April 27—Musician Kevin Parker will release a new album, Currents, in July of this year.
Parker is known for his unique psychedelic tracks. Previous albums InnerSpeaker (2010) and
Lonerism (2012) immediately gained praise from critics for the evolved sound, receiving several
awards.
The three year gap since the last album has had fans waiting in anticipation.
Three tracks from the album have been released early as singles: Eventually, ‘Cause I’m a Man
and Let It Happen. These euphoric sounds have given listeners a glimpse into the creativeness of
this album to come.
The rest of the album is expected to release on July 17 on all streaming platforms (Apple Music,
Spotify, Pandora, etc.).
This album will become the essential sound of the summer. This electrifying dance-oriented
music is expected to do as well as past albums, if not better. This is a “breakup album” that
doesn’t sound anything like your typical breakup songs.
This album, like his others, is created completely by Parker himself. Currents has been written,
recorded, performed, and produced by only Parker.
This groundbreaking album will change the music industry. The untraditional take of embracing
change is something everyone should tune into.
###
The head of the “one-man-band” has created his own style of music. Though many of Parker's
songs may be created in a less-than sober environment, the music is transcendent and original.
Parker has had a passion for music from a young age from the influence of his father. He learned
to play the guitar by accompanying his dad as a hobby.
At the age of 18, Parker was already performing for crowds in a “pub scene.” Many of the songs
he performed in his early stages of music were based around his unstable family life and feelings
of loneliness.
Modular Recordings contacted Parker as he was on his way to an exam asking to sign him onto
their label. Mid-drive, Parker turned the car around and decided to start writing songs.
Parker suffers from an enormous amount of self-doubt, even thinking his album, Lonerism,
sucked at the time it was released.
Though he can rarely explain what the songs mean to him, he finds all of his songs to be special.
His father was extremely influential to him. Unfortunately he passed from cancer while Parker
was working on developing his first album. This situation had a massive effect on Parker's ability
to write music and it even affected many of his songs.
Since then, Parker has released two albums, InnerSpeaker and Lonerism. His third will be
released in July of 2023, Currents. While creating albums, he’s also busy producing songs for
other artists. Some of these include: Lady Gaga, Travis Scott and Kanye West.
Parker started his musical career by making music for himself to feel better. In a short time span,
his passions began to spread to others and now his music is extremely influential in others lives
as well.
Parker feared his love of music losing its spark if making it a job. Good thing he didn’t stick to
those beliefs.
