    SUBJECT: Spot Report re: RA 9165 | Training Exercise | Shooting Incident

    DATE : May 11, 2023

    1. Reference:

    a. Witness report dated May 10, 2023, subject the same as above
    with Cite Number: R4aC-0404-41.

    2. On May 10, 2023, at about 10:00 o’clock in the morning at Habito St.,
    Ruanto CMPD., Ibabang Iyam, Lucena city, a training exercise in the neighborhood was
    executed and a shooting incident happened.

    3. Initial investigation disclosed that the criminology students had been


    conducting a training exercise in the neighborhood, during which they fired multiple
    rounds from the handgun. The group had failed to secure the area properly and had
    inadvertently shot and killed Juan Dela Cruz, who was passing by the area at the time
    of the incident. Using the bullet comparator, investigators were able to determine that
    the (1) piece of fired bullet found on the victim’s head and cartridge cases recovered
    from the crime scene matched those of a 9mm handgun. They were also able to link the
    weapon to a 9mm handgun that was recovered from the car of one of the criminology
    students involved in the shooting.
