PASSIVE VOICE

SUBJECT + TO BE + PAST PARTICIPLE


Simple present
The house is cleaned every day.
Present continuous
The house is being cleaned at the moment.
Simple past
The house was cleaned yesterday.
Past continuous
The house was being cleaned last week.
Present perfect
The house has been cleaned since you left.
Past perfect
The house had been cleaned before they arrived.
Simple future
The house will be cleaned next week.
Future continuous
The house will be being cleaned tomorrow.
Present conditional
The house would be cleaned if they had visitors.
Past conditional
The house would have been cleaned if it had been dirty.

ACTIVE PASSIVE
Simple present
SUBJECT +TO BE (am, is, are) + PAST PARTICIPLE

They build a house. A house is built.

They are teaching the children. The children are being taught.

Simple future
SUBJECT + WILL BE + PAST PARTICIPLE
SUBJECT + GOING TO + PAST PARTICIPLE

They are going to write a book. A book is going to be written.
Nobody will switch on the radio. The radio won’t be switched on.
They will do the work. The work will be done.

Future continuous
SUBJECT + WILL BE BEING + PAST PARTICIPLE
When you come home I will be washing the dishes. The dishes will be being washed when you come home.
When I arrive they will be watering the plant. The plant will be being watered when I arrive.

Future perfect simple


SUBJECT + WILL HAVE BEEN + PAST NPARTICIPLE
I shall have washed the dishes by the time you come The dishes will have been washed by the time you come

Present perfect
SUBJECT + HAVE/HAS BEEN + PAST PARTICIPLE

Past perfect

INFINITIVE
She has to deliver the letters. The letters have to be delivered.

MODAL VERBS
They must repair the car. The car must be repaired.
They can eat the cake. The cake can be eaten.

VERBS WITH PREPOSITION IN PASSIVE
