This Story happen in a village, that is a small town.
When live Humphrey Partridge with his old
mother, which was 86 years old. One day, Reg Carter, the postman, gave him a package of roses, then he will plant it in his garden. The postman and others neighbors like Mr and Mrs Denton (the shopkeeper) asked him about his mother, specially how was she, and Humphrey always answered the same, that she was good against her age. Mrs Denton had invited him to a meeting but Humphrey said her that he must take care of his mother. After that he took the train to go to work. The marriage Denton told that he was talking about going to live in Canada. Now, all the village knew it. When Partridge arrived to his work, his employer, Mr Brownlow, wanted talk with him. Mr Brownlow told him that he must go to Antwerp on Monday for the meeting, because he had travel to Rome. But Humphrey said him that he couldn`t. Mr Brownlow was annoyed for that. After that Humphrey went to home. On Monday morning, Humphrey was preparing the breakfast. His cooker was old but it still worked well. Then, the postman Reg Carter, arrived with other package. It contended information about Canada. He opened the letter. Humphrey had won a large sum of money in a competition. Later, in his job, he told Mr Brownlow that he leaves it. Because he moved to Canada whit his mother. So, he had telephoned a man to buy a house, and completed some forms necessary to live there. Already in his house, he saw Reg Carter (postman) in his kitchen. He was there because had happened a fire. It happened because Humphrey forgot to turn the cooker off. The postman called the police and explained it all to Sargent Wallace. Reg Carter discovered that there wasn´t one there. The house was empty. After, Humphrey told him that his mother was died. A week after, all the village knew about this, and Sargent Wallace went to talk to Partridge. Because he had heard a lot of strange stories about him. He had done some questions to Humphrey and told him that the people suppose that he killed her mother to get her money. Humphrey said this wasn´t truth. Sargent Wallace asked him a few questions. And Humphrey confessed that he hasn´t a mother. His mother left him when he was six months old. He grew up in a children´s home. He always had lived alone; he hates the people. The people ask questions, are curious. That´s why he had invented her. It was a excuse to stay him at home. Then, Sargent Wallace noticed the garden was digging. It seemed him suspect. After that, Humphrey had been put in prison. The police had dug the garden but they hadn´t found the body. So, Humphrey was released. He continued preparing for his move to Canada. Later, his true mother appeared. She lived in Liverpool. She was interested in the large sum of money that Humphrey had won. She knew this for the newspapers. She went to his house. First, Humphrey couldn´t recognize her. But then, he could. He told her that she wasn´t his mother, and that his mother was beautiful and kind. Shaking her. Then, he put his hands to her neck, and woman´s body fell to the floor. She was died. The next day, he went the police station and confessed his crime. But the Sargent Wallace didn´t believe him. Because, Sargent Wallace though he was crazy. So, Humphrey went to Canada.
