Configuration
Overview
Both the SONOS PC and SONOS system must be configured for the customer’s use.
Network configuration procedures require information from the Network Installation
Worksheet.
This section of the manual comprises the following topics:
• “D Model SONOS PC Configuration” on page 2 includes the procedures required for
all D model SONOS PCs. These are all that are needed if the D model will not commu-
nicate over a network.
• “IDI Configuration” on page 4 is an overview of configuring for network communica-
tion (the Integrated Digital Interface, or IDI function).
• “Logging On to the SONOS PC” on page 6 explains how to log on to the SONOS PC to
configure it.
• “Configuring SONOS PC For Network Communication” on page 10 contains the pro-
cedures that configure the PC for IDI.
• “Opening the Network Utility Summary Screen” on page 26 explains how to open a
screen that is used frequently in the configurations.
• “Configuring for DICOM” on page 28 contains the procedures that configure the
SONOS system and SONOS PC for communication over a DICOM network.
• “Configuring SONOS for DICOM Storage” on page 34 contains the procedures that
configure the system for DICOM Storage operations.
• “Configuring SONOS PC for DICOM Storage Commit” on page 39 contains the proce-
dures that configure the system for DICOM SC operations.
• “Configuring SONOS for DICOM Modality Worklist” on page 42 contains the proce-
dures that configure the system for DICOM MWL operations.
• “Configuring SONOS PC for DICOM Modality Performed Procedure Step” on page 46
contains the procedures that configure the system for DICOM MPPS operations.
• “Configuring for DICOM Print” on page 49 contains the procedures that configure the
system for DICOM Print operations.
• “Configuring For EnConcert” on page 53 contains the procedures that configure the
system for EnConcert DSR-Tiff communications.
• “Configuring the pcAnywhere Connection on a PC” on page 72 explains how to config-
ure the pcAnywhere program on a separate PC, for configuring and testing the SONOS
PC.
• “Configuring pcAnywhere V. 10.5 on the SONOS PC” on page 73 includes the config-
uration parameters of pcAnywhere on the SONOS PC. These parameters are set auto-
matically when the system software is installed, and are included here only to allow
confirmation when troubleshooting.
• “Checking and Correcting Drive Letter Assignments” on page 78 explains how to
check and correct drive letter assignments

IDI Configuration
Preparing the SONOS PC for IDI operations involves three tasks:
• Logging on to the SONOS PC from a PC. (page 5)
• Configuring the SONOS PC for network communication. (page 10)
• Configuring the SONOS PC for one of two types of output:
• DICOM (page 28)
• EnConcert (page 55)
If a registry backup already exists for the customer, the SONOS PC configuration data can be
restored using the RST Registry backup/restore utility. See “Backing Up the SONOS PC
Configuration” on page 151.
Configuration requires information supplied by the site Network Administrator. This
information must be entered on the Network Installation Worksheet.

Network
Configuration Using SONOS Commands
Each SONOS PC installation that communicates over a network requires configuring the
ultrasound system and the SONOS PC, using SONOS system commands entered with the
system keyboard. System commands are explained in Section 6, “SONOS System
Commands”. Configuration also uses information from the Network Installation Worksheet.
NOTES
• The Network Interface (NI) option must be enabled before SONOS PC can be used for
network communication. For DICOM, the appropriate options (DICOM Print [DP],
DICOM Storage [DS], Advanced DICOM [DM]) must also be enabled.
• All SONOS DICOM options must be disabled for SONOS PC to send DSR-TIFF format
images to EnConcert.

Configuration
Logging On to the SONOS PC
NOTE Some configuration procedures cannot be performed when using a crossover cable.
NOTE You can also force the SONOS system monitor to show the PC’s display, so that you do not
need a separate monitor. The following procedure works on SONOS 7500 and some SONOS
5500 systems.
6
Configuration
Logging On to the SONOS PC
1. Press Test .
NOTE You cannot join a domain while using a crossover cable, but the method is useful for
troubleshooting.
7
Configuration
Logging On to the SONOS PC
6. Enter “DUNEUSER” in both the Username: and Password: fields. The password must
be uppercase.
The remote PC displays the SONOS PC’s Windows screen, overlaid on its own.
7. Log on to the SONOS PC by clicking the CAD button on the pcAnywhere toolbar (see
Figure 6).

NOTE Although the Begin Logon message box says “Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to log on,” DO NOT
press Ctrl-Alt-Del. Doing so will not log you on.
Log on by clicking the CAD button on the pcAnywhere toolbar. Clicking the CAD button
sends the appropriate command to the SONOS PC.
8. Type “DUNEUSER” (all capital letters) in both the Username: and Password: fields, and
click OK.
NOTES
• Always log on as DUNEUSER or DOMAIN/DUNEUSER. If you log on as something else,
the system may not automatically send studies when used for portable exams.
• Installing the SONOS PC software using the ghost image process automatically loads the
DUNEUSER and Administrator accounts.
NOTE If an error message indicates an unsuccessful logon, press Caps Lock and type
DUNEUSER in the User name: and Password: fields again.
9. If only one Start menu task bar appears at the bottom of the pcAnywhere window, click
the resizing button on the pcAnywhere menu bar, then click the Full Screen button on the
pcAnywhere toolbar (see Figure 8).

Configuration
Configuring SONOS PC For Network Communication
NOTE The SONOS PC requires that its clock be reasonably synchronized with the SONOS system
clock. Both clocks must be checked or set during the SONOS PC installation.
NOTE The SONOS PC uses an IP address either obtained from a DHCP server, or manually entered
now. Refer to the Network Installation Worksheet for the required configurations, and
complete the applicable procedure.
• If the network uses DHCP, proceed to “Configure for a DHCP server” on page 12.
or
• If the network uses a static IP address, proceed to “Configure a static IP address” on page 13
