QUESTION 3
According to a genetic theory, when sweet peas having red flowers are crossed with sweet peas
having blue flowers, the next generation of sweet peas have red, blue and purple flowers in the
proportion 50%, 25% and 25% respectively. The outcome in an actual experiment is as follows:
120 with red flowers, 45 with blue flowers and 35 with purple flowers. Using a 1% significance
level, determine whether these results support the theory. Hint use Chi-square test.

QUESTION 6
Observations of the time taken to test an electrical circuit board show that it has mean 5.68
minutes with a standard deviation 0.63 minutes. As a result of the introduction of an incentive
scheme, it is believed that the inspectors may be carrying out the test less quickly. It is found
that, for a random sample of 150 tests, the mean time taken is 5.82 minutes. Assuming that the
population variance remains unchanged, carry out a test at the 1% significant level and interpret
your findings.
