V. ANSWER IN DETAIL

1. Describe the basic structure of a tooth.

Ans:

⮚ A tooth has two parts—crown and root.

⮚ The part of the teeth which is visible is the crown.

⮚ The root is the part hidden inside the gum.

⮚ Gum is the pink, fleshy part that holds the tooth.

⮚ The crown of each tooth is covered with enamel, which is hard, tough, and often
shiny.

⮚ Below the enamel is the dentine, which is like a bone.

⮚ It is the largest part of the tooth and is very hard.

⮚ Inside the dentine is the pulp.

⮚ The pulp is very soft and is full of nerves and blood vessels.
2. How does each type of tooth help us?

They are eight in number.

Canines (Tearing teeth): They are sharp and are used to tear food.

 Severe pain while chewing or biting

 Pimples on the gums
 A chipped or cracked tooth
 Lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, even after the sensation has been removed
 Swollen or tender gums
 Deep decay or darkening of the gums
