The Home tab is the default tab in Microsoft Word. It has five groups of related commands;
Clipboard, Font, Paragraph, Styles and Editing. It helps you change document settings like font
size, adding bullets, adjusting styles and many other common features.
1.1.2 CLIPBOARD
A small board with a spring clip at the top, used for holding papers and providing support for
writing. A temporary storage area where material cut or copied from a file is kept
for passing into another file.
1.1.3 FONT
A font is a graphical representation of text that may include a different typeface, point size,
weight, color, or design.
1.1.4 PARAGRAPH
In word processing and text editing, a paragraph is a collection of words and sentences that
contain an end-of-line character (return, line feed or both) at the end. From the viewpoint of the
software, even a single word followed by a return is a paragraph.
1.1.5 STYLE

Insert is a file menu and Ribbon section in software that allows the user to add something (e.g.,
picture) into a document.
1.2.1 PAGE
A page, memory page, or virtual page is a fixed-length contiguous block of virtual memory,
described by a single entry in the page table. It is the smallest unit of data for memory
management in a virtual memory operating system.
1.2.2 TABLE
A table in computer programming is a data structure used to organize information, just as it is on
paper. There are many different types of computer-related tables that work in a number of
different ways. Which type of table is used depends on the type of data being compiled and what
type of analysis is needed.
1.2.3 ILLUSTRATION
Digital illustration or computer illustration is the use of digital tools to produce images under the
direct manipulation of the artist, usually through a pointing device such as a graphics tablet or,
less commonly, a mouse.
1.2.4 LINKS
In a website, a hyperlink (or link) is an item like a word or button that points to another location.
When you click on a link, the link will take you to the target of the link, which may be a
webpage, document or other online content. Websites use hyperlinks as a way to navigate online
content.
1.2.5 COMMENT
In computer programming, a comment is a programmer-readable explanation or annotation in the
source code of a computer program. They are added with the purpose of making the source code
easier for humans to understand, and are generally ignored by compilers and interpreters.
1.2.6 TEXT
In general, text is a collection of words or letters that are understandable by the reader. On a
computer, text is added, viewed, edited, and modified using a text editor or word processing
program. To add text, a keyboard is the most common input device.
2
1.2.7 SYMBOLS
A symbol in computer programming is a primitive data type whose instances have a unique
human readable form. Symbols can be used as identifiers. In some programming languages, they
are called atoms.
1.3 DESIGN
Design is the structure in which components relate to each other. The designer deals with a
particular level of system at a time and there are different types of issues at different levels. At
each level, the designer is concerned with the structure and function.
1.3.1 COLORS
Computers typically display color in three components - red, green, and blue. When combined,
these three colors make the full-color image seen in the upper left of this image. By controlling
color display, we can simulate on the computer different kinds of color blindness.
1.3.2 FONTS
A font is the way the typeface is presented, taking into consideration the size and style. A group
of fonts including bold and italic variations is known as a font family.
1.3.3 PAGE BACKGROUND
By default, Word uses a white background color, but you can change the page color in Word to
anything you want. In fact, you can even change the background of a page to a pattern, texture,
image, or gradient. Here's everything you need to know about how to change the background
color of pages in Microsoft Word.
1.4 LAYOUT
In computing, layout is the process of calculating the position of objects in space subject to
various constraints. This functionality can be part of an application or packaged as a reusable
component or library.
3
1.4.2 PARAGRAPH
In word processing and text editing, a paragraph is a collection of words and sentences that
contain an end-of-line character (return, line feed or both) at the end. From the viewpoint of the
software, even a single word followed by a return is a paragraph.
1.4.3 ARRANGE
To put into a proper order or into a correct or suitable sequence, relationship, or adjustment
1.5 REFERENCES
In computer programming, a reference is a value that enables a program to indirectly access a
particular data, such as a variable's value or a record, in the computer's memory or in some other
storage device. The reference is said to refer to the datum, and accessing the datum is called
dereferencing the reference.
4
1.6 MAILINGS
A mailing list is a collection of email addresses to which you send information and updates. Such
a list consists of a specific group.
1.6.1 CREATE
In general, create refers to making something new. Below are some commonly requested pages
that relate to creating files, folders, and other objects on a computer. Tip. If you have a file that
already exists, but want to make changes to that file, you would be editing and not creating.
1.6.2 START MAIL MERGE
Mail Merge is a handy feature that incorporates data from both Microsoft Word and Microsoft
Excel and allows you to create multiple documents at once, such as letters, saving you the time
and effort of retyping the same letter over and over.
1.6.3 WRITE AND INSERT FIELDS
The Address Block & Greeting Line allows the user to apply Word's templates, where the Insert
Merge Field icon allows the user to customize the fields that are inserted into Word.
1.6.4 PREVIEW RESULTS
Preview is a computing function to display a document, page, or film before it is produced in its

includes checking Proofing is the process of checking for errors in a document. In MS spelling,
grammar, punctuation, style and formatting.
1.7.2 ACCESSIBILITY
Computer accessibility refers to the accessibility of a computer system to all people,
regardless of disability type or severity of impairment.
1.7.3 LANGUAGE
A computer language is a formal language used to communicate with a computer. Types of
computer languages include: Construction language – all forms of communication by which a
human can specify an executable problem solution to a computer.
1.7.4 COMMENTS
In computer programming, a comment is a programmer-readable explanation or annotation in the
source code of a computer program. They are added with the purpose of making the source code
easier for humans to understand, and are generally ignored by compilers and interpreters.
1.7.5 TRACKING
Tracking is used to expand or contract the amount of text on a page by expanding or reducing the
amount of space between letters. It differs from kerning in that it is applied to an entire font or to
a range of text, whereas kerning refers to certain letter pairs.
1.7.6 CHANGES
Change is basically a variation in the common way of doing things. Whenever people perform a
task in a certain way, they get accustomed to them. They develop methods which they can
implement routinely to achieve these tasks. Any variation in these methods is nothing but
change.
1.7.7 COMPARE
The process of examining the similarities or differences of data or files and then listing them.
Comparing files or text is an easy way of finding all changes between two different files.
1.7.8 PROTECT
Concerning computers, the terms protect, protector, protected, protecting, and protection all involve the
prevention of harm, the overwriting of data, or the deletion of files. For example, write-protecting a
document prevents another user from adding to or deleting wording from it.
1.7.9 INK
Ink is a mode that converts handwritten text to an object or image instead of attempting to
convert it to text. This mode is helpful for when you don't want something converted such as a
signature. Below is an example of how this could look. Inkjet printer, Printer terms.
