1 Safety Advice

1.1 General

Safety All persons involved must know and follow all company and local safety regulations, with

• Make sure that there is enough light to work safely.
• Immediately replace damaged or lost safety equipment.
• Keep all tools in good condition.
• Follow instructions when using tools.

2 Preventive Maintenance

2.1 Overview

Note
Not all safety gears are currently described in this document.
• For GK Series see K 601191.
• For Thyssen Series see K 604218.

Caution
This instruction defines the minimal requirements per safety component. Recommended
maintenance activity intervals refer to the normal use of the elevator within normal
conditions. Intervals will be adapted by the maintenance company to the local requirements
(for example actual use, frequency of use, environmental aspects, national regulations,
etc.)

1) For a proper functioning of the safety gear the rail blade surface must be completely free from
visible dirt and rust and lightly oiled with HLP68
2) These checks must also be made after the engagement test and when the movable parts do
not move easily

2.2 Preparation

Danger
After the car has been moved to the maintenance position, the installation power must be
turned off and locked out. The car must be unable to move.

Procedure
No Step
1 Put signs “Out of Service” in front of each landing door.
2 Make sure that during maintenance work the car is empty of persons or goods.
3 Switch on hoistway lights.
4 Check for any roll back or out of level conditions.
5 Record the number of trips from the trip counter in the installation record book.
6 Report any problems to the service department.

3 Guide Rail Check

Caution
For proper functioning of the safety gear, the guide rail surface must be completely free from
visible dirt and rust, and lightly oiled with HLP68.

Check Guide Rail


No Step
1 Check the cleanness of the guide rail surface with a white cloth. The cloth must
be completely free from visible dirt. If not, the guide rails must be cleaned.

2 Use a scraper (4) to remove large dirt build-up. Do not damage the guide rail

Lubrication
3 Use a brush (1) to apply the cleaning solvent to the guide rail surface (2).
The cleaning solvent used must be approved by the local Schindler office.
See NOK_5999405 for approved cleaning solvents.
4 Wait 1 ... 2 minutes to allow the solvent to dissolve the rust and dirt.
5 Wipe the guide rail surface (2) clean with a rag (3) or scrub sponge soaked in the
cleaning solvent.

Guide Rail Cleaning

6 Remove all remaining cleaning solvent with clean dry rags.


7 Make sure that all guide shoe rollers are free from rust and dirt.
8 Apply HLP68 oil to the guide rail surface to prevent guide rail corrosion.

4 RF Series

4.1 General Checks

1 Check the general condition of the safety gear.
2 Clean the roller and the lower area of the roller cage.

4 Check and tighten bolts and screws if necessary.

the clearances on both sides of the guide rail.

Adjust SA RF 2
7 Check the clearances between the guide rail (2), the braking surface of the
Running release wedge (1) and the roller (3) when the safety gear is in normal position.

8 Adjust the clearances if necessary. Loosen the fastening screws and equalize the
clearances on both sides of the guide rail.

Tightening of the 9 Tighten all four fastening screws with the following torques:
Fastening Screws
• SA RF 1, tighten the M16 fastening screws to 215 Nm.
• SA RF 2, tighten the M20 fastening screws to 410 Nm.

Check the Safety 10 Trip the actuating mechanism by hand.

5.1 General Checks

Check Mobility No Step

Clearance 1 Push the safety gear downward and sideward (see arrows) and check the
horizontal and vertical mobility of the safety gear.
2 Check the correct running clearance (s1, s2) of 2 mm. If necessary adjust the gap
to 2 mm using the setting screw (1).

by moving the governor lever (4).
5 Check the safety switch (2) for damage and replace if necessary.
6 Check whether the reset unit (5) can hold the governor lever (4) in its initial
position.

6.1 * General Checks

Wedge Movement
and Symmetrical 1 Push the brake wedges (2) up to their highest position and check that they move

Caution
The disc spring stack (3) must remain turnable by hand after any adjustment.

Adjust Running
Clearance 4 Loosen the nuts (1) on both sides of the safety gear.
5 Equalize the running clearance on both sides with the adjustment screws (2).
6 Ensure that the adjustment is equalized and thereby the disc spring stack (3) can
be turned easily by hand.

bracket (3).
2 Loosen the fastening screw(s) (1) slightly until the roller cage bracket (3) can be
turned.
3 Turn the roller cage bracket (3) by 90 degrees and remove the roller cage (4).
4 Clean the roller cage using a cloth and then lubricate with grease (Molykote).

7.2 General Checks

Check Brake No Step


Wedge Movement
1 Push the brake wedges (2) up to their highest position and check that they move
easily. If they do not, complete the Extended Checks, including checking the
grease on the roller cage and sliding jaw.
2 Make sure that the brake wedges (2) are at the same height. If they are not, adjust
the running clearance.

5 Loosen the four fixation bolts (1) of the safety gear (2).
Clearance
6 Insert the mounting gauge (3) into the groove of the safety gear (2) and fasten with
a socket screw (4).
Make sure the mounting gauge matches the guide rail.

3 Mounting Gauge
4 M6x50 Hex Socket Screw
7 Press the safety gear (2) fully against the guide rails until the mounting gauge (3)
fits tightly and use a socket wrench to tighten the four bolts (1) of the
safety gear (2) in turns, step by step.
8 Remove the socket screw (4) and mounting gauge (3).
The mounting gauge must be easily removed. Otherwise realign the safety gear
and try again to remove the mounting gauge.

Check Actuating
9 Check the actuating mechanism for any damage and for loose spring pins.

10 Check the adjustment of the governor lever stopper (10) so that
the thrust levers (1) contact the bolt (3).

11 The edge of the roller cage (5) must be parallel to the guide rail.
12 Check that the tip of the thrust lever (1) is visible through the hole in the brake

13 Readjust the position of the governor lever stopper (10), if necessary, by adjusting
the length of the distance screws (9).
14 Fine adjustments to the position of the governor lever stopper (10) can be made
by loosening the stopper fastening screws (11), adjusting the governor lever
stopper (10), and retightening the screws (11).

The bolt and split pin must not have any cracks or fragments.

18 Check the safety contact adjustment. Make sure there is no space between the

21 Pull back the thrust levers (6).
22 Hold the brake wedges (5) and loosen their fixation screws (7).
When removing the fixation screw (7), the brake wedge will fall down if not
supported.
23 Slide out the brake wedges (5).
24 Check the brake pads for wear and damage.
25 Replace the brake pads if any of the following occurs:
• Diagonal cracks (B)
• Break-outs on sliding surface (C)
• Cracks through brake pad (D)

28 Use a screwdriver (2) to push on the needle flat cage. Make sure both cage
retaining springs have equal tension. If not, replace the roller cage.

33 Use a cloth to clean the sliding jaws and then lubricate with grease (Molykote).
34 Use a cloth to clean the roller cage side of the brake wedges (4).
35 Check the roller cage side of the brake wedges for damage.
36 Lubricate the roller cage side of the brake wedges with grease (Molykote).
Make sure the whole surface is coated.
37 Assemble sliding jaw (2), roller cage (3) and brake wedge (4).
38 Slide sliding jaw and brake wedge over the roller cage to distribute grease
(Molykote).

Caution

Assemble SGC02 39 Insert sliding jaws.


40 Insert roller cages (3) and brake wedges (1). Secure each brake wedge with the
brake fixation screw (2).
Make sure that the screw (2) is at the bottom of the roller cage mechanical
stop (3).
