Perseverance Pays Off
On 13 November 2007, Mayor Brian McMullan
of the City of St. Catharines, ON, officiated at
the unveiling of a remarkable monument in
IODE Park. This project was initiated by
Lorraine Leyden, Vice President, South Central
Region Provincial Chapter of Ontario IODE,
to correct a 90-year historical oversight. The
land for this Park was donated by the City’s first
IODE chapter, St. Catharines Chapter, in 1917.
The park was never publicly identified. A 3 ton
stone monument from India was donated by the
Stone Centre in St. Catharines. Members plus
National and Provincial Officers were in atten-
dance. A luncheon with the Mayor followed the
dedication ceremony.
