Mission / Vision
The mission of the Erasmus Student Network is the enrichment of society
through international students.
Vision statement: By 2025, ESN will be the global network of the Erasmus
Generation, committed to improving international education and providing
self-development opportunities to two million young people, fostering
intercultural understanding and creating positive change in society.
History
1987 A Mobility scheme is created, part of which is the Erasmus programme
1989 Erasmus Bureau invites 32 Erasmus students, kick-starting the Erasmus Student Network
1989 First section using Erasmus Student Network name is founded in Utrecht, the Netherlands
2005 Official ESN office established in Brussels where the International Board and the
Secretariat are located. Known as “The ESN House”, the International Board lives and works
there.
2017 - 2020 The “ESN Review” suggests fundamental structural changes, many of which are
implemented. In 2020, the last ever Annual General Meeting is held.
