A few years ago, a friend suggested we should visit the Forest of Bowland,
and in particular the Trough of Bowland. To be honest, until then, Kay
and I had never even heard of these places, let alone knew where they
were. When we learned that they were in northern Lancashire, we realised
we’d skirted the area many times before, when traversing the country to visit
my sister, who lives in the Lake District.
Recently, when we were discussing plans for our next tour, Kay suddenly
remembered that conversation, so we started looking more closely at the
campsites in the area, and duly booked a Caravan and Motorhome Club site
just a few miles away from Clitheroe.
Arriving at Acre Hill CL, we were soon set up, the kettle was on, and we
spent the day relaxing and taking in the glorious views from the campsite.

Gateway to Asia
Turkey (or Türkiye, to give this beautiful country
the official name it has used since May 2022) is
much more than just another destination on our
travels – it’s the gateway to what we hope will
be the defining months of our journey.
Given its geographical location, it will enable
us to leave Europe behind and cross into Asia, the
third continent we will have visited since leaving
Wales. In doing so, we also have the chance to
visit Georgia and Armenia, two countries that
have long been calling to our spirit of adventure.
A combination of the promise of such a unique
trip, and huge relief that we had actually made
it into Turkey after the doubt surrounding our
border crossing, resulted in a heady wave of
excitement as we headed east to Istanbul.
Official documentation
For reasons that are unknown to us, the Turkish
border authorities are particularly strict about
turning away vehicles trying to enter the country
that are not registered to the person driving them
at the time of crossing.
That is, unless you have official documentation
in the form of a legally notarised letter from the
registered owners, giving explicit permission
for the driver to take the vehicle into Turkey. 1 The Süleymaniye

Tell us about your buying and owning experiences, and
you could be in with a chance of winning a great prize!
The Owner Satisfaction Awards 2024 will be organised by Practical Motorhome with The Camping and
Caravanning Club for the seventh year in a row – but we can’t do it without you. If you’ve bought a new
or pre-owned motorhome since 1 January 2020, and have owned it for at least three months,
then we’d love to hear from you. Tell us how you were treated when you bought the motorhome,
how it’s behaved, and whether or not you would buy again from the same dealer!
Launched in 2004, our Owner Satisfaction Awards is the only industry scheme that’s completely
based on owner feedback, including both the practicality and reliability of the motorhome
itself. What’s more, everyone who completes our survey stands a chance of winning
a top prize of a seven-night stay at a C&CC site of their choice; there are two additional prizes
of a three-night stay at a C&CC site of their choosing. The survey closes on 22 October 2023.
