Define processes and process groups in a project management framework.
In project management, processes and process groups are fundamental components of a project
management framework, such as the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Management
Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) or the PRINCE2 methodology. Let's define processes and process
groups:

Processes: Processes in project management refer to a set of interrelated activities, actions, and
tasks that are performed to achieve specific project objectives. Each process has defined inputs,
tools and techniques, and outputs. Processes provide a structured approach to project
management by outlining the necessary steps to be taken and the expected outcomes at each
stage of the project.

Process Groups: Process groups are logical groupings of related processes that help in organizing
and managing the project's activities and deliverables. There are typically five process groups, as
defined by the PMBOK:

1. Initiating: This process group includes the processes that are performed to define and
authorize a new project or a new phase of an existing project. Key activities in this group include
project charter development, stakeholder identification, and project feasibility analysis.
2. Planning: The planning process group involves processes aimed at defining the project's objectives, outlining the
project management approach, and developing the project plan. Activities in this group include scope definition,
schedule development, cost estimation, risk assessment, and resource planning.

3. Executing: The executing process group focuses on the actual implementation of the project plan. It involves
coordinating resources, managing stakeholders, performing the work defined in the project plan, and ensuring that
project deliverables are produced according to the agreed-upon quality standards.

4. Monitoring and Controlling: This process group comprises processes that track, review, and regulate project
progress. It involves measuring actual performance against the project plan, identifying deviations or variances,
implementing corrective actions, and ensuring that the project remains on track in terms of scope, schedule, cost,
quality, and other key parameters.

5. Closing: The closing process group encompasses processes related to finalizing and formally concluding the
project. Activities in this group include obtaining customer or stakeholder acceptance, documenting lessons learned,
archiving project records, conducting project reviews, and transitioning project deliverables to the operational
phase, if applicable.

These process groups provide a structured and systematic approach to managing projects, allowing project
managers and teams to effectively plan, execute, and control project activities, while ensuring alignment with
organizational goals and stakeholder expectations.
