Preliminary Introduction
Activities Game: Guess the Name
The teacher will flash word clues on the TV screen and let the learners guess the object being
described.
1. You need me when it`s hot, I make your drinks cold and make you drink your water a lot.
What am I? (ice)
Teacher: Is it true that when the water has ice, we drink a lot of it? (Pupils: Yes!) Is it necessary for us
to drink a lot of water? (Pupils: Yes!) Why? (The learners may give varied answers but the teacher
must direct them to the closest answer that water helps our body: a.) to keep a normal temperature;
and b.) to get rid of wastes through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements.)
2. I have many square tiles in many colors and you play by twisting my
tiles. What am I? (Rubik`s cube)
Teacher: Do you know who invented the rubik`s cube? (Pupils: Yes/No)
The Rubik's Cube was invented in 1974 by Ernõ Rubik, a Hungarian
architecture professor.
3. I am your favorite thing on Christmas and birthdays. You tear my wrapper to see what`s inside.
What am I? (gift)
Teacher: Do you love gifts? (Pupils: Yes!) Is it necessary that we should receive wrapped gifts on
Christmas or birthdays? (Pupils: Many may answer yes) The teacher will explain to the learners that
the most precious gifts are not those gifts inside a box or the material ones. Life, good health, and
everyday provisions that are priceless are more important. Take for example: there is a rich man who
can buy and give himself all the gifts he wants to have, but one day he found out that he has an
incurable disease – he has cancer. He got very afraid of his condition for there is no cure for cancer
and his riches cannot buy him a new life because that is very impossible. Lesson: We must value the
priceless gifts given by God and do not be a slave of the material ones.
4. You toss me up when you play games and when I drop you count my dots. What am I? (dice)
5. You put inside your pets so wild so that people will not be harmed. What am I? (cage)
Teacher: Based on the objects mentioned, which do you think is for the girls only? Or for the boys
only? Or Can it all be useful to both boys and girls? (All are useful to both girls and boys.)
Teacher: What do you think is the similarity of all the objects mentioned in our game?
Learners: They are all cube.
Unlocking of Terms
The teacher will define the following terms.
Face - is the surface of a thing
Edge - the outside limit of an object, area or surface
Vertex – a meeting point of two lines that form an angle
Group Activity
The teacher will divide the class into four groups. Remind the learners of the rules in doing group
activities.
Activity: Each group will be given a cube and strips of papers with the words face, edge and vertex
written. The learners will stick the word to the part of the cube that it corresponds. After three minutes
the leaders will bring the output in front and the reporter will do his/her task. Checking will follow to be
done by the teacher.

1. What do you call the solid figure that you used in the activity earlier? (Cube)
2. Is a cube a solid figure? (yes)
3. Can the cube stand alone without us holding it? (yes)
4. What part of the cube can stand? (the flat surface) How many surfaces are there where it can stand
alone? The teacher will call on a learner to count the number of flat surfaces of the cube
where it can stand. (The answer is 6.)
5. What do you call this part of the cube which makes it stand alone? (Face)
The face is the flat surface part where the solid figure can stand.
4.2 Developmental 6. When two faces are connected, what is formed? (Line) What do you call this line? (edge)
Activities The edge is the line that connects the two planes or faces. How many edges are there in the
cube? The teacher will call another learner to count the edges. Using the chalk, put a line on
the edge of the solid figure while counting them to avoid confusion. (The answer is 12.)
7. Can you see a pointed part of the cube? (yes) What do you call this pointed part of the
cube? (vertex) The vertex is the point where three or more planes meet together. Using a
marker, count the vertices of the cube. (The answer is 8.)
8. What solid figure do we have here? (a cube)
9. How many parts are there in this solid figure which is a cube? (three)
10. What are the parts of the cube? (The face, the edge and the vertex.)
Instructions: Perform the activity in five minutes. Follow the steps correctly.
1. Using the marker, count the faces of the cube. Put the number on the face of the figure and write your
answer on the chart.
2. Using the chalk, draw a line on the edge of the cube while counting the number of edges. Write your answer
on the chart.
Application 3. Using the marker, draw a point on the vertex while counting the number of vertices of the cube.
4. Review your answers.
