Concept of Gas Regulator
A pressure regulator is a valve that automatically cuts off the flow of a liquid or gas at a certain pressure.
Regulators are used to allow high-pressure fluid supply lines or tanks to be reduced to safe and/or usable
pressures for various applications.
Gas pressure regulators are used to regulate gas pressure and are not used for measuring flow rates

The kind of regulator classified by Pressure range


SINGLE STAGE REDUCING
These regulator, as a one-stage pressure-reduction type of regulators, are designed to regulate the pressure
for a proper combustion by reducing the pressure in one stage.
This regulator reduces pressure range 0.07~1.56 MPa to 2.3~30 kPa)

2ND TWO STAGE REDUCING SYSTEM REGULATOR


These regulator are attaced to the secondary part of two-stage pressure
pressure-reducing type of 2nd stage regulator, they are designed to reduce the Inlet pressure to a proper
combustion pressure.

AUTOMATIC CHANGE OVER PRESSURE REGULATOR (Middle low pressure)


It is one of our commonly use regulators. It is feasible for use more than one LPG gas cylinder at the same
time by equipped unitized changeover function with 2nd stage1st reduction regulator and 2nd stage 2nd
reduction regulator in one body. Once the one gas cylinder has run out of gas, the regulator makes
automatically changeover to another cylinder to supply gas at stabilized pressure rate without stop supplying
of gas.

AUTOMATIC CHANEOVER PRESSURE REGULATOR (UNITED TYPE)


The regulator which automatically executes changeover function from the service side to reserve side for two
separate LPG supply lines. Service side gas is empty, indicastor marked red color and reserve side gas is
inflow automatically to burner.
This type is integrated first& second stage pressure reducing portion.
This regulator reduces pressure range 0.1~1.56 Map to 0.057~0.083 MPa (First Reduction) and again reduce it
to 2.5~30 kPa (Second reduction) .

AUTOMATIC CHANEOVER PRESSURE REGULATOR (SEPARATE TYPE)


Two stage reduction system combine with a first-stage and second stage depressurizing regulator in the same
body, called a integration automatic changeover regulator. The other one is called as a separation automatic
changeover regulator which is two stage regulator separated in first and second stage regulators which
combined by each parts. Those are especially suitable for homes, mobile homes, cottages, construction. and
other portable two cylinders installation. Empty containers may be replaced without interrupting customer’
s gas
service.

Hwa Young’ s single system regulator is optimized for single system of LP gas system.
Generally, it can be used with connecting directly to the low capacity gas cylinder or pipe and reduce pressure properly.
The application is for cooking at residence and low capacity heating and outdoor appliances with convenient at all time.

Hwa Young’ s single system Regulator is designed for satisfied with quick response and proper pressure to supply of gas.
The regulator works with inlet pressure range (0.07 MPa~1.56 MPa) and outlet pressure range (2.3~33 kPa)
If the pressure is excessive than the setting pressure, the equipped internal relief valve operates to maintain the pressure for safety.

Use for 2ND 1Stage
Manual

HYRM Series Regulator is for the second stage first reduction system that reduces pressure range 14.2~221.52 Psi (0.1~1.56 Mpa)
to 0.057~0.25 MPa.
This reduced pressure range enable to use second reduction regulator in order to reduce the pressure for proper use of
commercial or industrial application.

The regulator are the integrated device of automatic knotting body portion and the scondary regulator.By reducing pressure of
vessel pressure at the automatic knotting body portion for the first time (0.32~0.5 Bar) and reducing pressure to the using
pressure at the secondary regulator (0.57~0.83 Bar), the 2 stage reducing pressure method to adjust to appropriate combustion
pressure in integrated.

The regulator are type that the primary automatic changeover part of the integrated automatic changeover regulator is separated.
Therefore, it must be combined with the 2nd stage regulator for use. (Outlet pressure range : 0.32~0.83 Bar)

The regulator are attached to the secondary part of two-stage pressure -reducing type of 2nd stage regulator, they are designed
to reduce the inlet pressure of 0.05~4 Bar (0.25~0.4 MPa) to a proper combustion pressure.

How to Use

When it is used as first stage for 2ND reduction system, It should be


checked if the inlet pressure is mached with regulator's
specification.

At the condition with full of pressure for both gas cylinders, one
cylinder can be selected by rotating changeover lever.
The direction that appointed by lever end is the supplying
cylinder and another one is reserve side.

Caution

● All vents should be kept open to permit free flow of gas to the atmosphere. Protect openings against entrance of rain, snow, insects or any
other foreign materials that may get into vent or vent line.
● Before installing the regulator, check the damage which might have occurred in shipment. Also check for dirt or foreign matter which may
have accumulated in the regulator body or in the pipelines. Please check the product in appearances before installation, Failure of product
may cause of hazardous condition.
● Please be aware of that a possibility of foreign substances plug into a regulator, eliminate all unnecessary materials before installation
● Apply pipe compound to the external threads of the pipeline due to prevention of leakage.
WARNING: Without examining a gas leakage, There are high potential explosions and hazardous condition.
● A gas flow should follow the direction of the arrow cast on the body.
● The proper regulator must be used depending on gas allowable inlet and outlet pressure.
● Foreign material lodging between the regulator nozzle and seat disc: When this occurs, the regulator can remain open, allowing high
pressure gas into the system. This material can come from system piping between the container shutoff valve and the regulator. Chips
created during piping installation or dirty piping can create this hazard. Corrosion inside of copper pigtails and piping can cause problems.
This can occur particularly when gas contains high sulfur or excessive moisture. Therefore, Ensure regulator inlet piping is clean at the time
of installation. Periodic inspection should be made to assure piping remains clean without corrosion. Never use old pigtails on new LP-Gas
installations. Old pigtails can also work harden and crack if they have been bent and twisted several times. Also, Avoid uses of inferior
gases. Unless, recommend using a gas filter to maintain performance.

Installation

● The regulator should be installed by qualified and trained technician


● DO NOT install a regulator where flammable materials are loaded or near radiant heat
● Avoid installation where a regulator exposed to salt air, industrial poison, or chemically effective environment. .
● Connecting inlet to a high pressure hose or vent pipe, it should remains balance vertically. Wrongful piping connections occurred at the time
of installation where connections are loose or the regulator may have been overstressed by excessive wrenching
● Use PTFE (Teflon) or flame retardant vent glue on the screw threads, it helps to prevent loose, gas leakage. At the time of installation,
be aware of foreign materials would be inserted.
● Remove scraps, dust, any foreign substances and clean cutting fluid out when connecting unit to a vent pipe..
● Install a gas drain from regulator outlet to a gas meter.
● Regulators should be installed with the vent facing down or protected so their operation .
● Check if the vent is not facing towards sky. If it is facing towards sky, snow, rain, heavy wind, and leaves can be influx to inside of vent to
cause stopping of regulator. Therefore, the vent should be checked regularly if there is any foreign material inside and frozen after rain or
snow when winter season. If there is corrosion or damage on exterior, recommend for replacing to new regulator, and also, in case of
regulator that had been exceeded the guaranteed period, recommend for replacing to new regulator because worn out diaphragm or
corrosion on inside parts can cause safety issue.
● After installation the leakage test must be carried out based on LP gas safety policy.
● Get rid of all air out of pipe after checking if there is no flammables around.
● Under consumption of gas condition, close the valve of cylinder and check the indicator if it is red and automatically being supplied gas
from reserved cylinder.

● Under consumption of gas condition, close the valve of cylinder and check the indicator if it is red and

Maintenance

»Without separating a opening regulator cover from a gas cylinder, spark or ignition causes serious personal
injuries or explosion. When maintenance required, Ensure separation of gas cylinder, release gas from the regulator
to avoid hazardous condition.
Inspection of corrosion by natural environment should follow instruction as follow

A casual inspection for corrosion can be made by examining the surface and looking into the bonnet after the
bonnet cap has been removed. This sometimes will alert the inspector to corrosive conditions. Certainly, the
regulator should be examined in more detail by a qualified and trained technician. For single stage, second stage
and twin stage regulators remove the bonnet cap and examine the inside of the bonnet with a strong flashlight. For
first stage regulators that have a bonnet cap, shut down the system, remove the bonnet cap and spring and
examine the inside of the bonnet with a strong flashlight. After the inspection, the regulator must be adjusted to the
proper pressure.
Please note that if there is any inner corrosion has been occurred, replace a new regulator to avoid further
problem.

Automatic Changeover regulators prevent gas outages by switching supply cylinders over to the reserve cylinder automatically when the
primary cylinder is near empty. When the primary cylinder is depleted causing the changeover to occur a red indicator will appear signifying
the reserve cylinder in now in use and the primary cylinder can be refilled without loss of service.
Reduced the daamge from the deterioration by metal abrasion, even though use valve often frequencies.
This regulator equipped convert handle which indicates“serve” and“reserve”and diaphragm operation would help adjusting demand pressure.
This compact designed for especially space limitation, and light weight helps to easier installation.

● The regulator should be installed by qualified and trained technician


● THIS PRODUCT is MADE FOR USING LP-GAS ONLY. Do not use other than LP gas. Unless it can degrade original performance down
● This product is accurate assembled and set so that NEVER disassemble or modified without a professionally trainer’ s permission. Prior
installing the regulator, check the damage which might have occurred in shipment. Also check for dirt or foreign matter which may have
accumulated in the regulator body or in the pipelines. Please check the product in appearances before installation, Failure of product may
cause of hazardous condition.
● Incase of installing indoor, a regulator must avoid rain, snow, or direct sunlight. Set appropriate protection where a product can be expose
long period of time from sunlight and water. indoor installation must be considered proper ventilation system.
● DO NOT install a regulator where flammable materials are loaded or near radiant heat.
● Avoid installation at a place where can be affected on regulator from suspectible gas such as ammonia (NH3), sulfurous acid gas (SO2) etc.
● Connecting inlet to a pigtail or vent pipe, it should remains balance vertically.
● Inappropriate
piping connection can occur at the time of installation when connected loosely or the regulator may have been overstressed
by excessive wrenching.

● Screw threads of inlet should be connected with an exclusive adaptor.


● Use PTFE (Teflon) or flame retardant vent glue on the screw threads, it helps to prevent loose, gas leakage.
● At the time of installation, be aware of foreign materials would be inserted.
● Remove scraps, dust, any foreign substances and clean cutting fluid out when connecting unit to a vent pipe.
● Install a gas drain from regulator outlet to a gas meter.
● Regulators should be installed with the vent facing down or protected so their operation will not be affected by the natural elements.
● Before installing the regulator, check the damage which might have occurred in shipment. Also check for dirt or foreign

HYR2-815 regulator

Structure & Feature


1. HYR series regulator (spring operating type) could adjust outlet pressure easily with controlling spring load by adjusting
screw or changing other springs having different pressure range.
2. Installation, maintain etc is very easy because Body (or Head), Regulating case and OPSO (Over Pressure Shut Off) are
assembled with flange type by connecting thread. And, Orifice , Valve seat ,Regulating case, OPSO (Over Pressure Shut
Off)replacement is possible without disconnection of pipe and regulator body (head) .
3. HYR Series Regulator could choice Orifice according to first stage pressure of inlet part and using capacity. Also, easily
can replace Orifice according to using pressure and capacity.
4. HYR Series Regulator built-in Relief valve and prevent accident in case of outlet pressure increasing by attaching OPSO (Over
Pressure Shut Off).
5. It’s possible both verticality and horizontality installation. So, it is convenience to install pipe.
6. Inside construction of body (or Head) have outlet style considering Venturi effect. So, capacity loss is reduced maximally
when gas is flowing.

Operation
1. Regulator have three function. One is constant supply pressure function. Another is adjusting supply pressure. The third is
lock-up function.
2. Diaphragm movement due to inside pressure is delivered to valve by connecting lever. So, according to using gas volume,
body orifice is opened and closed. At this time, adjusted pressure is keeping balance with spring loading pressure.
3. During operation, outlet pressure is higher thank adjusted pressure, diaphragm move to upward connected valve is closed.
And then, outlet pressure is reduced until reach to spring opening force pressure.
4. Other material inflow to inside valve or damaged valve, outlet pressure is increased continually. At this time, it work relief
valve or OPSO (Over Pressure Shut Off) and prevent second stage pressure increasing or gas supply is cut off.

Safety Device
OPSO (Over Pressure Shut Off)
1. Function
OPSO is automatically operated when outlet pressure is increasing to OPSO setting pressure and gas supply is cut off.
Shut off pressure setting is manufacturer option. But, it can be adjusted according to client demand or installation site.
2. Operation
Inside of OPSO device is included Diaphragm. When outlet pressure is increased, this pressure is delivered to OPSO inside.
Due to this pressure, Diaphragm is moved to up. And this pressure is reach to setting pressure, release valve disc arm. By
releasing valve disc arm, shut off spring and valve disc move to forward and closing lower part of body orifice. And then,
gas supply is cut off.

1. Due to abnormal second stage pressure increasing, inlet parts gas supply is cut off (Fig 1=>2=>3)
2. Close inlet part valve and purge second stage pressure.
3. Inspect abnormal pressure increasing reason and settle.
4. Open the Cap of OPSO Valve disc arm (Refer to Fig 4).
5. Grab Arm Knob part and pull until hear certain sound (this is to reset).
6. After re-setting, close cap of arm and fasten lightly by wrench or spanner etc.
7. To supply pressure, slowly open inlet part and must to check regulator function is normal.

Internal Relief Valve


When second stage outlet pressure is increased, relief valve is operated,. And then, over pressure is released. So, installer
must to make relief vent line.

815 Series Regulator

Regulator abnormality cause and settlement


1. Second stage outlet Cause
pressure is drop 1. Orifice size is small against to using capacity
2. Gas supply interrupted due to block gas filter
3. Diaphragm is expended due to long time using
4. OPSO is locked up.

Settlement
1. Replace suitable orifice according to using capacity
2. Disassembly gas filter and cleaning inside
3. Disassembly case and replace diaphragm
4. Block inlet & outlet valve and release gas. And then, Reset OPSO.

2. Second stage outlet Cause


pressure is incresing 1. Lock-up condition is bad due to valve seat or orifice wear, crack etc
2. First stage inlet pressure is applied toward OPSO because of OPSO shaft O-ring damage.
3. Assembly lever linked diaphragm operation is not good.
4. Volume changing is happen due to temperature with exposure pipe system.
5. First stage inlet pressure is applied due to orifice sealing condition.

Settlement
1. Disconnection case from pipe and replace valve seat orifice.
2. Disconnection OPSO from pipe and replace shaft O-ring.
3. Disassembly warm the expose pipe.
4. Keeping warm the expose pipe.
5. Re-assembly orifice sealing materials.

3. In case of regulator Cause


hunting 1. Orifice size is too much big against to capacity and pressure
2. First stage pressure is unstable
3. Assembly level linked diaphragm operation is not good.
4. Inflow contamination materials or humidity to inside of second stage pipe
5. Large volume of gas is instantaneously & repeatedly flow and cut off

Settlement
1. Replace suitable orifice according to using capacity and pressure
2. Disassembly and inspect filter
3. Remove inside of contamination material or humidity
4. Disassembly case and inspect and then replace spring and diaphragm
5. Secure sufficient second stage pipe volume

HN Series high capacity regultor


The HN Series Regulator is spring operational
model that can adjust the spring force by
adjusting bolt or replacing spring to change
outlet pressure. It is possible to control gas
flow precisely by balance diaphragm which
equipped at inlet side in order to reduces
incoming pressure.

Operating principle
The range of position of control member depend from actuator assembly(spring-stem-diaphragm) movements.
The diaphragm divides the regulator control head into two chambers.
The lower chambers is connected to regulated pressure Pa, and the other, where the spring regulator is located, is connected
to stmoshperic pressure. When the contrasting actions of the spring and outlet pressure coincide, the diaphragm-stem valve
assembly remains motionless, and the outlet pressure matches spring set point.
An increase in capacity demand will cause a decrease in outlet pressure. This means that the spring’s action will prevail
over outlet pressure’s action, and the valve will open until set point pressure is again reached at outlet. The opposite occurs
whenever outlet pressure increases.
Precision perfect balancing of control member is assured under all operating conditions by the inlet pressure which operates
in the counterbalancing chamber.

CHECK POINT WHEN INSTALLATION


Installation
for proper performance, it is recommended to install a filter upstream of the regulator. Proceed as follows for
proper installation

1. Make sure unite has not been damaged in shipment


2. Clean and beed pipes of any foreign materials.
3. Ensure pipes can bear regulator’s weight. If not, appropriate action should be made.
4. Make sure that regulator is mounted in flow direction as show at the arrow indicated on its body.

CHECK POINT BEFORE OPERATION


1. Check that gas flow speed in the control connection permitted section of the pipe is less than forty meters
per second.
2. For horizontal pipes, control connections should be linked up as figure 2. (However, vertical pipes do not
required any particular link-up configuration)
3. This model requires a link-up should be made downstream of regulator with exthernal impulse connection.
4. Regulator control is needed to be connected with sensing port line. The brass pipe which is provided with
regulator, 8mm ring fitting, or currently used fitting can be used. (Connection size is PT 1/4B.)

Control & Option connection


While HN serious regulators are classified as “prompt response” types, a properly sized amount of gas must
be present between the regulator and combostor when ON-OFF feeed control is employed. This will reduce the
pressure peaks due to sudden swings in capacity.
Especially for low-pressure utilities, gas should be at least 1/1000 of capacity as expressed.
