1 INTRODUCTION
This document discusses the functions of the “Nadisystem” controller used with i-BX and i-BX-N air/water units. The functions discussed only relate
to machine management issues (including the management of domestic hot water (DHW)).

Interfacing with i-BX and i-BX-N units will be guaranteed by the pLDPRO machine terminal, through which user, installer, service and manufacturer
will be able to access machine management and setup parameters (therefore, there will be 4 different password-protected access levels).

i-BX and i-BX-N units will be able to regulate the production of system water in a “traditional” manner, which means on the basis of a fixed setpoint
that can be set by the user, or in an “advanced” manner, based on a setpoint calculated through the offset functions, both cold and hot (for the details
see the specific function descriptions). The machine external air temperature probe will be used for offset management.

The type of regulation will be possible by setting specific parameters.

INFORMATION:
i-BX indicates the chiller only unit
i-BX-N indicates the reversible heat pump unit.
i-BX(-N) indicates both units, when discussing the machine functions.

1.1 OPERATING REQUIREMENTS

The application software discussed in this document is designed for use on i-BX-N reversible heat pump units and i-BX chiller units.

The software was designed for use on the following control systems:
uPC – Medium control board with pLDPRO graphic interface user terminal.

1.2 GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Below is a non-exhaustive list of the functions of the application:

• Regulation of the room temperature according to the setpoints entered using the user terminal.
• Complete visualisation of the operating status of the unit.
• Possibility of setting the regulation parameters, both the basic ones with the “User” password and the more advanced ones with the
“Installation”, “Service” and “Factory” passwords.
• Possibility of configuring the unit.
• Management and acoustic and visual signalling (visual only by default) of faults (alarms), events and maintenance, with memorisation up to
100 events.

2.3 AMBIENT THERMOSTAT

The interface that can be used with zone control (accessory) is an N-THC graphic display.
The N-THC interface is used for zone control and is specific for i-BX-N units. The N-THC thermostat for i-BX-N units requires 230 Volt power supply.
By connecting two N-THC in series to connector 4 (see chapter HARDWARE) of the controller and using the Modbus protocol it is possible to control
2 zones (1 high temperature and 1 low temperature zone). Control of each individual system zone will be possible through this interface.

4 FUNCTION DESCRIPTION
4.1 MACHINE MANAGEMENT – OPERATING MODES -
Parameter 130Z (reversible units) indicates if the unit is an i-BX (chiller only) or i-BX-N (heat pump) unit.

The i-BX unit is defined through the following parameters:

130Z = NO (non-reversible unit)

130X = CHILLER

The i-BX-N unit is defined through the following parameters:

130Z = YES (reversible unit)

130X parameter non visible

In case of i-BX-N units, use parameter 0202 to enable DHW (default value = 0).
Parameter 0202 is only available for i-BX-N units.

With i-BX-N units with DHW enabled it is possible to set the system / DHW priority using parameter 0014 (default value = DHW).

It will be possible to set the machine operating modes using the menu or the digital input (the operating mode type selection is possible using
parameter 0100: “BY KEYBOARD” or “BY DIGITAL INPUT”).

4.2 SETPOINT REGULATORS

i-BX-N units will be able to regulate system water production in a “traditional” manner - which means on the basis of a fixed setpoint that can be set
by the user -, or in an “advanced” manner - based on a dynamic setpoint calculated through climatic curve managed functions -, both as far as cold
and hot, as described below.
By setting parameter 011D Ambient influence on unit regulation= “PRESENT”, it will be possible to drive the unit to adjust based on the water
temperature, only in case of ambient hot/cold request-, on the basis of the ambient setpoint set on the N-THC, by at least one of the zones configured
in a system (with the ambient setpoint met, the machine pump will switch off both if set to sniffer and continuous operation).
If all the zone setpoints are met, the unit will not switch the compressor on, even with the water temperature far from the setpoint and outside the
regulation hysteresis. In this case, the compressors will only come back on when a hot/cold request is coming from at least one of the system zones.
By setting the parameter 011D Ambient influence on unit regulation= “NONE” (default value), the unit will adjust in the traditional manner only on the
water temperature, therefore without being affected by the room temperature.

If zone control is disabled, meaning 016A = “No”, parameter 011D is forced to “NONE” and cannot be changed.

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table

4.2.1 HOT OFFSET

When the system is set to heating, the delivery water temperature is calculated based on the climate curves defined following the function described
in the following chart. The x-axis shows the external temperature, the y-axis the delivery water temperature.
This function can be enabled or disabled using parameter 0152.

Climate curve selection

Delivery setpoint with ambient 20°C

Delivery setpoint °C

External temp. in °C

The diagram in the figure shows the trend of the climatic curves relating the required heating setpoint for the water delivered to the systems to the
external temperature values (calculated external temperature average).

The curve, selected based on the characteristics of the building and the ambient heating system, can be changed by adding or subtracting a value
(Offset) that “moves” it vertically; it may also be rotated, by adding or subtracting a value to 20°C of external temperature (Offset at 20°C) that “rotates”
the curve around an ideal axis on the -20°C external temperature point, therefore correcting an undesired behaviour at the milder external
temperatures (see following diagrams).
In addition to the system curve, which determines the value of the general temperature of the water delivered to the users, there is a specific climate
curve for each low temperature zone, which determines the value of the delivery temperature for the water of the mixed circuit.
The system and zone curves work in cascade. Therefore, the climate curve of the mixed zone cannot request a value higher than that supplied by
the system curve.

Ambient offset

Ref. curve 1.0

DeliverySet offset °C

DT(Tamb-setP)°C

The delivery setpoint may be compensated by the offset between the desired setpoint and the temperature of an ambient used as reference.
The correction through the compensation may be “measured” based on an “ambient authority” coefficient (parameter 0164) that establishes the extent
of the correction.

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table

4.2.2 COLD OFFSET

Cold offset occurs when with a system set to cooling the delivery water temperature is calculated based on the values defined by the following chart.
The x-axis shows the external temperature, the y-axis the delivery water temperature.
This function can be enabled or disabled using parameter 0154.

4.3 ANTI-CONDENSATION FUNCTION

The management of this function requires the zone N-THC thermostat.

When the system is set to cooling, excessive ambient humidity may cause the formation of condensation.
This can be counteracted by increasing the delivery water temperature proportionally with the humidity increase detected in the environment (see the
following chart).
The function is enabled using the parameter (0156 for the system, 0171 for the mixed zone), if the system cooling climate curve (0154) is enabled.
If the relative humidity, measured by the ambient thermostat, exceeds the value set at parameter 0157 (for the low zone: 0172) the water setpoint
increases until it reaches the maximum temperature. The maximum water temperature is the result of the sum of the setpoint calculated according
the cooling climate curve and the value set in parameter 0158 (for the low zone: 0173).

Using the parameter it is possible to configure a digital output as dehumidifier control. The “external” dehumidifier is activated if the humidity detected
by the zone thermostat probe exceeds the value set in parameter 0172.

4.4 COMPRESSOR REGULATION

The inverter compressor adjusts based on a P+I algorithm (type of regulation that can be selected using parameters 0506, 0509 and 0512 for
independent cool, heat and DHW regulation respectively), as a function of the temperature value read by the system exchanger output probe
(analogue input B2) (parameter 0637 “Type regulation plant=OUTLET”), or by the DHW storage tank probe (analogue input B3 reading), during the
production of system water in the first case, and DHW in the second.
The compressor safety times set with the parameter must be observed.
The working point of the compressor (suction pressure based on the delivery pressure) will be controlled constantly to prevent operation outside the
envelope.

INFORMATION:
when regulating the Nadisystem controller, the Td=0 constant of the PID cannot be changed using the parameter. Therefore,
only P or P+I regulations are possible (for the description of the PID regulation see the attached)

By accessing the system with the Service password, it is possible to view the main masks of the menu of the pldPro interface on board of the unit,
with information on the status of the compressor, the DHW and the system regulator value

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table

4.4.1 BLDC COMPRESSOR START-UP PROCEDURE

i-BX and i-BX-N units use BLDC inverter compressors and POWER+ CAREL PSD1 or PSD2 drivers.

At start-up, the compressor is brought to rotation at the start-up speed (start-up speed as indicated by parameter 138G). This speed is maintained
irrespective of the regulation request for the whole duration of the minimum start-up time (parameter 1351). At the end of this period, the
compressor speed/modulation is automatically adjusted based on the request and consistently with the control conditions of the work point in the
envelope (see the Prevent actions paragraph).

4.4.2 INVERTER COMPRESSOR OIL RECOVERY FUNCTION

Thanks to parameter 134A = “enable oil recovery”, it is possible to enable a function that allows to recover the compressor oil from the cooling circuit.
In view of parameters:
134B minimum compressor forcing threshold request
134C minimum compressor forcing speed
134D time of permanence before activating the oil function
134E compressor forcing speed
134F compressor forcing time

with 134B = 100%, if the compressor speed is less than parameter 134C for a period of time set in 134D, the compressor is forced at the speed set
by parameter 134E for the time in 134F.
With parameter 134B < 100% the active request will also be controlled based on the active setpoint.

Note: if during the forcing of the compressor for oil recovery the regulation setpoint set in heat, cool or DHW is reached, the compressor is kept on
until the expiry of 134F, or, if cold water is being produced, until the temperature of the water produced reaches the value of 0634 “antifreeze alarm
setpoint” + 0638 “antifreeze differential for oil recovery”

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table

4.4.3 COMPRESSOR OPERATING LIMIT PROTECTION

There is a control of the compressor operating limits (hereinafter envelope). In order to prevent the compressor from working outside the safety limits
set by the manufacturer, this control cannot be disabled. Therefore, all unit compressors include the envelope data.

Below are the working zones of a generic envelope:

Zone Description

exceeded) 3

4 Max motor current 9
6
5 Max evaporation pressure
7
6 Min compression ratio
7 Min differential pressure 8

8 Min condensation pressure Evaporation

9 Min evaporation pressure temperature [°C]

The threshold of custom zone 3 is defined by parameter 131I.

When the work point moves outside the envelope, alarm delay count starts: if the work point remains outside the envelope, when the delay time
expires the specific alarm activates, shutting down the compressor. If on the other hand the work point moves back within the limits of the envelope,
the alarm delay count resets itself.

The high condensation pressure limit is determined by the minimum between:

• the compressor nominal threshold;
• the threshold that may be modified by Service (131l).

The high evaporation pressure limit is determined by the minimum between:

• the compressor nominal threshold;
• the set MOP threshold.

The suction and discharge pressures define a work point. Depending on the control zone, corrective actions take place to keep or return the
compressor within the operating limits and therefore prevent compressor alarms.

temperature [°C]

In order to allow the compressor to operate within the envelope, specific preventive actions are performed which affect the power of the circuit, the
setpoint of the source fans and the opening of the ExV.
In specific, the actions affecting the circuit power are:
· Decreasing the increase/decrease speed of the power request from heat adjustment during the approach to the envelope limit (BLDC
compressors only).
· Limiting/increasing the circuit power.
The action on the ExV valve is exercised by changing the MOP threshold (maximum evaporation temperature): the algorithm follows the setpoint,
decreasing the opening of the valve, and reducing the maximum refrigerant flow rate, therefore decreasing the evaporation temperature value. This
action is performed both with BLDC compressors and fixed speed compressors.
The actions for the control of the power variation speed start when the duty point is at a preset distance from the operating limits of the compressor.

MEHITS S.p.A. ● TECHNICAL MANUAL 36 Version NC05 - Translation of the Original Instructions
TM_i-BX(-N)_NC05_00_06_20_EN
Below are the various preventive actions relating to the operating limits; action 1 refers to the control action (before leaving the envelope); action 2 is
the limit action (operating point outside the envelope).

CAUTION:
DO NOT CHANGE THESE PARAMETERS.
THESE ARE MACHINE CONSTRUCTION PARAMETERS.

4.4.3.1 High compression ratio prevention (zone 2)

The high compression ratio is a compressor thermal limit: to ensure the control of the discharge temperature, a specific algorithm first slows down
the power increase, and stops it when it reaches the control setpoint (5°C below the maximum limit); if the temperature increases further, the
control algorithm gradually and slowly manages the power reduction, imitating the thermal inertia behaviour of the compressor, and finally shuts
down the compressor. The algorithm management parameters are 138V, 138W, 138X, 138Y.

4.7 MAXIMUM COMPRESSOR SPEED AS A FUNCTION OF THE EXTERNAL TEMPERATURE

The maximum compressor speed can be set differently based on the external air temperature, within 2 limits that can be set using parameters 133X
“Ext.temperature high threshold:” and 133Y “Ext.temperature low threshold:”, as follows:
- if External air T < 133Y, maximum speed = par. 133W “Max speed inverter custom 2:”
- if 133Y <External air T < 133X, maximum speed = par. 1368 “Max speed inverter:”
- if External air T> 133Y, maximum speed = par. 133V “Max speed inverter custom:”

Note: for parameter 133Y, the hysteresis is 0.5°C fixed right; for parameter 133X the hysteresis is 0.5°C fixed left.

4.8 ELECTRONIC EXPANSION VALVE

The electronic expansion valve is driven based on the PID algorithm, the proportional, integral and derivative values of which are set using the
parameter.
4.8.1 VALVE PRE-OPENING

Using parameter 136T it is possible to set the type of valve pre-opening before the start of the compressor.
With 136T = YES, valve pre-opening is equal to the number of steps defined by parameter 1360 (no relation with the requested capacity).
136K defines the pre-opening time.
Other parameters: 1386 pre-opening in chiller
136U pre-opening in heat pump

With 136T = NO valve pre-opening is based on the requested capacity.

On i-BX-N units always set 136T = YES

4.8.2 EQUALIZATIONS AT START-UP

Parameter 131K is used to set the type of valve pre-opening before the start of the compressor in compressor startup conditions with pressure
difference defined by parameter 1358 not being met.
With 131K = YES, the valve pre-opening is equal to the number of steps defined by parameter 131Q (no relation with the requested capacity).

On i-BX-N units always set 131K = YES

Other parameters: 1359 maximum equalization time

4.8.3 PRESSURE EQUALIZATIONS AT COMPRESSOR SHUTDOWN

In order to guarantee pressure equalization, at compressor shutdown the valve will open to the set number of steps (equal to parameter 1362 “Steps
valve open eq.”), and will maintain this opening level for the time set in parameter 1361 (“time equalization EEV”). At the lapsing of this time, the valve
will switch to the set stand-by position.
Also this function is managed by parameter 131K = YES.

On i-BX-N units always set 131K = YES

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table

4.9.3 ACTIVATION OF THE PRESSURE SAFETY CONTROL

With condensation fan speed regulation based on the external temperature and any regulation speed (SUPERMINIMUM, MINIMUM, HIGH), when
the condensation pressure exceeds the value given by parameter 1434 the fan automatically switches to the next higher speed step.

As soon as the pressure value falls below the value represented by the difference between the values of parameters 1434 – 1435, the fan returns to
the step of the corresponding external temperature.

Example of pressure safety control:

if based on the external temperature the fan operates at MINIMUM speed, causing the pressure to rise above safety parameter 1434, the fan then
switches to the next higher fan speed (in this case HIGH).
The fan will keep this speed until the pressure falls back below the pressure value given by the difference between parameters 1434 - 1435
At this point, the fan will return to the MINIMUM speed value.

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table

4.10 UNIT PUMP MANAGEMENT

4.10.1 GENERAL

Using the parameter it will be possible to set the desired mode of operation for the system pump, such as continuous operation or sniffer - parameter
0143 “Plant function mode”.

4.10.2 PUMP IN CONTINUOUS OPERATION

If continuous operation mode is selected - parameter 0143 = ALWAYS ON -, when the machine is set to “Cool” or “Heat” (meaning not OFF), the
system pump will always be on (at the working speed defined by the selected curve).
When the unit is set to OFF, the pump will be off and will only switch on at the conditions described by the “Antifreeze protection” function.

4.10.3 PUMP IN SNIFFER MODE

In order to reduce energy consumption to the minimum, it will be possible to configure the switching on of the system pump following the temperature
regulator demand (meaning continuous on when the compressor is active), by setting parameter 0143 = SNIFFERS. In order to allow the correct
regulation, “sniffers” ” will be managed: the pump will be activated at regular intervals for the time set using parameter 0147 “Time on sniffer plant”. 5
seconds before the expiry of this time, if the water temperature read by the regulation probe (B2) shows a value such to request the switching on of
the compressor, this is switched on and the pump also stays on. When the compressor shuts down, the pump continues to operate for the time set
using parameter 131J “Plant pump Off delay from compres. .Off”, after which it will stop and return to sniffer mode.
Sniffer activity intervals can be set using parameter 0148 “Time off sniffer plnt”. See the function described below:

4.11 ELECTRIC HEATER AT THE DELIVERY

The purpose of the delivery electric heater is to assist in the production of hot water produced using the heat pump (compressor), when this is not
able to meet the heat demand as a result of an inhibition (operation in replacement mode; in this case it will come on instead of the compressor), or
when the heat load exceeds the power that can be produced by the machine (operation in integration mode; in this case it will come on at the same
time as the compressor).

Using the parameter, activation will be possible for antifreeze purposes and during the defrost cycle: see paragraphs “6.11.3 Antifreeze heater” “6.11.4
Defrost heater”

4.11.1 REPLACEMENT HEATER

OBLIGATION:
For the function to be performed correctly, probe BT9 must be connected. For the correct positioning refer to the use /
installation manual

By setting the parameter 010G= REPLACE HP, the heater is activated in system heating or DHW (the latter only if there is no configured DHW
storage tank dedicated heater), replacing the compressor if this unable to meet a setpoint due to inhibition for the following reasons:
• transducer or pressure switch high pressure intervention
• transducer or pressure switch low pressure intervention
• operation outside envelope
• external air temperature higher or lower than the operating limits set by parameters 0311 (set by the installer) or 133Z (machine operation
absolute lower limit) and 0515
• maximum water temperature based on the external air temperature, as defined by parameters 133E, 133F, 133G, 133H
• LOP, MOP and EEV low overheating alarms
• probe fault (with the exception of regulation probes).

The regulation of the heater for the production of system water will follow the same regulation algorithm of the compressor in heating operation. The
heater will be activated immediately, ignoring any delay set in parameter 0616.
For DHW production see paragraph “7.2.3 HP + DHW storage heater (P0202=3) or delivery heater“
The previously described replacement is automatic. However, manual replacement is also possible by setting parameter 0620 = MANUAL; in this
case, the water will only be heated using the heater, inhibiting compressor operation. This mode is normally used in case of compressor fault.
The switching on of the heater will be as follows:

Delivery heater
(step 1 and 2)

Regulation hysteresis
ON

OFF
Water temperature Water T BT9 [°C]
setpoint

When configured as replacement, the heater switches on based on the water temperature, irrespective of the external air temperature: Therefore,
parameter 0303, switching on based on the external air temperature, will be ignored.
In case of intervention of the primary system flow switch (DI2) after the “flow switch alarm” delay, 1403, the heater is disabled.
The heater operation is inhibited if the “Demand limit” (DI8) contact is active (see the “DEMAND LIMIT” paragraph).

4.11.2 INTEGRATION HEATER

By setting parameter 010G= INTEGRATE HP, the heater is activated in system heating or DHW (the latter only if there is no dedicated DHW storage
tank heater configured), to assist the operation of the compressor.
If the enable based on the external air temperature is set to 0303 = NO, the heaters will always be activated in case of insufficient heat, irrespective
of the external air temperature.

If the enable based on the external air temperature is set to 0303 = YES, the heater will be enabled based on the following criteria:

In integration mode, the heater works as follows:

it switches off when the system reaches the “regulation setpoint”, given by the value set in parameter 0153, if the unit is set to fixed setpoint regulation,
or by the value determined by the compensation curves, if this type of regulation is enabled (for the details see the Hot offset paragraph) on the
inertial storage tank temperature probe B7 (only B7, and not the probe measuring the temperature of the system exchange output water - B2).

The heater will switch on again following the criteria described in the following cases:
when B7 ≤ “regulation setpoint” – 0507 x 0309, if B2 has never reached a value equal to the “regulation setpoint”, without counting the possible time
delay 0616 (the delay refers to probe B2 and starts as soon as the same falls below the “regulation setpoint – 0507” irrespective of the value of B7).
when B7 ≤ “regulation setpoint” – 0507 x 0309 and B2 ≤ “regulation setpoint” – 0507, counting the possible time delay, if also B2 has reached a value
equal to the “regulation setpoint.
If there is no storage tank, it will however be necessary to set parameter 0314 = YES in order to enable probe B7 (BT9), which will be positioned on
the system delivery.

The calculation of the integral time only starts after the time set in the “Heater switching on inhibition time” has elapsed (if other than 0);
the function of the above is to inhibit the switching on of the heater in integration mode, to allow time for the heat pump to warm up (for example, in
the case of start-up with cold water in the plant).
If the integral time for the switching on of the heater is 0617 = 0, step regulation will take place on the regulation setpoint and on the hysteresis value
0507 x 0309.
In case of inhibition of the heat pump, the heaters will operate to replace it: see the “Replacement heater” paragraph.
For DHW production see the “HP + DHW storage heater (P0202=3) or delivery heater“ paragraph.
In case of activation of the primary system flow switch, after the “flow switch alarm delay”, 1403, the heater is disabled.
The heater operation is inhibited if the “Demand limit” (DI8) contact is active (see the “DEMAND LIMIT” paragraph).
Parameter 0304 is modified independently from parameter 0311.

MEHITS S.p.A. ● TECHNICAL MANUAL 45 Version NC05 - Translation of the Original Instructions
TM_i-BX(-N)_NC05_00_06_20_EN
4.11.3 ANTIFREEZE HEATER

With antifreeze enable parameter 0310 = ON, the heater will switch on following the criteria described in the “Exchanger antifreezee” paragraph.
The heater is inhibited if the “Demand limit” contact is active (see the “DEMAND LIMIT” paragraph)

4.11.4 DEFROST HEATER

With defrost enable parameter 0302 = ON, during the defrost cycle the heater switches on following the heat setpoint and adjusting as described in
the “Integration heater” paragraph.

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table

4.12 ALTERNATIVE HEAT SOURCE (BOILER)

The alternative heat source behaves in the same way as the delivery heater, with the exception that the heating mode (MANUAL or AUTO) cannot
be selected. For the details see the “4.11 ELECTRIC HEATER AT THE DELIVERY” paragraph. For this function there are dedicated regulation
parameters.

4.12.1 REPLACEMENT HEAT SOURCE

Refer to paragraph “6.11.1 Replacement heater”, replacing the heater parameters as follows:
010G → 010H
0303 → 0306
The boiler hysteresis is also managed through parameter 0316.

By introducing parameter 0316, boiler regulation is ON-OFF, without delays or integrals:

the boiler is switched off with B7 >= 0153 (or the climate control calculated setpoint)
the boiler is switched on with B7 <= 0153 (or the climate control calculated setpoint) - 0316.
Always taking into account the enabling on the basis of the external air temperature.

Differently from the heater situation, with the boiler as alternative source, in case of triggering of the system primary flow switch the boiler is not
disabled.

With the heat source active, the unit pump stays off.
When the “Boiler Backup” contact is activated and the heat source is on as replacement based on the external air limit defined by parameter 0311,
the heat pump restarts.
If the heat pump is on as replacement based on the external air limit defined by parameter 133Z, the heat pump cannot restart as it is inhibited due
to the external air absolute limit.

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table

MEHITS S.p.A. ● TECHNICAL MANUAL 46 Version NC05 - Translation of the Original Instructions
TM_i-BX(-N)_NC05_00_06_20_EN
4.12.2 INTEGRATION HEAT SOURCE

Refer to the “Integration heater” paragraph, replacing the heater parameters as follows:
010G → 010H
0303 → 0306
0304 → 0307
0305 → 0308
0616 → 0618
0617 → 0619

Exceptions:
a) the regulation hysteresis only consists of the value set in parameter 0507 (parameter 0309 is not considered);
b) the alternative heat source is never used for the DHW load.

As for “Integration heater”, also for the alternative heat source the calculation of the integral time only starts after the time set in the “Boiler switching
on inhibition time” parameter has elapsed (if other than 0); the function of this last parameter is to inhibit the switching on of the alternative heat source
in integration mode, in order to give time to the heat pump to reach normal operation regime (for example in case of switching on when the system
water is cold).

As for “Integration heater”, also for the alternative heat source, if the integral time of the switching on of the heater is 0619 = 0, step regulation takes
place on the regulation setpoint and on the hysteresis value 0507.
As for “Integration heater”, in case of inhibition of the heat pump the alternative heat source will work as a backup.
With the heat source active, the unit pump stays off.

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table.

4.13 ANTIFREEZE PROTECTION

It will be possible to activate different types of antifreeze protections, the regulation of which may occur on the basis of the water or air temperature:
- exchanger antifreeze;
- system primary circuit antifreeze;
- system secondary circuit antifreeze;
- room antifreeze;
- DHW storage tank antifreeze;

The individual functions are described below.

4.13.1 EXCHANGER ANTIFREEZEE

Protection is related to the value read by probe B2 (system exchanger water output)
The involved resources are the system exchanger antifreeze heater - NO3 - and the primary system pump (Machine) - NO5 -
The purpose of this function is to protect the machine exchanger from the formation of ice by activating the protection heater and the pump, if off,
when the water temperature falls to a certain value, which can be set through parameter 0622.
It will be possible to set an antifreeze alarm: this alarm will activate following the same criteria as the heater, but with a dedicated parameter (0634).
Heaters are activated based on the function described below:

4.13.2 SYSTEM PRIMARY CIRCUIT ANTIFREEZE

Protection is related to the value read by probe B4 (external air temperature (Machine))
The interested resource is the system primary pump (Machine) - NO5 -

This function can be enabled by setting parameter 0149 = YES and has the purpose of protecting the piping from the unit to the system primary circuit
from ice. It does so by activating the system primary circuit pump when the temperature of the air read by the machine air probe (B4) falls to a certain
value that can be set using parameter 0141, based on the following function.

The sniffer parameters are 0150 “Time on sniffer antifreeze” and 0151 “Time off sniffer antifreeze”; for the sniffer function details refer to the “Pump
in sniffer mode” section
If during the sniffer activity the detected water temperature is such to enable the antifreeze function described in the “Exchanger antifreeze”
paragraph, this function will take priority.

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table

4.13.3 SYSTEM SECONDARY CIRCUIT ANTIFREEZE

Protection is related to the value read by probe B4 (external air temperature (Machine))
The involved resources are pumps HT1 (high temperature zone) and LT1 (low temperature zone)

If enabled, the pumps of the secondary will activate together with those of the primary system circuit, following the criteria described in in the “

4.13.4 ROOM TEMPERATURE ANTIFREEZE (ONLY WITH ZONES ACTIVE)

Protection is related to the value read by the room air temperature probe N-THC.
The involved resources are the compressor (J10) and the delivery heater (NO8)

The purpose of this function is to protect the internal ambient from excessive cold. When active, it uses the available resources as configured for
normal system heating (HP, delivery heater, alternative heat source), based on the function described below:

4.13.5 DHW STORAGE TANK ANTIFREEZE

Protection is related to the value read by the DHW storage tank temperature probe (B3)
The involved resource is the DHW storage tank heater (NO10).

This function can be enabled by setting parameter 0228 = YES, and has the purpose of protecting the DHW storage tank from the formation of ice,
by activating the corresponding immersion heater when the water temperature falls to a certain value, which can be set using parameter 0229.

The heater is activated based on the function described below:

4.14 DEFROST
The defrost function can be enabled using the Manufacturer Menu (Mnu13), while the set defrost start and end parameters, time scales, etc., can be
found in the Assistance Menu (Mnu08).
The defrost type may be selected through parameter 132R.
The “PRESSURE” type defrost follows the logic of the chart below:

Note: In case of “PRESSURE 2” type defrost, the compressor deceleration before the time given by parameter 134G is defined by parameter 138L.

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table

Using parameter 0802 it is possible to enable the defrost condition as a function of the external temperature, with a corresponding setpoint (0810),
below which defrost may take place.
If for any reason the defrost end setpoint (0801) is not reached, the cycle ends due to the maximum set time being exceeded (0804) (counting of the
maximum time takes place in conjunction with the restarting of the compressor). If the conditions persist after the defrost procedure, another one will
start after the delay between two defrost operations (0805).
When the unit is switched OFF, the interval between one defrost procedure and the next (0805) is reset. Therefore, in this case two defrost operations
at close intervals would also be possible, if switching on took place immediately and the pressure were below the defrost start threshold.
In i-BX(-N) units dynamic defrost (0815) is enabled. Therefore, the defrost start threshold will change dynamically depending on the external air
temperature: when the air temperature read by the external probe (B4) falls below the threshold set by parameter 0816 “Differential activation T
threshold”, the defrost start pressure defined by parameter 0808 is reduced by the value set in parameter 0817 “Defrost input differential”, according
to the proportional band set in parameter 0818 “Defrost input proportional band”.

Moreover, it is also possible to enable the forcing of the defrost cycle time (parameter 0821). The enabling of this function will trigger a count after
the first defrost cycle. After the elapse of a time equal to parameter 0822 (found in Mnu08), if no defrost cycles following the already set logics have
been initiated, a forced defrost cycle will be initiated.
The activation of a “natural” defrost cycle will stop the count, which will be reset and reinstated as soon as the “natural” cycle is completed.

Depending on the operating mode set, the defrost cycle will if necessary be performed in accordance with the rules below

the return towards DHW will take place after the compressor stop)

4.15.3 EXTERNAL AIR TEMPERATURE AND WATER TEMPERATURE

The heat pump is inhibited (compressor startup inhibition) when the water temperature reaches the maximum value set through parameter 0636
near the air temperature set using parameter 133E. This value will change dynamically (according to the band set with parameter 133H),
decreasing in proportion to the decrease of the external air temperature (differential set with parameter 133F), in accordance with the function
described below.
In order to allow a limitation of the air temperature produced even at high temperatures, similarly to what just described, it will also be possible to
set parameters “133R, “133S” and “133T” in accordance with the function described below:
The probe is configured using parameter P132Z.

4.16 DEMAND LIMIT

This function can be activated using the DI8 digital input when parameter 019C = DEMAND LIMIT. Its purpose is to inhibit the operation of the heat
pump and the delivery heaters (if present), due to them being electric loads. This is to avoid electric line overload, for example if the switching on of
other loads with higher priority than the heat pump is required.
Only the boiler stays on, if present, to meet the needs of the system, and the DHW heater in case of DHW request.

With the contact active, only the antifreeze protections will be active, and therefore the heaters and pumps of the corresponding exchangers.

If the contact is activated during defrost, the heat pump will only be stopped when defrost has been completed.

In case of activation of the demand limit, if there is a DHW request the corresponding immersion heater switches on, if configured.
When the demand limit stops, if TDHW<0022 or 0023, the heater switches off; if 0022 or 0023<TDHW>0209, the heater stays on until “set overboost”
(0209) is reached.

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table

4.17 TRAY HEATER

This function can be enabled using the parameter and is used to activate the heater in the defrost water collection tray, to avoid that the same freezes
due to the low external air temperature. The heater is activated based on the function described below:

4.18 CURRENT OPERATION MODE NOTIFICATION

The digital outputs configured as summer/winter will be activated based on the set operating mode - interface, digital input or supervision -, and
following this logic: contact closed = cool; contact open = heat.
The contact logic may be inverted using parameter 019E “Logic output SUM/WIN”.

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table.

4.19 NIGHT FUNCTION

The function can be activated from a remote contact and can be used to decrease the unit noise by adjusting the number of revolutions of the inverter
compressor.
It is also possible to enable interruption of the function when the adjustment temperature deviates from the setpoint of a certain differential. The
function is restored when the adjustment temperature drops by an offset value.
The operation diagrams are given in the following charts.

mode. mode.

Differential, offset and resource limitation (inverter compressor revolutions) are defined by a parameter.

The inverter compressor revolution limitation acts as maximum compressor variation limit.
The temperature regulator will continue to adjust normally, while the compressor will be limited downstream the temperature regulator.

With the fan speed limitation based on the external air temperature, in chiller operating mode during the night the speed is always reduced.

The function will be available by setting digital input DI8 as “night limit” using parameter 019C.

The night limitation function forces the machine modulating components to a threshold that can be set using the parameter.

With the limitation active (through digital input), the devices are forced to the limits set using the above parameters.
All the machine protections maintain priority (PAP, defrost, pre-ventilation, etc.).

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table

By default, the compressor is limited to operate at 50% of its maximum speed value (factory value).
The keypad shows the current rps speed of the compressor after the limitation.

5 MANAGEMENT OF DOMESTIC HOT WATER (DHW)

5.1 MANAGEMENT OF THE DHW 3-WAY VALVE
The DHW 3-way valve is used in systems producing domestic hot water for storage in a storage tank.
It’s used to divert the water flow from the system to the DHW storage tank.

The resources (pump, compressor and 3-way valve) must be coordinated, so that during the switching on phase system water is not sent to the
domestic hot water storage tank, in order to avoid cooling it down, as this water is normally colder (particularly during the summer time - system cool
-) than the water already stored, and also to avoid to send stored domestic hot water to the system, when switching from DHW to system.
This need is more evident the slower the 3-way valve is in switching. As the switching time is a specific characteristic of each valve, it must be set
using parameter 0231, so that switching can take place with the pump and the compressor off (the compressor will stop and then restart, meeting the
set safety time scales).

Switching will take place based on the function described below (from system to domestic hot water and vice versa):

In case of defrost activities during the production of domestic hot water, the 3-way valve will switch towards the system. This is to avoid cooling down
the storage tank during to the inversion of the cycle (the switching towards the system will also take place if “DHW” only operating mode is set).
Only during defrost, will the 3-way valve be switched directly towards the system (and at the end of defrost towards the domestic hot water), without
switching off the water pump, and therefore without complying with all the delays described before.

In the idle condition, the 3-way valve is always switched towards the system; it will only be switched towards the domestic hot water during the
production of domestic hot water, or if the unit is set to DHW operation mode only.

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table.

5.2 DHW STORAGE TANK MANAGEMENT

The heating of the storage tank will be possible thanks to the heat pump and the DHW storage tank heater.

The setpoints on which the regulation will take place will be:
- 0023 comfort setpoint, setting parameter 0015 = COMFORT (typically used during the day, when time band control is set);
- 0022 economy setpoint, setting parameter 0015 = ECONOMY (typically used during the night, when time band control is set)
- 0209 overboost setpoint, a value that allows to load the storage tank at a temperature higher than the current setpoint, comfort or economy; see the
function described in paragraph “5.2.3 HP + DHW storage heater (P0202=3) or delivery heater“.
The storage tank will work following the comfort or economy setpoint, on the basis of the value set in parameter 0015.

DHW management may be configured as follows:

- None: disabled from key (the domestic hot water function will be excluded);
- HP only storage tank loading: parameter 0202= ONLY HEAT PUMP (in this case, the storage tank will only be loaded using the heat pump);
- DHW storage heater only storage tank loading: parameter 0202= ONLY HEATERS (in this case, the storage tank will only be loaded using the
internal immersion heater);
- HP + replacement heater storage tank loading: parameters 0202= HEATERS + HEAT PUMP, or 0202= ONLY HEAT PUMP and 0300= 1 (in this
case, the storage tank will be loaded using the heat pump as far as this is capable of heating the water, after which the immersion heater, or in its
absence the delivery heater, will take charge of the operation).

The individual functions are described below.

5.2.1 HEAT PUMP ONLY

The heat pump is activated to produce DHW if the temperature in the storage tank falls below the value set in parameter 0513 “DHW proportional
band”, with respect to parameters 0022 “DHW economy setpoint” and 0023 “DHW comfort setpoint”.

The HP stops producing DHW in the following cases:

a) the DHW setpoint is reached (probe B3), typical condition;

Compr essor

DHW setpoint

b) the HP is inhibited due to one of the following conditions:

automatic reset due to transducer or pressure switch high pressure;
operation outside envelope;
maximum possible produced water temperature based on the external air temperature, as defined by parameters 133E, 133F, 133H, 133R, 133S,
133T, 0636;

In the b) case, the message “Max Set” will be displayed and the temperature reached by the storage tank at the time of the stop will be recorded.
This will become the new reference for the application of the “DHW proportional band” for switching the compressor back on; the unit will only restart
to produce DHW in the following condition: DHW storage tank T <= “MaxSet instantaneous T” – “DHW proportional band”, again following the “DHW
economy setpoint” or “DHW comfort setpoint”, based on the function described below:

Whenever the unit stops producing DHW, it becomes available for the production of system water.

In order to prevent the unit from remaining in DHW production mode for an excessive period of time, it will be necessary to set a maximum time for
such mode using parameter 0227 “Max time for DHW request”, after which the unit will return to be available for the production of system water. At
the expiry of the time in 0227, the unit will be made available for the production of system water for a period of time set in 0226 “min time plant”, which
must elapse even if there is no system request. This time is needed to prevent immediate return to the production of DHW following a request for
DHW, which will occur at every expiry of 0227, therefore preventing the possibility that the system is never served.
If the 0227 time expires when 0022-0513 < B3 < 0022 or
0223-0513< B3 <0023, at the expiry of 0226 the unit will return to DHW production mode until 0222 or 0223 has been fully reached.
The selection of “system” or “DHW” operation priority through parameter 0014 will mean that when the unit is switched on, in case of contemporary
system and DHW request the machine will meet either demand based on the set priority. After this, the unit will produce system or DHW water based
on the times set in 0226 and 0227.

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table

5.2.2 DHW STORAGE TANK HEATER ONLY

In this configuration, DHW storage tank needs will only be met by the electric DHW storage heater (NO10), based on the function described below.

5.2.3 HP + DHW STORAGE HEATER (P0202=3) OR DELIVERY HEATER (P0202=1 AND P0300=1)

The heat pump will work as described in paragraph “Heat pump only”, with the following differences:

case a)
(ref. paragraph “Heat pump only”) once the DHW setpoint has been reached (0022, 0023) the DHW heater comes on with a fixed delay of 30s,
following the overboost setpoint (0209). When this setpoint has been reached, it will turn on again at 0209-0210 and turn off at 0209, or, if the storage
tank water temperature continues to decrease, when 0022 or 0223 is reached, depending on the function below

only for 3-way DHW units - the delivery heater will come on, following the DHW setpoint (ECONOMY or COMFORT setpoint)
Meaning that with 0202 = 1 and 0300 = 1 (only Heat pump + Delivery heater), in case of heat pump inhibition the delivery heater will be used to satisfy
the DHW setpoint.

5.3 LOW ENERGY TARIFF

This function can be activated from the digital input (command normally given by the electricity meter) and forces the loading of the DHW storage
tank during time bands when the electricity tariff is reduced. When the contact is active, the DHW setpoint is forced to the “comfort setpoint (parameter
0023) even if the setpoint set by the user would impose “economy setpoint” based operation (parameter 0022).

For the default values of the various parameters, see the parameters table

5.4 ANTI-LEGIONELLOSIS
The purpose of this function is to treat the water contained in the DHW storage tank, heating it to a certain temperature and for a period that can be
set from the parameter, in order to eliminate any Legionellosis bacteria. The function (enabled using parameter 0222) requires the definition of a
setpoint (parameter 0211) which must be reached within a certain time, starting from a settable time (parameter 0221) and which must be maintained
until disinfection has been completed.
It is possible to select two types of anti-legionellosis programmes (parameter 0212):
• Fixed days: the anti-legionellosis function can be performed on selected days (parameters 0213 to 0220; Monday to Sunday);
• Periodic: the anti-legionellosis function can be performed at intervals from 1 to 30 days (parameter 0217). The first day to be counted for
the anti-legionellosis period will be Sunday.

The following chart indicates the time required to complete disinfection according to the temperature. If the water temperature does not exceed 60°C,
counting does not begin. When, instead, the water temperature falls below 55°C, the anti-legionellosis time is reset to ensure the bacteria do not
return.

Anti-Legionellosis

DHW Temp (°C)

After completing the anti-legionellosis cycle following a request, Service instruction, or weekly program, or for any other reasons for which the storage
tank temperature allows its completion, the function will be disabled for 24 hours.
Two settable thresholds are used:
• Cycle threshold for alarm with “Anti-legionellosis not completed” message. If after n. cycles (parameter 0224) the anti-legionellosis cycle
has not yet been completed, an alarm will be generated, which will be automatically reset upon completion of the disinfection cycle.
• Time threshold for the completion of the anti-legionellosis cycle: if for some reason the unit is unable to complete the anti-legionellosis
cycle within this time (parameter 0225 in minutes), the function will be disabled until the next request.

Based on the resources available, it is possible to select (parameter 0223) one of the following options for the completion of the anti-legionellosis
cycle:
• Heat pump only
• Heaters only
• Heat pump + Heaters

9.1 PID REGULATION
The Nadisystem software includes the PID regulator, which allows the regulation of the inverter compressor.

The graph below shows the operating logic of a PID control:

This type of control involves three types of action:

• Proportional action
• Integral action
• Derived action

The values of the three types of action can be modified to change the effects of the controlled output variable and therefore the effects on the
regulation itself.
The default parameters of the controller allow sufficiently precise and rapid adjustment within the response times. However, in certain cases it may
be necessary to make certain changes depending on the required result of the adjustment.
In i-BX(-N) units the regulation parameters can be found in the Service menu. The regulation is of the P+I type and the involved parameters are 0506,
0509 and 0512.
The machine regulation (cool or heat) is a function of the temperature value read by the system exchanger output probe.

Below are a few guidelines concerning the effect of each action.

9.1.1 PROPORTIONAL ACTION

The proportional action sets a basic control action for what is currently happening. The value of this action is proportional to the error, i.e. the deviation
of the measured unit in relation to the setpoint.

This action is defined using the proportional constant Kp (also known as proportional gain) calculated with this formula:
100
𝐾𝑝 =
𝐵𝑝

Where Bp is the value of the proportional band defined by one of the following parameters:
• 0507 and 0510 for the regulation of the heat and cool temperature
• 0513 for the regulation of the DHW temperature

The proportional band Bp defines the maximum error capable of bringing the proportional action to 100%.
A low Bp value can therefore cause an extreme reaction even when there are slight variations in the error, while a high value ensures little variation
of the control variable even when there are serious errors.

The following table shows the reactions on the system caused by the decrease of the proportional band and resulting increase of the proportional
constant.

(Decreases) (Increases) response power
Bp Kp Increases Increases Decreases (slightly) Decreases Worsens

9.1.2 INTEGRAL ACTION

The integral action is an action of control on the basis of what has happened in the past. The value of this action is proportional to the sum of the
errors of the previous moments.

This action is defined using the integral constant Ki (also known as integral gain) calculated with this formula:
𝐾𝑝
𝐾𝑖 =
𝑇𝑖

Ti is the value of the integral time defined by one of the following parameters:
• 0508 and 0511 for the regulation of the heat and cool temperature
• 0514 for the regulation of the DHW temperature
The following table shows the reactions on the system caused by the decrease of the integral time and resulting increase of the integral constant.

Overshoot Balancing time Stability
(Decreases) (Increases) response power
Ti Ki Increases Increases Increases Cancels out Worsens

The integral action can be disabled by setting the integral time to 0.

9.1.3 DERIVATIVE ACTION

The derivative action sets a control action based on the prediction of what will happen in the future. The value of this action is proportional to the error
trend (increase or decrease).
This action helps to improve dynamic performance, while maintaining the high value of the proportional action, but is less simple to adjust. It is useful
in that, if the output deviates too quickly from the setpoint value, the error derivative and, therefore, the derivative action, can be significant.
This action is defined using the derivative constant Kd (also known as derivative gain) calculated with this formula:
𝐾𝑑 = 𝐾𝑝 ∗ 𝑇𝑑

The Td time defines the projected time horizon: If too small, it will not have a good anticipatory effect; if too large, its forecast may be completely wide
of the mark.

The following table shows the reactions on the system caused by the increase of the derivative time and resulting increase of the derivative constant.
Parameter Constant Promptness of Error at full
Overshoot Balancing time Stability
(Increases) (Increases) response power
Td Kd Increases (slightly) Decreases Decreases (slightly) Does not change Improves

The derivative action can be disabled by setting the derivative time to 0.

9.1.4 THE COMBINED EFFECT OF THE THREE ACTIONS

The control action of the system is, therefore, calculated, one moment at a time, as the sum of the three contributions (Proportional, Integral and
Derivative).
The Proportional Action represents the component most sensitive to the current value of the error:
• High Kp values entail a significant reaction also for slight error variations.
• Reduced values transfer on the control variable limited variations also in case of significant errors.
The Integral action varies in a linear manner following the action of proportionality coefficient Kp/Ti and, as mentioned above, takes the past trend
of the error into account:
• Reduced Ti values lend greater importance to past system history.
• High values decrease the weight of the integral action by transferring to the control variable variations that are more dependent on the
current error value.
The Derivative action varies in a linear manner with the error derivative following the action of proportionality coefficient Kp*Td and, as mentioned
before, takes the current trend of the error into account:
• High Td values place greater importance on what may be the future trend of the error, with greater reliance on the algorithm.
• Lower values transfer to the control variable variations that are less dependent on future trends.

The image below illustrates what has been said above.
