IRON AND STEEL INDUSTRY IN INDIA
Iron and steel in india is over 125 year old, india is
with Largest Production of crude steel in the world production
of 33 million MT and investment of Rs 1,000 billion. The
country produced 326 Million MT finished. Steel in 2003-2004,
compared to a Messger one million MT came from the
secondary Producers accounted for 15.18 Million MT. The steel
industry in India in India after the policy reforms Since 1991 is
placed is a totally new environment price Regulation of iron and
steel was oblished on 16.01.1992. The Indian Government, like
others has Realigned These policies to adjust to the
Recoganization and Re orientation of the forces of competitions
from imports and market opportunities for exports have become
normal features for iron and steel industry in a recent Study
Conducted by Ministry of steel, Demand for finished steel has
been forecast to the following levels.

Re-rolling Industry in India

There were 1192 Re-rolling Units in the Country with
total installed capacity of 23.82 Million MT per anum. These
units produced 6.57 million MT during the year 1999-2000. The
same went upto over 8.00 Million MT. The share secondry steel
producer in india out of the total production of finished steel has
been assessed at 59 percent which itself prove theachivement of
the these sector.
The secondary industry has always been
recoginsed by the government and steel export as a complement
to the main stream of steel industry. The industries crtered
thousand and MP of its products to crore project, darms. State
Electricity boards and other infrastructure projects in india. The
steel re-rolling industry caters to the needs of the domestic field
up to the tune of 68 percent of the total Requirement. 80 percent
of the total experts of rounds and bars have been recorded from
the secondary steel producers.

Demand
Apart from Demand for steel from housing
sectors. Substancial demand will be there from other major end
the use opplication as given below:
a) Industrial Buildings and Civil Works
b) Commercial buildings and complex.
c) Dams and Bridges
d) Infrastructure projects excluding roads and
bridges.
e) Other uses including industrial uses.
The Indian Government has given top priority to
infrastructure development during the next 10 year. Hence huge
investments propsed in this sector will result in large scale civil
works which leads to substacial increasing demand for steel a
part from cement and sand. Similarly planned approaches
towards economic growth will similate industrial activity.
Establishment of new industrial undertakings in large sizes will
be required to maintain substancial high industrial production as
there are remote changes of many of presently closed industrial
units. Booming consumer has triggered construction of
commercial buildings and related civil works such as
amusement park, sprots grounds etc.
While it is well understtod that demand for steel
all the above sector wil be sunstacial are continuously growing,
qualifying these demand sector wise and region wise becomes
very difficult due divers nature of each sector wil requirement
horms and uncertainties in actual implementation of various
plans. However, on a reasonable basic, the total deman from the
above sectorsmay be assumed to be 100 to 150% of demand
from housing sector by 125% , the total demand on, All india
basic and for individual state may be estimated. As
Transportation cost will be major factor, long Products Sales
will be generally with in a radicus 200-250 km from the rolling
mills.

Product Market
The Products of the plant are fall under the
category by bars and roads. It will be gathering to Tamil Nadu
Market and Kerala Market. The major thrust area of market will
be about 250 km redicus around Coimbatore, where the until
will be located with industry people and data available are
prepared for demand in Coimbatore region CTD for bars, TMT
bars and structural with likely break up in normally moving
sizes. More over, the market scope in analysed here as a new
entrant without much business contracts ogun steels, belonging
to a leading business group in Coimbatore and palakkad with
many group in comoanies and a large number of customers,
business association and material / product suppliers are
expected to successfully market the entire output of products
without any difficulty, especially with a good product quality
based on a graded input material for billet.

Manufatring Process – Induction melting Unit.

They are introduced to a Medium Frequency

Induction Furance where they are heated to about 1800 and the
molter metal is poured in to ladies and then contions caster.
Various types of iron scrap is melted in the fuild, certain
additives are added. Acurrate temperature and compositional
control is ensured with this melting system. The melting process
will be carried out with in one and half hour. Before the molter
metal is poured in to the moluds, they will be tested for their
chemical composition.

The billets will be produced using continous

casting is the process whereby molten steel is solidfiled into a
“Semi finished” billet, bloom or slab for subsequent rolling in
the finishing mills. Continous casting has opted to achieve
improved yield, quality, productivity and cost efficiency. Steel
from the electric furnance is tapped into a ladle and taken to the
continuous casting machine. The ladle is raised onto a turret and
that taken to rotates the ladle into the casting position above
Tundish. Liquid steel flows out of the ladle, into the tundish and
then in a water-cooled cooper mold. Solidification begins in the
mold, and continous through the first one and strand guide. In
the configuration, the strand is straightened, torch-cut, then
discharged for intermediate storage. The flow chart for M.S
Billets manufacturing is shown in Figure 2.1

CONCULSION:
The project is well conceived and effectively
planned by one of the leading industrial houses of dindigul.

With the Indian GDP growth poised to reach 8 percent and

position indicating a high level investment in frastructure fields,
the private emphasis on development in infrastructural facilities
in the country the steel industry will witness accelerated growth
of more than 15% per annum. Realizing this trend, Jaleel Steel
corporation has taken a proactive step to expand the production
capacity of its steel melting unit located in dindigul district
which is in close proximately to the growing infrastructure
market.
