experience in Colombia
___

Come and get to know the greatness of the heart of the world,

The ancestral sound of nature…

Hello, and Thank you very much for letting us connect with you, We are
very happy and excited to explain all the details regarding the traditional
and Special Lost city trek. The most amazing experience inside La Sierra
Colombiana.
THE TRADICIONAL LOST CITY TREK

This tour is the tour offered by all tour operators, it consists of 4 or 5 days
hiking. We work only with the best and most experienced guides. During
the hike you will enjoy a very warm and humid climate that often changes to
rainy in the afternoon. We will pass by magical places in nature, see
wonderful views, crystal clear rivers to swim and cool off in addition to
getting to know a little more about the cultures that have preserved the
magic of the lungs of the world alive for years and years.

We usually stay in camps with more people, so this is a perfect option to get
to know other travelers around the world.

This great adventure starts like this…

Day 1 (8 - 9 km. approx. 3-4 Hours)

You will be picked up at your hotel in Santa Marta between 7:30 - 8:30 am
(depending on where you are) to be driven to the office (1hour approx.) to
complete the payment and have everything ready before the tour. We will
get on the cars again 1 more hour through an open road until we arrive at a
village called Mamey or Machete pelao, we will have lunch in one local
restaurant and start the walk from this point, the first day we walk 4-5 hours
until camp 1. In camp 1 we will have time to chill and talk about the history
of the region, the farmers and the indigenous communities who inhabit the
region, we’ll have a very nice dinner and a well deserved rest..
Day 2 (16 Km. approx. 8-9 Hours)

We will wake up at 5:00am, have breakfast at 5:30am and we will start

walking around 6 am, until 10 am, (4 hours approx.) until Mumake camp. In
Mumake, the Buritaca river is by the camp so we’ll have time to swim, relax
a bit and have lunch. We will keep walking after Lunch, 4 more hours until
Paso Lorenzo Camp. We will arrive at Paso Lorenzo around 4pm. In this
camp we will spend the second night. This is a very small camp since it’s
new. The old camp that was well equipped unfortunately was destroyed by
a mudslide a month ago after the heavy rain. This will be part of a more
challenging experience.

Day 3 (10-11Km approx. 6 Hours)

This is the big day! We will wake up early at 5:00am and start our walk
around 6am. It takes one hour and a half approx to get to the first platforms
of the city, we will walk around the city recognizing this archeological and
sacred place for the indigenous tribes in la Sierra. We will spend around
3hours enjoying this ancient site. After visiting the city we will walk back to
Paso Lorenzo camp to have lunch and then continue for 3 more hours to
arrive at Mumake Camp where we can swim again, rest and spend our 3rd
night.

Day 4 (16 Km approx. 6 Hours)

This day we also start walking at 6 am. We have a big day to go back,
starting with a 3 hours walk from Mumake to Camp 1. In Camp one we will
offer juice and snacks and continue the last 3 hours to get to El Mamey. In
Mamey a nice lunch will be waiting for us, also the cars that will take us to
Santa Marta.

The price of this tour is 1.750.000cop per person. This price is fixed by the
communities that work and live in the area, so this tour also includes
contributions to the farmers and Indigenous communities of the region.

SPECIAL TOUR TO THE LOST CITY (EXCLUSIVE VISIT TO THE

ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE)

This experience is an option we offer to groups who want to enjoy more of

the trail without so many people and a moment alone at the archaeological
site, it’s very demanding on day 1 and 2, but very relaxed on day 3 and 4.
Day 1 (10km)

This day we start the tour by motorbike from the starting point in El Mamey.
This will take us further along the trail, as this part of the ride is a very steep
and sunny uphill. We will have approximately 30 minutes on the bike which
will save us the climb of the first 2 hours uphill, we will reach the highest
point of the hike and then descend for about 30 minutes to reach the first
natural pools before all the other groups arrive. We will be able to have a
refreshing time in this beautiful place and then continue walking for two
more hours to camp #2 (Wiwa camp) In the Camp, we will be able to rest,
have dinner and learn a little more about the indigenous cultures that
inhabit this trail. We will spend the first night at camp #2.

Day 2 (12 km + 3km at the Lost City)

Our second day will start very early in the morning. At 5:00 am we have to
wake up, to have breakfast at 5:30 am and start our day 2 trek at around
6:00 am. We will walk for 1 hour along the river, getting to know more about
the indigenous people on the way, we can again enjoy the trails alone as
the other groups are three hours behind us.

After this hour of walking along the Buritaca river, we cross a bridge which
indicates the next climb is to come, this uphill is approx. of 1 hour and 30
min. to the place called Koskunguena, (the highest point). At this point we
take a short break and recover our energy with some fruit. The trek
continues for another 1 hour and 30 minutes to camp #3. In this camp we
will be able to swim (there is no one here since we are quite ahead from the
other groups). After swimming a while we will continue our way to the Lost
City. 40 minutes walking along the Buritaca river, and then a 40 min walking
up to the first platforms of the archaeological site. At this time there is no
one else in La Ciudad Perdida, so we will be able to enjoy this wonderful
place alone, climb the stairs alone and take all the pictures without
distractions. We will have some snacks at the top of the site We will be
walking in the different sectors of the site for about 3 hours and then return
to KosKunguena where we will rest and rest for the second night.

In Koskunguena we will sleep in hammocks but we will be alone, sice all

the groups stay in camp #3. (Camp #3 is very small and all the groups stay
there, there are only 4 showers and there are usually more than 100 people
in the busy season)

Day 3 (8 km)

This day will be a much more relaxed day. We will wake up around 5:30 to
enjoy the sunrise and the beauty of this place, you can chill and rest in the
hammocks while you enjoy a cup of coffee and breakfast. we will get ready
and start our walk around 7:30 am. we wil start descending 2 hours until the
wiwa camp, where we will be able to swim and have lunch.

Once we have had lunch and relaxed, we will continue our walk for another
2 hours, but this walk will be through a new path full of jungle and
adventure, this is a more reserved area since almost no one takes this way,
we will be crossing rivers and waterfalls along the way.

After this 2 hours we will arrive to La negra Camp, this is a very nice camp
to chill, relax and enjoy the nature around. This camp the best option to
relax because you won’t find crowds of people here. we will swim and chill
in the hammocks while you enjoy a hot coffee or chocolate.

In the evening we’ll have a very nice dinner and we will spend the night in
beds.

Day 4 (6 km)

We’ve made it!! We've Found the city and we’ve seen so much nature. This
day is to enjoy the walk, 2 hours and 30 min walk to campamento Freddy, in
this camp we will have a break for you to have some rest, 20 minutes of
rest and we will continue 1 more hour to Campamento del Rio, This camp
is amazing for you to relax before finishing the trek, it has very cool places
for you to swim in the river and jump from a bridge ( it’s a very safe jump) at
this point we will have some fruit and relax a bit more.

Afterwards this time chilling and relaxing at the camp, we will take a
motorbike back to the starting point, we include this motorbike because this
way is very sunny and it has not much vegetation, the motorbike
experience is fun and safe.

Some Important recommendations

● This Trek is considered to be one of the most challenging treks in

Colombia; and has a medium to high difficulty, so we recommend that
you are in good physical condition at the time of starting the hike. We
recommend not to eat heavy meals or alcoholic beverages the night
before the trek. We must be mentally prepared to walk under any
weather conditions, heavy rains and intense sunny days.
● If you’re doing the standar version we recommend you to take 20.000
cop extra on the 1st day to send your backpack until the highest point
in a moto, the 1st 2 hours of walk will be through a path that’s sunny,
humid and steepy, breathing is hard in this part, so if you want to
avoid suffering in this part of the walk, it’s better to send your
backpack. very worth it!
● Try to avoid doing difficult hikes that can compronmise your health
before the trek
● Pack as light as possible, many parts of the trek are uphill and they
can be very steepy, the weather can be also very warm and humid so
that’s why we recommend you pack only shorts to walk, two shorts to
walk during the 4 days might be enough, When packing, use plastic
bags before your regular bag, this will help to avoid your clothes
getting wet in the case we have rain on the way.
● The most important recommendation I can give you is to forget about
the comfortness of the society, you will be getting inside a Colombian
region with a complete different culture, And you’ll be very far away
from civilization. The camps are all equipped with blankets, pillows
and mosquito nets, so you don’t need to take sleeping bags or
pillows, however, you must know they are very rustic, considering
there are no ways for cars to transport materials and they have been
built by the same farmers of the region. Fortunately, they have
improved a lot in the recent time. Good enough to live a different and
very good experience inside the jungle.
● Please, enjoy the views, stop to take pictures, ask as many questions
as you can, take as many photos as you wish, try to get to know
about the people who lives in this region and you will understand
better the heart of this beautiful Region in the Ceribbean…

Remember to contact us if you have any other questions, we will be very

happy to help.
