CIE 3102 BASIC STRUCTURAL STEEL DESIGN [3 1 0 4]

Course Objectives:
1. To assess and understand the use of structural steel and its importance in various
civil engineering structures.
2. To understand and design by limit state method various structural elements to
resist bending, compression, tension and shear by using relevant code of practice.
3. To understand and design by limit state method - connections in simple
configurations.

Course Outcome:
1. Student should be able to assess the use of structural steel and its importance in
various civil engineering structures.
2. Student should be able to design by limit state method various structural elements
to resist bending, compression, tension and shear by using relevant code of
practice ( emphasize on IS 800 -2007)
3. Students should be able to undertake the design by limit state method of
connections in simple configurations.
