Activity 1 | Introduction to Qualitative Research
1. What is your understanding of qualitative research? How does it differ from

quantitative research?
- The underlying beliefs, motives, and causes can be understood by using
quantitative research. It sheds light on the issues. Also, qualitative research is
helpful in identifying trends, thoughts, and ideas and provides a deeper
understanding of the issue than quantitative research, which also aids in the
development of concepts and hypotheses.
2. What does the subjectivity, empathy, and reflexivity of qualitative research

mean to you?
- For our understanding the Subjectivity refers to the fact that qualitative
research is inherently subjective, meaning that the researcher's own
experiences, perspectives, and biases can influence the research process
and the interpretation of the data. Qualitative researchers aim to be aware of
and transparent about their subjectivity to minimize its potential impact on the
research findings. Empathy is important in qualitative research because it
helps researchers develop a deeper understanding of the social phenomena
they are studying. Reflexivity in qualitative research refers to the researcher's
ongoing awareness of their own positionality and the ways in which their own
background and experiences might shape their research.
3. How do the principles of qualitative research influence the way data is

collected and analyzed?
- The principles of qualitative research emphasize the importance of
understanding the subjective experiences and perspectives of participants, as
well as the context in which those experiences occur. As a result, data
collection in qualitative research typically involves methods such as in-depth
interviews, focus groups, and observation, which allow researchers to gather
rich, detailed information about participants' experiences and views.
4. Research and present a qualitative study. The presentation should include

an overview of the study, the research questions, the data collection
methods, and the purpose of the study.
Study Title: The Impact of Excessive Use of Computer and Mobile Games Among
St. Vincent’s College Incorporated (SVCI) Students.
Introduction: College students are usually facing their devices on their daily
basis that can basically negatively impact their mental health and psychological factors.
it indicates that the use of these devices may lead to a number of symptoms such as
headache, impaired concentration and memory and also fatigue. Over the last decade,
the usage of computers and mobile devices has dramatically increased. They are now
an essential part of our daily lives like in school, business, commerce, and also
communication; however, their use may lead to health problems. Therefore, the present
study was designed to investigate a link between the use of computer and mobile
devices and their adverse health effect.
Research Question: What are the effects of the computer and mobile games towards
the students?
What could be the reason why students are addictive to this kind of games/devices?
Data Collection Method: Structured interviews will be conducted with a purposive

sample of Thirty (30) College students. Selection of participants will be based on
their capacity and desire to take part in the study. Participants will be recruited
through messaging and word of mouth.
Purpose of the Study: The findings of this study will determine the cause and effect of
computer and mobile games among college students. This information can be
used to study the psychological effect of these devices to improve the
recommended limit of using these devices. Furthermore, the study will contribute
to widened the understanding of the computer and mobile games that the
students are addicted for.
Activity 2 | Designing a Qualitative Research
Research Title: The Impact of Excessive Use of Computer and Mobile Games
Among St. Vincent’s College Incorporated (SVCI) Students.
Research Question: What are the effects of the computer and mobile games towards
the students?
What could be the reason why students are addictive to this kind of games/devices?
Hypothesis: The habit on using the computer and mobile phone problems we’re
usually faced by students, because of the adverse academic performance and health
problems, lack of time management and safety.
Data Collection: The researcher will gather data using interviews with a purposive
sample of Thirty (30) College students. Selection of participants will be based on their
capacity and desire to take part in the study. The participants will be recruited via email
or word of mouth, will be sent to students at the school. The interview will not last for an
hour the interview will only take less than 30 minutes until the all the questions are
answered and the participant is satisfied for his/her answers. Then the researchers will
review the interview and analyze it for further studies.
Sample and Recruitment: Thirty (30) students will be chosen those who were
excessively using mobile or computer from Saint Vincent College Incorporated (SVCI).
The selection of the participants will be base on their desire to be part of the study and
their capacity to answer all the questions in the interview to share their insights
regarding to excessive use of these devices.
