My dear Rakesh/ Riya
I hope you are doing well. It’s been a long time since I talked
with you. I hope this letter finds you in good health.
As you know that the whole world is suffering with Corona Virus,
so we are all under lockdown at home. During this time, we are
having online classes which I am enjoying a lot. Our teachers
have been sending interesting videos and many creative
worksheets to engage ourselves. By this online classes we are
able to read and understand the chapters. I find it very useful.
I have shared my views on the online classes. Now ,write a letter to
me telling how you are enjoying your online classes. Convey my
regards to uncle and aunty.

READING COMPREHENSION

Read and write the following passage and answer the


questions that follows: -
Most schools in India have a special day during the year called 'Sports Day'.
Does your school have a sports Day? On this day, all the children of the school
come together to take part in sports .There are no classes on that day. All the
pupils put on their sports-clothes, shorts or T-shirts or vests and running shoes.
The pupils take part in races and other track and field events. Athletes
compete with one another. They all try to do their best and win the
competitions they have entered. All the winners are given prizes .The losers go
away to practice harder so that they may win the next time. Parents, friends
and visitors come along to the school. They shout and cheer to help the
athletes run faster or jump higher and win. There is also an important person
who is invited to make a speech and give away the prizes at the end of the day.
Questions:
i. Which day is a special day in most schools of India?
ii. Name the various events in which the pupils take part?
iii. What do the children of a school do on this day?
iv. Who gives away prizes to the winners?

ARTICLES
Articles are words used before nouns and modifies nouns. They function as
Adjectives in the sentence.
Articles are of two types: Definite & Indefinite Articles
Definite Article- The
The is called the definite article as it is used to indicate something specific.
e.g. a) The building is very strong.
b) The boy is playing with a ball.
Indefinite Article-A/An

Indefinite article A/An can be used with singular countable noun when we
talk about general things.
“A” comes before singular noun that begins with a consonant sound.
Eg. a) A girl is playing piano.
b) The dog is chasing a cat.
An” comes before singular noun that begins with a vowel sound or a mute H.
Eg. a) She was holding an umbrella.
b) I am eating an apple.

Health is wealth. We cannot enjoy sound health without taking
exercise. Physical exercise means the regular movements of the different limbs
of the body. There is a close relation between body and mind. We cannot think
of a sound mind without a sound body. ‘A sound mind in a sound body’ is a

PREFIXES & SUFFIXES
Prefixes are letters that are added to the beginning of the word to make a new
word with different meaning. For eg , Unhappy, Impossible , redo etc.
Suffixes are letters that are added to the end of a main word. This often
changes the word to a different parts of speech. For example a verb to an
adjective. For eg, Harmless, Peaceful, childish etc.

Subject: The subject is who or what the sentence is about .It is either
noun or pronoun.

Predicate: The predicate tells what the subject does. Predicate always
start with a verb.
