Filomena Campos, born on March 30, 1930 was renowned for her contributions to cotton research in the Philippines. This study leads to the improvement of a package of expertise on cotton fabrication achieved in somewhat short period of three years. Paulo C. Campos (July 7, 1921 June 2, 2007) was a Filipino physician and educator noted for his promotion of wider community health care and his achievements in the field of nuclear medicine for which [1] he was dubbed as "The Father of Nuclear Medicine in the Philippines" . The first president of the National Academy of Science and Technology, he was conferred the rank and title of National Scientist of the Philippines in 1988. Lourdes J. Cruz is a biochemist whose research has contributed to the understanding of the biochemistry of toxic peptides from the venom of fish-hunting Conus marine snails. The characterization of over 50 biologically active peptides from the snail's venom had been made possible, in part, by her studies. She also contributed to the development of conotoxins as tools for examining the activity of the human brain. For instance, w-conotoxin is widely used for studying neutral calcium channels and mconotoxin is used when muscular activity must be controlled to examine events at the synapse.Dr. Cruz' scientific awards include: the NAST Outstanding Young Scientist Award,1981; the NRCP Achievement Award in Chemistry, 1982; and the Outstanding Women in the Nation's Services Award (Bio-chemistry).
Geminiano T. De Ocampo was a Filipino ophthalmologist known to some as the "Father of Modern Philippine Ophthalmology". He was the founder of the Philippine Eye Bank. He graduated valedictorian of his class at the Bulacan High School in 1926.
Dr. Jose Juliano, born on October 16, 1932 is famous for researches in nuclearchemistry and physics. In 1959, he was one of the receivers of the TONYM award for his involvement in Nuclear Science. He is also an affiliate of the American Nuclear Society, American Physical Society and the American Chemical Society. Dr. Melencio Magno has done studies on the absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy of crystals, specifically rare-earth crystals; effects of typhoons on the distribution of atmospheric ozone; sky luminosity; atmospheric radiation; gravitation; and the philosophy of science. He is a co-author of University Physics, a textbook in physics at the University of the Philippines.
Dr.Quirino Navarro noteworthy contribution to science is the willpower of nuclear assets in the isotopes of californium, einsteinium and dysprosium using cryogenic system. His conclusion were cited in two books and three worldwide tomes of nuclear science and later established at the University of California at Berkeley with the use of highly developed instrumentation.
Luz Oliveros Belardo researched the phytochemical properties of plants in the Philippines for natural products, essential oils, and the medicinal qualities. She produced thirty-three extractions of essential oils used for flavoring, scents, and herbal medicines.
Dr. Jose Rodriguez bid to stop Hansen's Disease commonly known as leprosy. He then planned a control program that was used here and in other Asian countries. He dedicated 53 years of his existence to the control and avoidance of leprosy in the Philippines. He was also tribute with the 1974 Damien Dutton Award. Dr. JD Soriano is a Geneticist recognized for his studies on Plant Cytogenetics and Mutations Research most of which found publication in international journals such as the Scientific American. By using radiations and chemical mutagens, Dr. Soriano contributed much to the eludication of the Mutation Process.
Filipino scientist Gregorio Y. Zara (D.Sc. Physics) invented, made improvements to, or discovered the following: invented the two-way television telephone or videophone (1955) patented as a "photo phone signal separator network" discovered the physical law of electrical kinetic resistance called the Zara effect (around 1930) invented an airplane engine that ran on plain alcohol as fuel (1952)
