Utiva's User Experience program is an immersive, project-
based learning experience, designed to transform your
skillset and launch a new career in design.

About the Curriculum

We co-created this curriculum with leading
technology companies, some of which are
high-growth technology firms that are
always hiring top designers. The curriculum
is challenging, comprehensive, and
constantly updated, ensuring you are always
learning cutting-edge UX/UI design concepts,
skills, and tools.

Training Faculty
The training is led by Educators, Coaches
and Mentors with experience in the field.
The trainers help you develop and work on a
fully-realized mobile app, in the process
building a portfolio of completed projects

The User Experience (UX) Design Certificate

Course was designed to give professionals
the skills required to improve the user
experience of their product or digital
properties. Taught by industry leaders, the
course uses a project-based learning model,
ensuring professionals gain hands-on
experience creating engaging websites
designed with the user firmly in mind.
What
You'll
Learn
1. User Experience Fundamentals – Design Thinking, Sketching, Prototyping

Ÿ Foundational methodologies of user experience design in the context of digital product design.
Ÿ Apply Design Thinking as an organizational framework and method for identifying human-centred design
opportunities, allowing you to gain first-hand experience with
Ÿ Sketch and InVision, industry-standard wireframing and prototyping tools.

How you'll apply what you learn

Working collaboratively with a complete team of product managers and designers, you'll complete a design sprint
to tackle a real-world design challenge, from conducting research to designing a potential solution.

2. Design Research and Strategy – User Research, Experience Mapping

Ÿ Impactful design stems from effective user research.

Ÿ Interview methods and approaches
Ÿ Research methods to collect insights and test assumptions.

How you'll apply what you learn

Apply your research skills by facilitating user interviews and synthesizing results to extract insights that will guide
your product decisions.

3. Information Architecture and Wireframing – Sketch, IA, Task Flows

Ÿ Different components of information architecture and learn how to organize information within digital
products.
Ÿ Importance of wireframing within the design process, using wireframing tools, methods, and resources to
complete design tasks.

How you'll apply what you learn

Build a deeper understanding of user goals and motivations, allowing findings to influence product functionality as
you create an end-to-end digital experience.

4. Prototyping and Usability Testing – InVision, Testing Methods, Conducting User Tests

Ÿ Learn how to translate static wireframes into functional prototypes, which are continuously tested to ensure
you're keeping the user at the centre of your products.
How you'll apply what you learn
Further develop your sketches and wireframes by incorporating design elements, user stories, and findings from
user testing. You will determine the layout, composition, and placement of elements that will later become a
digital interaction.

5. Applied Design Thinking – Problem Solving, Rapid Prototyping, Pitching

Ÿ You will work with a complete product team to tackle a problem and complete your second design sprint.

6. User Interface Design – Design Patterns, Typography, Colour

Ÿ Master the core principles of interaction design and understand the importance of making products both
functional and aesthetically appealing.
Ÿ Using Sketch, you will use grids, spacing, typography, and colour to create interfaces.

How you'll apply what you learn

In a team, you'll conduct a usability heuristic evaluation of an existing digital product, drawing conclusions and
suggesting improvements. You will then tackle the challenge of recreating and improving an existing application's
UI based on your usability assessment and heuristic evaluation.

7. App Design – Grids, iOS vs. Android, Motion

Ÿ Build on your user interface design skills by exploring areas beyond traditional mobile applications, including
voice design and motion design.
Ÿ Learn about the use of micro interactions and how they play a role in user experience design.

How you'll apply what you learn

Work collaboratively to build reusable design elements, styles, and symbols, creating UI elements that can be
handed off to other teams.

8. Responsive Web Design – Grids and Breakpoints, Multiplatform Design

Ÿ Learn how to effectively optimize web content for use on both desktop and mobile viewports.
Ÿ You'll also formulate a compelling brand narrative through the effective application of visual design principles.

How you'll apply what you learn

Apply the principles you've learned throughout the program to design your very own responsive product
marketing website.

9. Industry Practice – Workflow Tools, Emerging Design Challenges, Portfolio Design

Ÿ Start developing key and important skills as an emerging UX Designer. You'll also learn how to build an
impressive portfolio that showcases your projects and design abilities.

How you'll apply what you learn

The User Experience Design program final project provides you with an opportunity to synthesize your
understanding and apply the core concepts of user experience design. It will also serve as your central portfolio
piece, displaying the breadth of your new skills and experience.
Course
Curriculum
and Tools
Throughout the course, you will work towards a certificate in UX design by using the techniques and tools below to
solve real-world design problems, developing your skills and knowledge with hands-on experience.

1. User Research – Personas, Research, Interviews

Learn how to conduct interviews and create personas to understand the needs of your users, and keep them at
the centre of your design process.

How you'll apply what you learn

Conduct user research for a particular problem space, including interviewing potential users. Build a research-
backed persona to guide the design process.

2. Information Architecture – Card Sorting, Navigation, Tree Testing

Learn how to structure information in a way that is clear to your users and helps them achieve their goals.

How you'll apply what you learn

With your personas in mind, begin to structure requirements into a well-defined organizational scheme using
techniques such as card sorting.

3. Sketching and Wireframing – Sketching Tools, POP App

Sketch simple screens, develop them into wireframes, and then test basic functionality to keep the goals of your
users at the heart of your designs. Create the user interface from scratch, including defining branding, colour, and
fonts.

How you'll apply what you learn

Begin translating your solution from black and white paper sketches, into high-fidelity designs and test your
designs to get feedback and iterate throughout the process.

4. Prototyping – InVision, User Testing, Heuristics

Test the functionality of your designs with clickable prototypes in InVision that mimic a real product. Collect
actionable feedback from your users in order to further develop your designs.

How you'll apply what you learn

Translate sketches into clickable prototypes using InVision. Continue to test and refine designs before reaching a
final prototype ready to be developed.
