TMPE 2 – Ecotourism Management
2nd Semester, AY 2021-2022

PHILOSOPHY

SDSSU believes that higher education is an instrument for the improvement of life through democratized access to quality education in the
development of a well-rounded person.
VISION
A leading “Glocal” University with widened academic perspectives that focus on attaining food security, supporting poverty alleviation,
developing renewable energy, and conserving natural environment.

These are the specific goals in the four (4)-fold functions of the University:

PROGRAM GOALS
The program will equip students with competencies that are needed to execute operational tasks and management functions in travel and tour
services, research and MICE activities and other emerging tourism industry. It further aims to produce efficient, self reliant, competent and socially
responsible professionals who will meet the demands of globally competitive tourism industry.

INSTITUTIONAL INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

1. Introduce new ideas related to renewable energy which will lead to conservation of natural resources.
2. Develop training plan that would serve as guide to sustain food security and for poverty alleviation.
3. Exhibit entrepreneurial skills in various fields of endeavor.
4. Demonstrate clear understanding of the perspective of research processes.
5. Analyze problems concerning environmental degradation.
6. Produce creative outputs for possible patentable research subjects.
7. Widen the position reception of the role that research plays in education and industries.
8. Craft environment-friendly energy sources by utilizing indigenous and local materials as research outputs.
9. Write research proposals and present the outputs in different forums/fora.
10. Innovate current research tools for more accurate gathered idea.
11. Publish researches to accredited refereed journals and engage in international consortia.

PROGRAM INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

A graduate of BS Tourism Management should be able to but not limited to:

1. Plan, implement and monitor tours and sales activities


2. Research, plan and conduct various tour guiding activities
3. Develop appropriate marketing programs and arrange the required travel services
4. Plan/organize, implement and evaluate MICE activities
5. Plan, develop and evaluate tourism sites and attractions

Course Description: This course presents an overview of ecotourism as a form of sustainable development; discusses the principles and goals
of ecotourism development. This subject also covers discussion on ecotourism planning and development process, including the institutional and

legal frameworks for ecotourism, the need for collaborative planning and assessment criteria for ecotourism from a broad perspective; with focus on
ecotourism market segments and best practices. May include a field trip component.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
1. Knowledge/Competencies
1.1 Develop knowledge, understand, and appreciation of environmentally responsible travel to relatively undisturbed natural areas that
promotes biodiversity conservation, has low negative visitor impact, and provides for socio‐economic benefits to the local stakeholder
communities.
1.2 Develop knowledge and understanding of resources, products, best management practices, and opportunities in the ecotourism sub‐
sector.
2. Skills
2.1 Apply knowledge of sustainable ecotourism planning to management practices in the development of ecotourism sites
3. Values
3.1 Appreciate the value of nature and culture as ecotourism resources and how ecotourism may be used to enhance these assets
