When I was elementary school. I always looked forward to August 17


because it was the day of Indonesia’s independence. There were a lot of
entertainments, such as parade, competition, and much more. On that day
I had a most memorable experience.
When I was 10 years old, I participated in various competitions in m
y school. At that time, all the students in my school joined the competition
for the prizes that had been prepared by the committee. I enthusiastically j
oined all the race too. However, I couldn’t win. The last competition was
the sack race. I walk limply toward the sack then suddenly I heard my frien
ds cheering me up. I took the sack and jumped quickly. I fell in the middle
of the race but I quickly stood up and continued the race. Finally, I won the
last race. I was happy and proud. I got a trophy and dedicated it to my frien
ds. Until now, the trophy is still sitting in my desk.

Redfeathers the Hen
Redfeathers, the hen, was so-called ause all her feathers were red. One ay, the fox cau
ght sight of her in the armyard and his mouth began to water.
He ran home and told his wife to put n water for boiling a chicken, and the e rushed b
ack, and before Redfeathers knew what was happening, she found herself snapped up and insi
de a sack, not even able to call for help.
Luckily for her, her friend the dove saw what had happened. She fluttered on the path in the

Long, long ago, when the gods and goddesses used to mingle in the affairs of mortals, there w
as a small kingdom on the slope of Mount Wayang in West Java. The King, named Sang Prab
u, was a wise man.
He had an only daughter, called Princess Teja Nirmala, who was famous for her beauty but sh
e was not married. One day Sang Prabu made up his mind to settle the matter through a show
of strength.
After that, the Prince of Blambangan, named Raden Begawan won the competition. Unfortun
ately, the wicked fairy, Princess Segara fell in love with Raden Begawan and used magic pow
er to render him unconscious and he forgot his wedding.
When Sang Prabu was searching, Raden Begawan saw him and soon realized that he had bee
n enchanted by the wicked fairy. The fairy could not accept this, so she killed Raden Begawa
n. When Princess Teja Nirmala heard this, she was very sad. So a nice fairy took her to the K
ahyangan.
