    ESN Groningen is the largest international student organization in Groningen, Netherlands, with over 3,000 members. It represents international students through various programs and more than 150 events per year. This includes two large Introduction Weeks each year for new students with a week-long program of social and cultural activities to help them settle into student life in Groningen. ESN Groningen is run by volunteers and aims to foster intercultural understanding through its diverse opportunities that prioritize an open and welcoming environment for both Dutch and international students.

    Mission / Vision
    The mission of the Erasmus Student Network is the enrichment of society
    through international students.

    Vision statement: By 2025, ESN will be the global network of the Erasmus
    Generation, committed to improving international education and providing
    self-development opportunities to two million young people, fostering
    intercultural understanding and creating positive change in society.
    History
    1987 A Mobility scheme is created, part of which is the Erasmus programme

    1989 Erasmus Bureau invites 32 Erasmus students, kick-starting the Erasmus Student Network

    1989 First section using Erasmus Student Network name is founded in Utrecht, the Netherlands

    1990 ESN International founded in Copenhagen

    1994 ESN has 60 local sections in 14 countries

    2004 ESN has 280 local sections in 32 countries

    2005 Official ESN office established in Brussels where the International Board and the
    Secretariat are located. Known as “The ESN House”, the International Board lives and works
    there.

    2017 - 2020 The “ESN Review” suggests fundamental structural changes, many of which are
    implemented. In 2020, the last ever Annual General Meeting is held.
