Version
CDI EPM 7 is made available as a Workstation 6.x virtual machine. Note: You can configure VMware Workstation to check for software updates using the Workstation Edit menu > Preferences: Workspace: Software Updates. You can download the latest VMware Workstation from the VMware download site: http://www.vmware.com/download/ws. Note II: When using older Workstation versions, you will need to remove the VMware Tools program using Add/Remove Programs inside the VM and install the VMware tools current to your version from the VMware Workstation menu VM > Install VMware Tools . Make sure you configure the Hard Disk to persistent mode before making any changes.
Memory
The CDI EPM 7 VM setting for memory is 2048 MB. Note: To maintain stable performance, you can configure VMware Workstation to prevent the Windows host from swapping VM memory to disk using the Workstation Edit menu > Preferences: Memory setting: Fit all virtual machine memory into reserved host RAM. This setting presumes dedicated usage of this VM on the host with no other programs running.
Hard Disk
The CDI EPM 7 VM setting for Hard Disk is independent non-persistent mode. Note: Changes to disk are discarded when you power off the VM. This setting preserves the optimized defragmented state of the VM, enhancing performance. Additionally, with non-persistent disks you do not need to make snapshots to undo changes made during a demo. If you wish to make changes to the VM, you can edit the virtual machine settings using the Workstation VM menu > Settings > Hardware: Hard Disk > Advanced: uncheck Independent).
Network Adapter
The CDI EPM 7 VM setting for Network Adapter is disabled. This setting enhances performance for web applications as name resolution will be local only. If you wish to enable the network, you can edit the virtual machine settings using the Workstation VM menu > Settings > Hardware: Network Adapter. Note I: Windows networking services are configured for manual startup. Use the Start >> Start Windows Network shortcut on the

Administrator Desktop and/or Taskbar to enable networking services when the Network Adapter has been connected to the VM. Note II: When connected to the SAP Network, the same requirements as for regular computers apply to a VM with the Network Adapter configured in bridged or NAT mode. Familiarize yourself with the SAP IT documentation on this topic, which you can find on the SAP Portal: Start here - Guidelines for VMware Users V1 1 For your convenience, local copies have been placed on the VM in the Administrator Desktop Documents folder. For more information, contact SAP IT. Note III: To transfer files between the host and the VM and vice versa, networking is not required. For this, you can use an USB device, which has been enabled in the CDI EPM 7 VM settings. Alternatively, you can enable Shared Folders using the Workstation VM menu > Settings > Options: Shared Folders.
Display
The CDI EPM 7 VM setting for Display is with specified monitor settings: one monitor with maximum resolution of 1024 x 768. This setting matches common beamer / projector resolutions. If you wish to use another resolution, you can edit the virtual machine settings using the Workstation VM menu > Settings > Hardware: Display before starting the VM. Note I: The Planning and Consolidation demo is designed for a larger resolution. Adjust the resolution if the beamer support it and/or maximize screen real estate by showing Internet Explorer in Full Screen (F11) and minimize the BPC Action Pane.

If startup takes much longer, or if the disk indicator continuously blinks, likely causes are VM memory over-allocation, causing the host computer to swap, or a fragmented disk on the host computer. Possible solutions are: Defragment the host disk with Disk Defragmenter Disk Defragmenter: Start > Run: dfrg.msc Reduce the amount of memory that has been allocated to the VM. When the VM is up and running at least 200 MB should be available on the host. Task Manager: Start > Run: taskmgr > Performance tab: Physical Memory Available.
More advice how to optimize the performance of the VM can be found in the Performance Optimization Presentation located in C:\Files\Documentation\CDI\CDI Performance Optimization.ppt
Start Toolbar
You can use the Start >> and Stop >> toolbars on the taskbar and Desktop to easily start the different demo environments. The toolbars point to a folder with shortcuts to batch files that startup relevant background services and client programs. Click to run the startup file; the program runs minimized on the taskbar for discretion. The batch files can be easily customized by using right-click > Edit (opens in Notepad minimized).
If you always want the full Enterprise environment running on your VM, or always want Windows Network to run, simply copy the shortcut from the Start toolbar on the taskbar to the Start menu Startup folder

Services
CDI hosts the SQL Server relational and OLAP database server, two web application servers (Microsoft IIS for ASP.NET and Apache Tomcat for JSP), the entire BusinessObjects Enterprise Reporting environment including Polestar, application servers for all Enterprise Performance Management products and a wide range of client programs. Starting up all services automatically requires more resources than typically available on a computer. For this reason, only core Windows operating system services are configured for automatic startup. SQL Server, Server Intelligent Agent (starting CMS and FRS) and Apache Tomcat are expected to be used for any demo and are configured for automatic startup. The Themes service provides the XP look and feel to the CDI and can be stopped and/or configured for manual startup if the classic Windows 2003 interface is preferred. You can use the BusinessObjects Management Console in the Quick Launch zone on the taskbar to configure Services.

Known Issues
PCM Voyager EPMMDX Connector
Issue: When creating a Voyager Connection in CMC using the EPMMDX Connector the Log on to the data source window to connect to an EPM cube does not respond. As a result no connection can be defined.
Solution or workaround: Configure PCM to use Default Security, which is the only supported authentication mechanism for the Voyager EPMMDX Connector for PCM 7. Additionally, for Voyager Connection Authentication, only User Specified and Prompt are supported.
Please note that this setting does not provide integration with BusinessObjects Enterprise. EPMMDX Enterprise authentication is scheduled for PCM 7.5 and BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 FP 1.3.
