2. Compute for the sum of similar fractions correctly.

3.Observe cooperation with other members of the group.

II. SUJECT MATTER

Topic: Adding Similar Fractions

Reference: Mathematics 4 LM, pp.112-115

III. LEARNING EXPERIENCES

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’sActivity

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Prayer
“Everyone please stands up for our prayer.”
2. Greetings Everyone Pray.

“Good morning class” Good morning maam

Good morning classmate!
Please before taking your sit, pick up the piece
of paper around you and arrange you chair.
3. Checking of attendance No one is absent in row row 1.
before we proceed let me first check your No one is absent in row 2.
attendance. No one is absent in row 3.
this will the row 1

row 3
4. classroom management
We observe the following classrooms rules
and regulations as we go thought our CLASSROOM RULES
discussion. Can you please the following? 1.Sit properly and Be quiet especially when
your teacher discussing Infront.
Yes Marta 2. listen attentively
3. Raise your hand when you need something,
or you want to speak.
4. follow and participate when we have an
activity.
5. finish the given task on time.
6. respect everyone

Thank you, Marta!

4. Energizer
Let me call of all of you to sing a
“Mathematics songs”
Yes maam
Are you ready ???
3.Review .
Now, let us recall what we learned yesterday.
Who can tell me, what was our topic
yesterday?
Our topic yesterday was about simplifying
Yes denise fraction to lowest terms.

Very good!
I have here some questions regarding our past
lesson. please raise your hand if you the know
answer. Yes maam
It’s that clear class?

Yes agatha
1. how many triangles are there in the figure?
Maam there are 13 triangles.
Yes agatha
Very good!
2.how many squares are there in the figure?
Maam there are 14 squares.
Yes Miguel
Great!
3. how many rectangles are there in the figure? Maam there are 10 rectangles.
Yes Ryan
Very nice!
Ma’am! You have three pencils
Very good class it seems that you are learned
to our previous lesson.
I think, all of you are now ready to learn
another topic for today.

4. Motivation
(The teacher will post the old Chinese puzzle
what you called TANGRAM.)
Are you familiar on the picture, maybe you can
see it on the school supplies store or inside the
school. It is an old Chinese puzzle or what you
called TANGRAM.

Observe the picture let us identify where are

the same polygon and Which is same size and
shape The blue and violet triangles is the same
polygon
Yes Nicole Nice!

Very good

More than that There’s more?

Maam is that right the green and the red
Yes Pauleen triangles?

Yes, Pauleen your answer is correct.

Let me clear this one even it is not same size
but it is same shape that also called polygon

Why not?

Very good!
We cannot add objects that are not alike.
Today our lesson is something similar to this.

B. Lesson Proper
1.Presentation and Lesson Development
Today, we will visualize Congruent polygon.
I want you to visualize the figure.
Is that polygons are congruent on the center
polygon? Let us check
Rachel, can you join me here Infront. We’re
going to check if your answers are correct.
(Call on pupil to read the word problem.)
Thank you Rachel.

How can we make sure if the polygons are

congruent?

CONGRUENT POLYGONS- that is

/ Same shape Ma’am eight
/ Same length size
/ Same interior angles Ma’am ten
Congruent shape must all be the same type of
hsape in order to fullfill the requirements. Not yet ma’am

Ma’am 4 is our final answer.

How can people or even student like you what 5
is a congruent polygon, when looking at shape?
The best way to determine whether shapes are Ma’am by reducing the fraction to its lowest
congruent is to look at the three properties of terms.
congruent polygons and check if the shape
being compared match in all three.

Let us now study the word problem.

Class, do you still remember the four steps in
solving a word problem? Ma’am she is helpful.

We are going to use and apply the same steps

in adding similar fractions. By washing our plates.

First, we need to know what is asked in the Ma’am by sweeping our floor.
given problem.
By watering our plants, ma’am!
Second, know what are given.

Then, add similar fractions by visualizing

using the fraction bars/or simply add the
numerators and write the sum over the
common denominator.

And finally, express the answer in lowest terms

if possible.

Let us start!

What is asked in the problem?

Yes Ma’am!
What are given in the problem?

Very good!
1.2 + 1=
The teacher will discuss the illustration posted 5 5
on the board that shows the part of an hour
does Flordeliza spend working on the kitchen.

In adding similar fractions, first you need to 2

add the numerator and write the sum over the 5
common denominator.
1
5+3=? 5
And what are the denominators?

so, is 8 our final answer? 2. 1 + 2 + 4 =

10 8 8 8

What is our final answer then? 1

8

What did you do to get the final answer?

Very good! 2
8
Reducing the answer to its lowest terms
whenever possible is the last step in adding
similar fraction.
4
Let’s go back to our sample word problem. 8

What kind of daughter is Flordeliza?

Nice answer!

How do you help your mother at home?

Any other answer?

Another one.
Yes Ma’am!

Very good! Helping your mother in doing

household chores is a great thing that you (Leaders will have a draw lots)
need to do always.

2. Video clips

Now, let us have another activity. I will let you

work with your group mates. Yes Ma’am!
You are going to visualize addition of similar
fraction and compute for the sum correctly.

Afterwards, post your answer on the board.

Is the direction clear?

Ok group leader, get your materials here.

Yes Ma’am!

Problem for Station 1:

Joseph and his mother bought a cake near Sto.
Domingo Church. They divided the cake into
eight equal parts. Joseph ate 1 of it. His

mother ate 2 part of the cake.
8
How many part of the cake did both of them
eat?

Problem for Station 2:

A painter bought 2 litres of green paint for the

will go around the classroom and look for your windows. How many litres of paint did he buy

solve the assigned problem for your group.
Problem for Station 3:
Is that clear class? Mrs. Parungao bought a cake for her birthday.
One pupil took 1 of the rice cake. And another

cake did both of the pupils take?
Class, I will give you ten minutes to do your
assigned task. Problem for Station 4:
Bobby played basketball for 3 hour in the hour
Write your answer in a given materials. 6
in the morning and 2 hour in the afternoon.
Is the direction clear? 6
How long did he play basketball on that day?
Group 1,2,3 and 4, using the given materials
in each station, you have to:
Yes ma’am!
 Visualize addition of similar fractions
 Compute for the sum correctly.
 Explain your answer.
(Every group will present their work.)
 Observe also on how you perform your
task with the other members of your
group.

Before you start let me discuss to you some We read the problem carefully and we follow
rules while you are doing your task. the steps in adding similar fractions.

1. Read the direction carefully.

2. Follow the direction or the assigned task.
3. Actively engage to the group mates.
4. Observe silence while doing your work. In adding similar fractions first we need to add
the numerators and write the sum over the

lowest terms if it is needed.

Ok, you may start now!

(Teacher will move around the classroom and

see to it that everyone is actively
participating/helping in the said group
activity- Math Trail)
Are you done class?

Now, let us find out and check your works.

Group 1,2,3, and 4 presentation.

Ok! Well done!

Class what did you do to solve the problem

in each station correctly?

Very Good!

D. Generalization
How do you add similar fractions?

Excellent!

E. Application
Directions: Visualize addition of similar
fraction and compute for sum correctly inside
the word problem.

Katrina spent 2 of an hour sweeping the yard

long did she work?

IV. EVALUATION
Directions: Visualize, compute the sum and express your answer in lowest terms.

V. ASSIGNMENT

Directions: Solve each problem, visualize and express the answer in lowest terms.
