LEARNING ACTIVITIES:
CHAPTER 4
There are a lot of tourist destination here in the Philippines, but the problem is the
transportation going through different destinations. Now, give at least 10 problems to our
country’s transportation and create a solution to improve it, for the development of our
tourism industry.
PROBLEMS IN TRANSPORTATION SOLUTIONS

1. Traffic Congestion -in order to solve traffic, we need to widen

the roads, build more parking lot and add
bus lanes.
2. Damage to the vehicle -before we travel it is important to check first
the vehicle if it is in good condition and make
sure that it does not have damage.

3. Poor quality of road network -proper construction of roads is needed to

have a safety trip and to avoid road
accidents, and of course so that we can get
to our destination immediately.
4. Transportation -it is better to rent a vehicle rather than
commuting, especially when we have a
family vacation because renting a vehicle can
save money and time.
5. Inadequate public transportation -add vehicles for a faster transportation
6. Overloading of passengers -follow the exact passenger capacity of each
vehicle.
7. Lack of gas -before we travel let’s make sure that our car
has a lot of fuel.
8. Lack of transport planning -build more bypass or tollways that would
shorten travel time and to avoid traffic.
9. Non-motorized transportation -it is better to commute than using a non-
motorized transportation, because you won’t
be able to arrive immediately into your
destination especially when you are rushing.
10. Rough Road -Fix the road for a better progress of vehicles.
CHAPTER 5

1. Why are you taking up BSHM?

• The reason I choose Hospitality Management industry is because it is a
career path that I have been interested. I choose this course because I
wanted to improve my skills in cooking and I know I can apply my skills
to it. And also I want to work in resorts and restaurants someday and
this course is one of the most in demand course. And I believe this
course would open a lot of opportunities for me.
2. What kind of services would you like to offer to the costumers if you will
build your own tourism and hospitality business?
• If ever I build my own resort or restaurant someday, I will make sure
that it will be worth it for my costumers to come here because I will give
everything I can just to enjoy and relax them at my resort and besides
they will also be satisfied with the foods at my restaurant. They will not
regret going here because the service that I will give to the costumers is
clean and fast, I will make sure that the costumers will not getting bored
waiting for the foods they’ve ordered. I will provide the appropriate
service for the costumers, so that they keep coming back to my
business.
3. If you are going to make a career out of the course you are taking up
right now, what kind of career will that be and why ?
• If I were going to make a career out of the course I taking up right now
I think it would be being a hotel receptionist. I want to experience the
job of a receptionist, and I know that being a receptionist is not an easy
job because it has many tasks that they had to finished. They are the
one who takes in charge of the book reservations, preparing bills and
taking payments, takes all incoming calls in the hotel and answering
questions of the costumers about their lodging. It is also their duty to
put the guest at case at the time of their arrival and welcome them to
the hotel which is to be their temporary home for a few days. These is
the duties of being a hotel receptionist it is quite challenging but we
need to strive and work hard for us to achieve our goals in life.

CHAPTER 6
1. Explain the Multiplier effects of tourism as to employment
• The employment multiplier which measures changes in economic activity
caused by increases or decreases in tourism employment.
• This can be expressed in one of two ways: as a ration of the combination
of direct and secondary employment generated per additional unit of
tourist expenditure to direct employment generated, or as the employment
created by tourism per unit of tourist expenditure

2. Explain the Multiplier effects of tourism as to income generated.

• The income multiplier is the number of times which an individual amount
of tourist expenditure should be multiplied to identify the total effect on
the visited place’s economy.
• Income multiplier can be expressed in one of two ways: the ratio method,
which expresses the direct and indirect incomes (or the direct and
secondary incomes) generated per unit of direct income; or the normal
method, which expresses total income (direct and secondary) generated in
the study area per unit increase.
