1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 This Specification is for the supply of Conveyor Belting.
1.2 All equipment and services shall comply with the mandatory requirements of the
Mines Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996 and regulations (as amended).
1.3 The Vendor is to ensure that he complies with the requirements of Section 21 of
the Mines Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996 (as amended). The Vendor must
reply in writing confirming his compliance of this section.
1.4 For general procedures and definitions see Annexure A1 of this Specification.
2. SCOPE
2.1. General
2.1.1. This specification details the minimum requirements for the supply and delivery
of conveyor belting
2.1.2. The specification shall be applied for every invitation to tender or order to supply
new belting for capital projects and spares.
2.1.3. This specification shall be read in conjunction with the SANS Codes and
Standards specified within.
2.2. Work to be included
The work includes, but shall not be limited to the general items listed below.
2.2.1. Supply of conveyor belting as per attached conveyor schedule
2.2.2. Vendor’s hot vulcanized splicing procedure.
2.2.3. Vendor requirements and recommendations for storing spare belting on site.
2.2.4. Delivery costs to site.
2.2.5. Manufacturing programs (to be submitted with tender)
2.3. Work to be excluded
2.3.1. Offloading, storage on site and erection
3. DUTY DESCRIPTION
3.1. Design Data
3.1.1. The Conveyor Belting details shall be as specified on the attached Conveyor
Schedule.
3.2. Duty
3.2.1. In general the Equipment will operate 24 hours per day, 365 days per year with an
operating availability exceeding 95%.

3.3. Duty Description
The conveyor belting will be utilized to transport ore in the materials handling section of
the concentrator plant.

4.11. The quality of the rubber covers shall be suitable for the specified materials conveyed.
Either grade “N” or “M” covers in accordance with SANS 1173 and SANS 1366 are
acceptable
4.12. Textile reinforced belting up to and including 8 mm top cover thickness shall have a
corresponding minimum bottom cover thickness as stated in the following schedule:

4.13. Minimum top cover thickness for steelcord belting shall be 5 mm and minimum
bottom cover thickness shall be 3,2mm, except when the rip detection is required
where a minimum bottom cover thickness shall be 5 mm.
4.14. All belting requirements are shown on the appropriate conveyor schedule.

6. QA REQUIREMENT
6.1. General
6.1.1. QA requirements shall be in accordance with Annexure A2.
6.1.2. Data books to be issued before final invoice. Supply of documents and
information shall be in the format of Attachment 12.1.
6.1.3. The Inspection and Testing Authority, if needed, shall be approved by Anglo
Platinum.

10.2. Specifications
10.2.1. The following Specifications, standards and regulations, as amended, form part of
this Specification. In the event of conflict between this Specification and the
general Specification, this Specification shall govern unless otherwise determined
by The Engineer.

10.2.2. If any of the applicable Anglo Platinum Specifications, as amended, are not in the
Vendor’s possession, please obtain them from EPCM Contractor.
10.2.3. Unless specifically otherwise stated in tender documents to the contrary, it shall
be taken that Vendors fully understand and accept all requirements and
implications of this Specification and that it is agreed that this Specification will
form part of any contractual agreement between Anglo Platinum and the Vendor.

1. Codes of Precedence
1.1. All equipment and services shall comply with the mandatory requirements of:
1.1.1. Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996 and regulations (as amended).
1.1.2. Minerals Act 50 of 1991 and Regulations (as amended).
1.1.3. Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 (as amended).
1.1.4. Road Traffic Act, Act No. 29 of 1989 (as amended).
1.2. Any proposed deviation from this Specification and its requirements, which are modified
for application to specific items proposed by the Vendor/Contractor, shall be submitted to Anglo
Platinum for written approval.
1.3. If any doubt arises as to the meaning or effect of any part of this Specification or if
conflict occurs between this Specification and other information it shall be referred to the
Engineer for a ruling. The decision of the Engineer at Anglo Platinum shall be final.
1.4. In the event of any conflict between the various relevant documents, the order of
precedence shall be:
1.4.1. Technical:
1.4.1.1. This Specification.
1.4.1.2. The data sheets and/or drawings.
1.4.1.3. Other relevant documents.
1.4.2. Commercial:
1.4.2.1. The purchase order, including terms, conditions and legal requirements.
2. Definitions
2.1. The Supplier shall be known as the “Vendor or Contractor”.
2.2. The Purchaser shall be known as “Anglo Platinum”.
2.3. The “Anglo Platinum Representative” shall be the Project Manager or his appointed
representative.
2.4. “The Specification” shall mean this Specification and all the relevant Standards and
Codes forming part of this Specification.
2.5. “The Engineer” shall be the Project Manager or his appointed representative.
2.6. “Anglo Platinum” is Anglo American Platinum Corporation Limited.
2.7. “The Site Engineer” shall be the appointed Engineer on site.

TITLE: QA REQUIREMENTS
1. Quality Assurance
1.1. QA requirements shall be in accordance with the requirements of the Anglo Platinum
Specification AGS 029. The quality classification and QA documentation shall be as specified
on page 2 of this section.
1.2. Imported parts shall be fabricated to an approved international quality Specification.
2. Inspection and Testing
2.1. The Anglo Platinum Representative shall have access, at all reasonable times, to those
parts of the manufacturing facilities engaged in the manufacture of items in terms of this
Specification. He is authorised to witness any stage of manufacture, testing and to inspect
documentation.
2.2. The Anglo Platinum Representative is authorised to reject any items not manufactured to
the requirements of the Specification.
2.3. All equipment shall be inspected at the Vendor’s works prior to delivery, to ensure
compliance with the Specification.
2.4. No unit shall be considered complete until accepted by Anglo Platinum.
2.5. It shall be the responsibility of the manufacturer to establish examination procedures in
accordance with the requirements of the quality assurance procedure. All examinations to be
performed by qualified personnel.
2.6. The minimum testing shall be as specified in the Vendor QA and document requirement
list forming part of this section.

1.2. In the absence of any specific legislation, ordinance or by-law, the Vendor shall
implement the terms and conditions of the Anglo Platinum Specification ADC 027 -
“Environmental Guidelines for Contractors” which guidelines shall be deemed to be
specifically incorporated herein.
1.3. The Vendor shall report all environmental conditions and environmental information to
the responsible person as is required by law to be supplied, and furthermore undertakes
to keep all environmental conditions and environmental information obtained either by
the Vendor or by any person employed by the Vendor in connection with the project
confidential and shall not use or disclose any environmental conditions or environmental
information without written consent”.
