This document provides instructions for using Tricore boot to summarize passwords, unlock files, and program MPPS container files for ECU tuning. The key steps are to connect the ECU and TPSG device, open the Tricore application, read passwords if needed, unlock files for tuning, load special files for the ECU, and program container files using MPPS for returning the ECU to standard or recovering a dead ECU. Special options are available for PCR2.1 and Simos 8x ECUs as well.

Step 2. Check you have connected your ecu correctly.
Step 3. Open the Tricore application.
Press ID Micro, this will ID your micro and tell you
if you need to read the password. In this case you will have to read the password first.
In this case you do not need to read the password
as the program has already found it for you. Reading a password.
To read a Password you must first select from the
Normal operation drop down box and select the type of password to read. Es: TP8 to TP12, BMW TP8 to TP10 or Bosch service mode.
If you have to read a password with Bosch service
mode you must have the S1 and S2 pins connected. Some ecu’s also need 4 can lines connected.
There is no need to disconnect boot or CFG pins,
as TPSG will select the pins needed.
Press the Password button that is enabled in the
Normal Operations section. This will start the procedure of reading the password. Once the password has been read you must save the file with a name of your choice. You can now load this using the Load Pw button.
You will now be asked for the password file you
saved. Press Load to load the file. If the password is the correct one the dialogue box will tell you. Once loaded press close.
The program will now ID the ecu using the
password you loaded.
You can now proceed to make a full backup of the
ecu, and read or write the selected memories.
Unlock for OBD tuning.
First select the Unlock button, you will then get a new dialogue box.
Open the file you want to unlock.
Select the check DS type button this will tell you if you need to unlock this file or it is not necessary. If the file needs unlocking you will get this on the dialogue.
You will then have the unlock button enabled.
Select this to unlock the file. The file is now unlocked for OBD tuning. You can now save the file with the desired name.
Program the file into the ecu in boot mode.
You will then be able to write this after in OBD.
Using the Special button.
This will open a new dialogue box.
From here you select the FRF or SGO file you need for the ecu you are working with. Once you have loaded the file it will automaticly save a MPPS container file for you. This can be used to return the ecu to standard or recover a dead ecu.
In the info box the program will tell you where the file has been saved.
Based on the file you have loaded you will be given
other options. Select the option for the job you are doing. Saving the bin file could be useful for those ecu that cannot be read over OBD.
To program a MPPS container file you must close
Tricore boot, Run MPPS from the Make selection drop down box select Generic, from the Model selection drop down box select Tricore.
Based on the ecu you have you select the protocol
between UDS or CAN TP2.0. You can now write your OBD container file.
PCR2.1 and Simos 8x ecus.
From the Special drop down box select PCR2.1 or Simos 8x, depending on your ecu.
Make sure you have the ecu connected to TPSG and
the boot and CFG pins connected correctly. Press ID Micro, this will give you information for your ecu. You will then get the Lock/Unlock button enabled. Press this button only once. If the ecu is unlocked it will be locked, if it is locked it will be unlocked. You can now read and write the ecu on the bench or in the car using the appropriate protocols in MPPS.
