After every point, especially after an illustration, invite input from the class either by asking a question or

Remember that this is not a free-for-all where everybody is pooling their ignorance but that there is a truth that
the scripture is teaching that is not dependent on what anybody feels or thinks
If you are asked questions you cannot answer, do not be scared to say so and to assure them that next time the
group meets you would have found out the answer.
1. What is Faith,
a. Saving faith, Eph. 2:1-10
i. Faith is turning to God
ii. It is the flip side of repentance (turning from sin)
iii. Faith + repentance = conversion
Illustration: Just like a coin has both heads and tails so in conversion repentance and saving faith are
two sides of the same coin.
b. Faith from God's grace
i. Grace is an attribute of God
1. An attribute is a "characteristic" of God which He is such as love, mercy,
2. Grace is the unmerited favor of God, Gen.6:5-8
ii. Two types of grace ·
1. Common grace is God's bestowal of His blessings to all men, that is,
believers and unbelievers, Matt. 5:44-45; Acts 14:16-17
2. Saving grace is the grace God bestows for people to believe in the gospel
and be saved, Eph. 2:8,9
iii. Grace is the prerequisite for faith
1. Gen.15:1-6
Illustration: For a living organism to survive there is need for a conducive environment such as
temperature and oxygen. The conducive environment for faith is the grace of God. Without it, there is no
faith.
Application:
c. Faith Comes by Hearing the Word
i. Rom. 10:14-17
ii. Acts 14:8-10
Illustration: The human body has precursor enzymes that prepare the stomach for
food that is being chewed in the mouth to be processed. The word of God,
specifically the promises of God, activate faith in our hearts to believe these
promises of God.
d. D. How to Grow in Faith
i. Know that faith is based on God's grace
ii. Know that faith comes by hearing the word of God
iii. Spend 20 minutes a day reading the Bible systematically
iv. Spend time in prayer and meditation
v. Memorize and meditate on a verse that assures you of God's promise in your
situation

Introduction
In the first lesson on faith, we teamed what is the basis of faith i.e. grace. In this lesson, we learn how to
activate our faith by looking at the examples of faith in Hebrews chapter eleven. Hebrews chapter eleven
has been called “the faith hall of fame” because of the great heroes of faith that are portrayed in it.
