1. Name and Background of the Parish

A. Name of the Parish: Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish Church
B. Short Background/History of the Parish:
- The construction of this Church was jointly started by the Apostleship of
Prayer and the Proj. 4 Women's Club and continued by Rev. Fr. Melouiades
Ramos from 1961 to 1971. It was finished by Rev. Fr. Federico V. Navarro
from 1972 to 1974 with the generous cooperation of the parishioners and
friends.

The first cornerstone was laid by Mayor Norberto Amoranto on the

24th of April 1966, and was blessed and consecrated by the
Archbishop of Manila, Jaime L. Sin on the 22nd of June 1974.

On the 4th of September 1976, the Church was declared a Parish then on
October 19, 1976 the Parish was canonically erected by the Archdiocese of
Manila with Rev. Fr. Navarro as the First Parish Priest.

Due to the Filipinos’ devotion to the Immaculate Conception and the

resurgence of belief in the Miraculous Medal, a tiny chapel dedicated to
Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal was built at the corner of Agustin de
Legazpi and Casimiro “El Tulisan” Camerino streets for Project 4
neighborhood.

2. Programs of the Parish:

A. Programs:
1. Community Pantry
2. Donation Drives
3. Scholarships

B. Social Issues addressed by the Parish programs:

1. Community Pantry
- As the number of COVID cases increased, people were forced to stay at home
and unemployment rates also increased. While many are dying from the virus,
people also suffered from hunger. The community pantry was a great help for
people that cannot afford to buy food. The main social issue that this
program dealt with is not only hunger but also hopelessness. The
community pantry gave hope to the people because it made them realize that
we are in this pandemic together, even we can’t make physical contact, we can
still help each other.

2. Donation Drives
- Most of the impoverished families only rely on contract jobs or jobs that pay
average wages to pay for their everyday necessities, but as the economy
plummeted and the jobs for the masses immediately closed, the income of
every Filipino family went down too. As the pandemic’s threat looms large,
they continue to be jobless, resorting to asking for help in public. This program
dealt with the social issues regarding the marginalization of the poor and
unemployment. The Donation Drive that was started by the Parish was of
great help to the largely destitute population here in Proj. 4, Quezon City, as
they were able to assist the families to attain their needs.

3. Scholarships
- As we transition from face-to-face classes to the online setup, there are a lot
of factors to consider especially since the pandemic tanked and limited our
financial capabilities. Many students weren’t able to continue their education
since they need to help out their families to earn money in order to put food on
their table. Some students sought help online, asking for some financial
assistance from others for them to continue their education, some applied for
scholarship but was not successful in doing so. The social issues that was
addressed by this program are the budget of the students for education, the
affordability of education, and social divide. The scholarship program that
was initiated by the Parish allowed the students to gain back their confidence
and faith as they were given the assistance they needed in order to continue and
pursue their dreams.
