Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
Background of the study
A SEAIT-Canteen Automated Food Teller System w/ SMS (SEAIT-CAFTS
w/ SMS), is a software design to have efficient and convenient function for the
school canteen. It helps the students, school staffs, teachers and other personnel
of the school for the time consumed buying food in the canteen. It also
automatically computes the payments and directly deducts the amount to the
existing balance using the ID validation card and also print the receipt and
balance. In registration of the student ID validation card to create their account
they are going to deposit amount of money to use in buying food in the school
canteen.
The South East Asian Institute of Technology, Inc. Offer free education to all
programs in college. The supported with different government sectors and NGO’s.
February 2006 is the foundation of the dream school, South East Asian Institute of
Technology, Inc. With famous acronym (SEAIT). It is located at National Highway,
Barangay Crossing Rubber, Tupi, South Cotabato.

It is founded by Tamayo Family’s desire to make a tangible contribution to the
community and provide access to the students who have burning desire to educate
themselves. They believe that education is one of means of achieving a better future for
one self and his family is the main reason why putting up the school was conceived. In
additional to this fact that the founders have been looking at ways on how to give back
to the community what they have received from it.
In manual process of giving change and compute payments of students during
rush hour is time consuming for the students who are running out time. Finding change
for bills is difficult in part of the canteen personnel, income loss in a day is headache for
the canteen personnel. For students, school staff, and other school personnel it is time
consuming to go in the canteen to check their balance into their accounts.
Statement of the problem
 Using other ID validation card for paying in their purchase
 Difficult to change for the cashier who have big bills in paying their purchase.
 Time consuming for the student to wait until the cashier get change for their bills.
 Delay of transactions, due to manual process of counting and compute
customers purchase.
 Short income, because some of their customer are not paying their purchase.
 Time consuming to go in the canteen to check their balance into their accounts.
General Objective
The researchers aim to study and develop a Seait-Canteen Automated Food
Teller System w/ SMS for South East Asian Institute of Technology (SEAIT), at Brgy.
Crossing Rubber, Tupi, South Cotabato.
Specific objective
 Every account must have a pin code for security and safety purposes
 To lessen time consume in waiting for their change.
 No income loss, because of manual process.
 To have organize and convenient transactions.
 To secure the deposit money on their account using their ID validation
card in buying food to the school canteen.
Scope and Limitation of the study
Scope of the Study
A SEAIT-Canteen Automated Food Teller System w/ SMS (SEAIT-CAFTS
w/ SMS) is only bonafied in student, faculty,and staff of SEAIT, and other personnel
information, it also automatically compute payments and it directly deducts the amount
in their existing balance using there valid Identification card and it can print a receipt to
check the customer balance. In case of valid Identification lost the account will be
blocked.
Limitation of the Study
The SEAIT-CAFTS w/ SMS is intended only to students, who are
registered in the system and cannot cater the students who are not registered will
not be catered or allowed and there must be 50(pesos) balanced per account.
Significance of the Study
Canteen Personnel
This would be easy to an in–charged to organize and convenient
transactions.
School staffs/Teachers:
This would help then to lessen time consumed in waiting for change.
Students:
They would save their money and for a convenient and fast transaction.
