lord of 4 and 9. It appears as sub lord of 4, 5, 6 and 10.
It also appears as sub-sub lord of 11. This means Venus will the results of 4, 5, 6, 9, 10 and 11.
These significations only indicates that the Planets Moon, Mercury and Venus during their Dasa
Periods (DBASP) will offer the results of above houses.
The Planet always gives the results of its Star Lord. This is called Stellar Status of a Planet. The Planet will
always give the results of the following houses:
1. The house occupied by the Star Lord in the Bhava Chart.
2. The houses where its Star Lord appears in the cuspal positions as sign lord or star lord or sub lord
or sub-sub lord.
In CIL system a Planet always gives the results as per its Stellar Status and Positional Status, if any.
Let us study the chart what the Planet Sun will offer the results during its Dasa Periods. Sun does not
have PS. So, it will give results as per Stellar Status or the results offered by its Star Lord. Sun is in Jupiter
star. Jupiter is placed in Ascendant i.e., 1. Jupiter appears as sign lord of 2, 11 and 12. It appears as
star lord of 6 and sub-sub lord of 4 and 12. Summarizing all, we can say that the Planet Sun will offer
the results of 1, 2, 4, 6, 11 and 12 houses as per its Stellar Status.

c. If Moon comes as the SSL of Ascendant, it always establishes relationship.
d. The Starlord of Moon can be in the Star or Sub or Sub-Sublord of the Ascendant.
In this natal chart, Lagna SSL is MOON. Moon’s Starlord is Mercury. The above (c) rule is tallied here.

In the previous class-1, we learnt the following:-

A Planet offers it’s results in two types:- (1) Positional Status, (2) Stellar Status.
The Planet which is in Positional status will also give the results as per it’s Stellar Status.
We learnt about the Positional Status. It is as follows:-
1. When there is no Planet in it’s Stars.

2. When there is a planet in it’s own Star.
3. When there is Mutual Exchange of their Starlords.
4. When a Planet is in the star of Rahu or Ketu:- (4-a) in Own Star, (4-b) in Mutual Exhange.

How to read a Planet:-In the same way, Planet Sun is co-ruled by Jupiter, Saturn, Ketu and

APPLICATION OF POSITIONAL STATUS & STELLAR STATUS.

1. The Planet which is in P.S. will give the results of (a) the house occupied by

Sun is in the star of Saturn. Saturn is an occupant of 6 house in Bhava Chart. It also appears as

3,4,5,6,9 &10 in Cuspal Position table. Sun totally gives it’s results 3,4,5,6,9 &10.
In the same way let us check the planet Saturn which is not in P.S because there are planets in
Saturn Stars. Saturn is in the star of Venus which is the occupant of 4 in Bhva chart and Venus
appears in Cuspal Position as 2,7,9,12. Thus Saturn totally gives it’s Stellar results as
2,4,7,9,&12.
In the same chart, let us check the planet Rahu which is not in P.S because there is a planet in
Rahu star. Rahu is in the star of Sun which is the occupant of 4 in Bhava chart. Sun appears in
cuspal position as 3,7,10. Thus totally Rahu gives it’s stellar results as 3,4,7 & 10.
NOTE:- A Planet will always offer the results as per it’s stellar status and P.S (if
any).
3. Rahu and Ketu are also considered as Planets. They will offer the results as
per their Positional Status and Stellar Status.
In this example chart, Rahu is not in P.S. So it gives only it’s Stellar Status only. Rahu is in the
star of Sun. Sun is the occupant of 4 house in Bhava Chart. It appears in Cuspal Position Table

According to Inter-cuspal theory, both Rahu and Ketu represent the planets which
are their Sign and Starlords. In other words, Rahu and Ketu will provide the
