-Why is OHS important?

1. LO 1. Importance of Occupational Health and Safety Procedures 1.1 recognize the

importance of OSH

The OSH (Occupational Health and Safety Procedures) focuses on protecting employees in the
workplace from accidents, injuries, and exposure to harmful substances.
An OSH gives benefits like:
 Reduced risk or accidents or injuries by identifying hazards
 Improved efficiency and productivity due to fewer employees missing work from illness
or injury
 Reduced costs associated with accidents or injuries (healthcare and rehabilitation costs,
losses in productivity, impact on employees’ well-being)

Many injuries may come upon the body, mentally or physically. By establishing an OSH, you are
reducing the risk of injuries.

-Cooking Club Measurements-

2. LO 1. Carry out measurements and calculations in a required task 1.1 give the
abbreviations and equivalents of measurements

Let’s say you are a part of a Cooking Club. The teacher, let’s call her Pat, gave out the recipes
for your first Cooking Club lesson. Here it is:

Now, most of the measurements here are abbreviated, let me help you with that.
 Pcs; basically means pieces
 ¾ cup; Could be twelve tablespoons or three cups of water (small cups would do)
 Tsp; teaspoon
 Tbsp; tablespoon
 ¼ tsp (teaspoon); you can take a pinch of salt. In my opinion, it is easier.
You are now ready for your Cooking Club! Have fun!

-A manicure at home-

3. LO 1. Prepare the necessary tools and equipment for the specific nail care activity 1.1
Identify the uses of tools and equipment in nail care according to task requirements
Before we start, why even do a manicure? Your nails are exposed to a lot of dirt, making them
vulnerable to damage. Washing your hands won’t be enough. Here are some benefits:
 Manicures help keep your nails clean and tidy, which prevents fungal infections.-
 Grooming your nails prevents them from breaking or painful chipping. -
 The massage done during manicures helps boost blood circulation, which prevents the
development of wrinkles on your hands.

The basic tools

1. Nail Cutter

As the name suggests, you trim or cut your nails to prevent bacteria.

Make sure to clean the cutter before using. It’s best to trim after a shower, for the nails are softer
and easier to cut.

2. Nail Buffer
The main purpose of the buffer is to make your nails ✨shine✨. It also helps to remove any dry
ridges or peeling on your nails by smoothing them out.

Make sure your nails have been soaked and cleaned before using. Ensure your nails are dry and
always buff in one direction. You can go either forward or backward. buff too much as this may
cause thinning of nails. Once a month will help you preserve the shine of your nails.

3. Nail File

The file is like the nail buffer. It helps grind down the edges of the nail, smoothen the nail, and
shape the nail.

Before beginning, make sure the nails are dry (for it is easier to file when dry). Hold the file at a
45-degree angle, parallel to the sides of your nails. Start at one corner and move to the center of
your nail. Apply less pressure and file the nails in only one direction for a smooth finish.

-Precaution-

4. LO 2. Perform basic preventive and corrective maintenance 1.2 Inspected defective tools
and equipment

Now before purchasing the tools above, make sure it doesn’t have damage. What do I mean
about damage?
 If the casing of the product is damaged, I don’t recommend purchasing it. Sometimes, the
product itself is in good condition. Sometimes.
 If there’s scratches on the product, it could mean it has been used a bunch of times.
 If the product has rust, don’t purchase it. It may lead to infection when you use it long-
term.

There are many more dangers but here are some to be aware of. Stay safe and have fun!
