With several volunteer initiatives, I have been traveling to numerous schools in rural Lombok
with 1000 Guru. In general, students in rural areas don't have excellent access to education
and sometimes have to walk more than 30 minutes to go to school. Once the epidemic broke
out in 2019, this situation become considerably more complicated. The children of SDN 003
Filial Sambiq Elen, one of the few schools I have visited, are unable to participate in virtual
learning because they do not have access to the appropriate technology or internet access.
The teachers then made the decision to go to each student's home individually to teach them.
Sadly, they can only go to two houses in a day because of the difficult terrain. Since the
alternative did not appear to be the best option, I initiated a project called “Study Pack Project”
with 1000 Guru. The goal of this project was to create contextual educational materials that
included the collaborative work of parents, teachers, and students. This initiative produced
three books, one for students, one for teachers, and one for parents which we wrote based
on the national curriculum. The majority of the students were not exposed to the national-
term contexts. Therefore, I introduce the idea of building two characters named Manda, a
boy, and Lika, a girl, inspired by the Mandalika, refered by local legend, to address the
learning becoming culturally response. I also collaborated with like-minded people to join the
writing and preview process so that this initiative could go smoothly.
Please provide three practical and realistic examples of how you intend to use the
knowledge, skills and connections you will gain from your scholarship on your return
to Indonesia. Possible tasks can be personal and/ or professional. List any possible
constraints you think may prevent you from achieving these tasks. Commented [MOU12]: This one is good ang!
Studying development studies will equip me with knowledge and abilities in areas like project
management, global development concerns, and development from a variety of viewpoints,
such as human rights, gender, and disaster. This is closely related to my recent work with
1000 Guru Lombok and will enable me to cultivate a number of skills, including the ability to
map and plan projects, to design monitoring and evaluation scheme, and to effectively
communicate with others in order to reach a collective objective. Furthermore, the experience Commented [MOU13]: What objective?
will also get me close a good networking with INGOs, community, and like-minded people
which will be beneficial for my future plan in developing my work with my organization in term
of collaboration. Shortly, my experience studying development in Australia will not only allow
me to continue my work with my organization, but also to enable me reaching my goal toward
becoming a practitioner in development with expertise in research, policy, and practice. I did,
however, recognize that spending two years studying in Australia would provide me with
difficulties, such as homesickness and culture shock. In order to adjust to these scenario, I
will use my free time optimally to do volunteering on campus, attending workshops and
seminars, going on trips, and working a part-time job. I believe that by doing this, I may
develop my work ethics, broaden my horizons in looking upon the world, and appreciate my
whole process I am going through as a student.
