1.0 MSD PROJECT WORK
The Final Year Project Work for Mechatronics trainees is to be started in the 5th
semester. Partial Completion of the Project work (as detailed below) should take place
during the 5th semester. The same project will be completed fully during their 6th
semester. Any improvisations to the design made in the 5th semester shall be considered
during the 6th semester. The Project Title and design need to be approved by the Course
coordinator at the beginning of the respective semester. The Project in charge of each
training centre is responsible for helping the trainees to identify the project, as per our
guidelines.

1.1. The Project approach should be of MODULAR design and assembling. The project
should have minimum 4 modules. During the 5th semester the trainee has to complete
the following activities,

a) Finalize the Design

b) Finalise the Bill of Material
c) Complete the PCB Design and Fabrication
d) Complete Assembling and Functional testing of at least 2 of the Modules

1.2 Guidelines applicable for Mechatronics System Design (MSD) Project Work
of 5th semester:

a) Each trainee shall complete a Mechatronics System Design (MSD) Project Work of 160hrs.
During his/her 5th semester to build working model related to mechatronics applications.
b) Project Work in charge / Section In charge shall
• identify group of trainees not exceeding four for a specific project.
• approve project with verified design, schematics, bill of material, assembly drawings, step
wise approach and implementation plan
• Monitor the trainees during their Project Work on weekly basis
• Facilitate with the required materials
• Arrange for Intermediate and final evaluation as per the guidelines given further.
c) Trainee shall:
• submit Project work synopsis to project In charge with details regarding design,
schematics, bill of material, assembly drawings, step wise approach and implementation
plan
• The selected Project should comprise of Hardware, Software as well as Display/ User
Interface systems. The Hardware shall be based on Electrical/ Electronic Circuits for
Motor/Power control or Pneumatic Circuits controlled by PLC or
Microcontroller/Embedded controllers. A combination of above also is accepted.
Integrating Communication protocols into the above also is desirable.
• Prepare a power point presentation on the project work for the Intermediate as well as for
final evaluation.

1.3. Guidelines for evaluation of Mechatronics System Design (MSD) Project Work

1.3.1. Intermediate evaluation of MSD Project work:

Two Intermediate evaluations shall be conducted for the MSD project as follows:
Time allotted for Project model display :1h
Time allotted for Project report discussion: 1 h 30 min
Time for Presentation : 30 min for each group

NTTF_CP15_Sem5_MSD PROJECT_WORK INSTRUCTION_W/ CP15/ 7520_Rev3_2017 Page 2

Presentation should be done with Power point application.

Marks allocation for the attributes are as follows:

Project model display

15 marks
Project report
5 marks
discussion
Presentation 5 marks
25 marks
Total

Sessional (S) is to be awarded for 50 marks is computed by adding two intermediate

marks.

1.3.2. Final Evaluation of MSD Project work

Final Evaluation of Project work shall be conducted as follows:

Time allotted for Project model display :1h
Time allotted for Project report discussion: 1 h 30 min
Time for Presentation : 30 min for each group

Presentation should be done with Power point application

Marks allocation for the attributes is as follows:

Project model display

30 marks
Project report
10marks
discussion
Presentation 10 marks
50 marks
Total (t)
Grand total T is computed as the sum of two Intermediate evaluation marks and Final
evaluation marks and computed for out of 100 marks.

Grand Total (T) = S+t

1.3.3. Students shall prepare a Project report by analyzing the following factors and
submit it to the staff in charge at centre for the approval.

1.3.4. GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING THE PROJECT REPORT :

a. The project report is an important document that reflects the quality of the project
work and its end product. Its content should be organized under the following
headings.
b. Titles page: This page contains title of the project, name of the project group, nature
of the project, area of application and names of the guides.
c. Acknowledgement
d. Introduction: Reason for selection of the subject, broad outline of the product, with
specifications and organizations of the report.
e. System design: Block diagram level design of the project system parameter and their
interrelationship.

f. Detailed design: Hardware, software, PCB, Transformer, heat sinks, enclosures and
interconnections.
g. Conclusions and self evaluation: The result and achievement of project work should
be discussed in respect of the following:
1. Achievement and shortfalls in relation to the objectives.
2. Reasons for shortfalls
3. Mention of problems encountered and overcome
4. Applications of the results of the project work
5. Recommendations for further work/ modifications
