1. GENERAL
A. Information
(1) The Component Maintenance Manual (CMM) is written in accordance with the Air
Transport Association of America Specification No. 2200 (ATA 2200), Revision
2006.7 and in ASD-STE100.
(2) The Component Maintenance Manual gives all the procedures supplied by the
manufacturer for use in the workshop, so that all personnels can repair and
completely examine the component.
(3) The manual gives maintenance on the component in a workshop. It does not give
or show the level of maintenance for all special units, but gives the procedures
necessary to let the personnel do a test, disassemble, clean, examine and
assemble a unit which has been rejected from serviceable use. The manual does
not give maintenance on the component when it is installed on the aircraft.
(4) Only approved personnels are permitted to do the maintenance procedures given
in this manual.
(5) Maintenance Task Oriented Support System (MTOSS) task and subtask
identification is used in this manual. The maintenance tasks and other data have
special MTOSS numbers for use of Electronic Data Processing (EDP). The MTOSS
numbers can be ignored by the manual user.
(6) Where the data or procedures specified in this manual are different from those
specified by the regulatory agency which controls operation of your aircraft, obey
the data and procedures of the regulatory authority.
(7) This manual contains:
– Technical data for the component,
– Maintenance and repair procedures,
– An Illustrated Parts List (IPL) with data for the component parts. The IPL

TASK 25-11-73-870-801-A01
1. DESCRIPTION
A. General
(1) This manual contains maintenance and repair instructions for pilot and passenger
seats type 159 single configuration manufactured by SAFRAN SEATS FRANCE.
B. Conformity to certification
(1) The numerous requirements for demonstrating that a "seat system" meets all the
static and dynamic loads, the permanent deformation limitations, and the injury
criteria, imply that individual elements of a "seat system" can not be evaluated
independently from each other. This difficulty translates into keeping the integrity of
structures and other necessary features that have an effect on the performance of
the "seat system" intact as certified. These parts include structural components,
seat belts, backrests and bottom cushions, fabric or leather covers, armrests,
shrouds, armcaps, legrests, center consoles, baggage bars and impact surfaces on
the seat backs. Modifications by a non-OEM, or the replacement of a non-OEM
component, will invalidate the ETSO C127 certification, unless certified by the OEM.
C. Basic structure
(1) The structure is composed of two aluminum 2017A T451 machined frames. On the
upper part of each frame, there is a slide mechanism for the driven displacement of
the bucket under vertical crash conditions. A tube at lower aft part of the frames
gives sufficient support to be used as footrest by an occupant seated behind.
D. Energy absorbers (SAFRAN SEATS FRANCE patent)
(1) Absorption is done by controlled buckling of the aluminum 2017A T451 element.
Energy absorbers are put in order to be operative in forward and aftward crash
direction within a +30/-30° crash angle.
E. Bucket
(1) The bucket is manufactured in composite of glass fiber and epoxy resin which pass
JAR 27.853 specifications. Bucket is attached to the frame with four adjusted
bolts UNBRAKO type.
F. Cushion
(1) The cushion seat pan is made of molded foam VF90 and is covered with upholstery
which is fastened with Auto-Agrip and Auto-Agrip table and snap fastener. The
cushion is also kept in position with Auto-Agrip tape.
G. Cover
(1) The cover are easily removable to let rapid replacement when it is in operation.

3. GENERAL FIREBLOCKING INFORMATION
Fireblocking is the term used to describe the method or system of giving increased thermal
protection for the foam in seat cushions. For that reason, the cushions, fireblocking liner
and dress cover are considered to be a fireblocking system. Changes to any of the three
components of the system can cause an unwanted effect on the thermal protection capability
of that system. Two factors that cause an unwanted effect on capability are the cleanliness of
all the components and the integrity of the fireblocking liner.
Liners are made of materials, which, because of their chemical composition, gives inherent
capability and do not depend on yarn or fabric treatments and coatings. Liners have no shelf
life and their capability is not decreased by dry cleaning. Liner capability will be decreased
by mechanical damage and, as stated above, will be influenced by the cleanliness of all
components of the fireblocking system (cushion, liner and dress cover).

NOTE : The fabric looses its fireblocking capacity after twenty washings.
D. Cushions
The factors make in an unwanted effect the thermal performance of cushions are the density of
the cushions and theirs cleanliness.
Tests have shown that changes in cushion firmness (IFD / Identification Force Deflection) do
not make an unwanted effect on the thermal performance properties of the cushion.
Heavy stains on cushions, particularly from petroleum materials, must not be let to build up.
Weak non-volatile, non-flammable cleaners must be used carefully on the surface of the
cushion. Do not rub hard enough to break the skin of the foam. Because of the fire blocking
layer, cushions can as possible stay fairly clean.

1. ELECTROSTATIC SENSITIVE DEVICE HANDLING INFORMATION
Some equipment installed on Safran Seats (Safran Seats France) are Electrostatic Sensitive
Devices (or ESSD). Static electricity can cause immediate or latent damages to these devices
and can make them unserviceable.
The static sensitive devices are identified by a black and yellow label, with a hand crossed
out in a triangle:

NOTE : If ESSD are accidentally handled without the above specified conditions,
or they come into contact with unwanted items, their serviceability must
be fully examined.
General handling rules for ESSD:
– Prevent having all items, specially non-conductive items (for example plastic trays
or bags, packaging material, handbags, drawings or personal objects) in the limits
of the Special Handling Area which are not necessary for the work immediately.
Drawings which are necessary, are correctly attached to a rail or rigid structure to
make sure that they cannot move into the work area.
– Wear gloves or finger stalls when handling ESSD, unless they are made of an
approved conductive material.
– Before removing a device from its conductive packaging, first touch the conductive
packaging, similarly when repackaging. The conductive packaging is touched by
hand before putting it in touch with the device. Be careful that the device terminals
do not come in touch with all plastics or papers outer containers.
– Remind that ESSD can be made unserviceable by only momentarily touching any
part of the device or its case with all non-conducting or unwanted objects and that
the damage is inflicted at the moment of touch.
– Know that the use of conductive surfaces in the Special Handling Area starts from
the correct procedure supplying electrical insulated work surfaces. Be careful that
not permitted electrical equipment is not moved into the special handling Area and
that covers are not removed from all "life" equipment.
Always refer to the documentation of the equipment manufacturer and apply their handling
procedure if it is specified.

1 Identification and classification of the stains
The covers must be examined before cleaning in order to identify those
having stains which can be removed by machine cleaning and therefore send
them to a pre-washing. Machine cleaning can in fact alter these stains and
make their successive elimination not easy.
As general criteria remember that the following stains are not directly
removed in the machine, and therefore a pre-washing is necessary:
– coca cola, wine, blood, fruit, sweat, food.
On the contrary, machine cleaning removes stains of:
– coffee, fats, alcoholic drinks, some types of ink.
Generally stains can be recognized as follows:
– coffee and ink stains for their color and neat outline,
– wine, coca cola, alcoholic drinks and sweat stains for their extensive
and shaded outline,
– food and fat stains for their consistence,
– fruit and blood stains are not easily recognizable.
2 Pre-washing
NOTE : Pre-washing is advisable for all of stains of uncertain nature.
Pre-washing must be done as follows:
a Prepare a mixture of Neptune, Perchlorethylene, water with a 1 :
1 : 1 ratio. Quantity : about 1 liter (0.2642 gallon) of mixture for
30 covers. Do the pre-washing as described above.

3 Preparation of covers
The adhesive stripes of all covers must be covered in order to prevent fraying
of fabric during the cleaning phase.
4 Preparation of the machine
At least once a day it is necessary to do the following operations :
– to regenerate the Perchlorethylene through distillation,
– to add, directly into the reservoir, 1 liter (0.2642 gallon) of the pure
additive used in pre-washing to every 100 liters (26.42 gallons) of
Perchlorethylene.
5 Washing phase
Before each load of covers add one of the following additives to the
perchlorethylene, directly in the drum:
a Neptune : prepare a mixture of additive, alcohol water in a ratio of
1 : 1 : 1, for 1,5 liter (0.3963 gallon) of mixture for every 20 kg.
(44.0924 lbs) of covers to be washed.
NOTE : The additive introduced in the drum must be the same
as the one used for the pre-washing.
– Mix the perchlorethylene and the mixture before
introducing the covers, in order to help the dispersion
of the additive in the solvent.
– Load the drum with the covers, make sure that the
adhesive stripes has cover. The quantity of covers
must not be over 80 % of the machine maximum
operation load.
– Wash for 5 minutes at room temperature.
– Spin not more than 500 rpm for 3 minutes.
– Flush for 5 minutes with pure solvent at room
temperature.
– Dry at a temperature not exceeding 60 °C (140 °F).
6 Control and repetition of treatment
After drying remove the covers and examine them, one by one, to separate
those which still have stains.
Those still having stains must be pre-washed once more with the following
steps : (1) b) and c). Following this they must be machine washed, together
with another load of the same type cover. The second pre-wash is essential
to prevent the stain becoming even more resistant to removal.
7 Ironing and final control
The covers which have not been rejected must accurately controlled, to
select and go back to the cycle those still having stains and perform the
above steps for washing.

1. FITS AND CLEARANCES
A. Torque values
(1) General
(a) No measure of sleeves, bushings, etc. is necessary.
(b) The torque values used are in accordance with usual maintenance practices.
(c) Tightening torque:
1 1.5 mdaN (133 inches Lbs) for lock nut. (0.25 inches) (thread: 0.907).
2 1.030 mdaN (91.2 inches/Lbs) for screw in tensile stress and of 0,900
mdaN (78.11 inches/Lbs) for screw in shearing stress.
3 Torque is the measurement of the turning or twisting force applied to an
object. Thanks to a good torque value, part stays less than constant
stress and is immune to wear. This chart shows the recommended
minimum and maximum torque values applicable for each SAFRAN
SEATS FRANCE screw types on non-lubricated metal parts.

(b) Small editorial revisions such as spelling errors, punctuation etc., are not
recorded or otherwise identified.
Example :
65-000600-800-0 with color code H108 became
650006008000108
65-000600A800-0 with color code H108 became
650006008000108
65-600-800-0 with color code H108 became 650006008000108
65-600A800-0 with color code H108 became 650006008000108
NOTE : These part numbers are two ways interchangeable.
7 New Safran Seats France’s Parts number codification is only: "F0"
and 6 digits.
Thus, F0xxxxxx.
Example :
F0414381
F0450563
8 Safran Seats France Article Code Reference.
(Refer to Fig. 10001)
Under each part, we indicate a Safran Seats France article
code (REF: xxxxxx) as additional information in the "1234567
nomenclature" column of the CMM.
Thus, 65-000240-100-1 = 063374
Example :
650006008000108 = 047323P108
P79312-M03 = 272507
NOTE : These part numbers are two ways interchangeable.
9 Integration of the letter 'F' in front of the article code.
(Refer to Fig. 10002)
Further to the ERP change, the article code codification (REF:
xxxxxx) became (REF: Fxxxxxx):
Thus, 16-100200-011-0 = F324566
Example :
650006008000108 = F047323P108
P79312-M03 = F272507
P79387A070 = F0414381
NOTE : These part numbers are two ways interchangeable.
Thus : (REF: xxxxxx) = (REF: Fxxxxxx)
Example :
047323P108 = F047323P108
272507 = F272507
NOTE : These part numbers are two ways interchangeable.
10 The supplier P/N could be also given as information when the part
number indicated on the column part number is a F0xxxxxx type.
(Refer to Fig. 10003)
Thus, F0414381 = P79387A070
Example :
F0414380 = P33711M060
NOTE : These part numbers are two ways interchangeable.
11 Addition Of Color Code Into Part Number
a Integration of color code into part number
To include the color information into the part number, the dashes
have been removed and color code added at the end of the part
number.
