2 Preventive Maintenance
2.1 Overview
Note
Not all safety gears are currently described in this document.
• For GK Series see K 601191.
• For Thyssen Series see K 604218.
Caution
This instruction defines the minimal requirements per safety component. Recommended
maintenance activity intervals refer to the normal use of the elevator within normal
conditions. Intervals will be adapted by the maintenance company to the local requirements
(for example actual use, frequency of use, environmental aspects, national regulations,
etc.)

2.2 Preparation
Danger
After the car has been moved to the maintenance position, the installation power must be
turned off and locked out. The car must be unable to move.
Procedure
No Step
1 Put signs “Out of Service” in front of each landing door.
2 Make sure that during maintenance work the car is empty of persons or goods.
3 Switch on hoistway lights.
4 Check for any roll back or out of level conditions.
5 Record the number of trips from the trip counter in the installation record book.
6 Report any problems to the service department.

3 Guide Rail Check
Caution
For proper functioning of the safety gear, the guide rail surface must be completely free from
visible dirt and rust, and lightly oiled with HLP68.

2 Use a scraper (4) to remove large dirt build-up. Do not damage the guide rail

3 Use a brush (1) to apply the cleaning solvent to the guide rail surface (2).
The cleaning solvent used must be approved by the local Schindler office.
See NOK_5999405 for approved cleaning solvents.
4 Wait 1 ... 2 minutes to allow the solvent to dissolve the rust and dirt.
5 Wipe the guide rail surface (2) clean with a rag (3) or scrub sponge soaked in the
cleaning solvent.

7 Check the clearances between the guide rail (2), the braking surface of the
Running release wedge (1) and the roller (3) when the safety gear is in normal position.

8 Adjust the clearances if necessary. Loosen the fastening screws and equalize the
clearances on both sides of the guide rail.

Tightening of the 9 Tighten all four fastening screws with the following torques:

Clearance 4 Loosen the nuts (1) on both sides of the safety gear.
5 Equalize the running clearance on both sides with the adjustment screws (2).
6 Ensure that the adjustment is equalized and thereby the disc spring stack (3) can
be turned easily by hand.

Cage 1 Bend down the tab washer (2) of the fastening screws (1) of the roller cage
bracket (3).
2 Loosen the fastening screw(s) (1) slightly until the roller cage bracket (3) can be
turned.
3 Turn the roller cage bracket (3) by 90 degrees and remove the roller cage (4).
4 Clean the roller cage using a cloth and then lubricate with grease (Molykote).

9 Check the actuating mechanism for any damage and for loose spring pins.

13 Readjust the position of the governor lever stopper (10), if necessary, by adjusting
the length of the distance screws (9).
14 Fine adjustments to the position of the governor lever stopper (10) can be made
by loosening the stopper fastening screws (11), adjusting the governor lever
stopper (10), and retightening the screws (11).

21 Pull back the thrust levers (6).
22 Hold the brake wedges (5) and loosen their fixation screws (7).
When removing the fixation screw (7), the brake wedge will fall down if not
supported.
23 Slide out the brake wedges (5).
24 Check the brake pads for wear and damage.
25 Replace the brake pads if any of the following occurs:
• Diagonal cracks (B)
• Break-outs on sliding surface (C)

The ceramic brake pad and M5x16 hex screws must be replaced together. Use
Loctite 243 to secure the screws.

retaining springs have equal tension. If not, replace the roller cage.

35 Check the roller cage side of the brake wedges for damage.
36 Lubricate the roller cage side of the brake wedges with grease (Molykote).
Make sure the whole surface is coated.
37 Assemble sliding jaw (2), roller cage (3) and brake wedge (4).
38 Slide sliding jaw and brake wedge over the roller cage to distribute grease
(Molykote).
