Subject: Business Mathematics (Model Questions) Time: 3 Hrs.

practicable. The figures in the margin indicate full marks.

Group-A
Analytical Question [1×10=10]
Answer the following question.
1. Live Bakery Ltd produces three basic pastry mixes A, B and C. In the past, the
mix of ingredients has shown in the following matrix.

Due to change in the consumer’s taste it has been decided to change the mixes
using the following amendment matrix:

C +0.5 0 0

Using matrix algebra you are required to calculate:

a) The matrix for the new mix.


b) The production requirement to meet an order for 50 units of type A, 30
units of type B and 20 units of type C of new matrix.
c) The amount of each type (by Cramer’s rule) that must be made to totally
use up 3700 lbs of flour,1700 lbs of fat and 800 lbs of sugar that are at
present in store.

2. A certain company has fixed costs of $ 15000 for its product and variable costs
given by (140+0.04x)dollars per unit, where x is the total number of units.The
selling price of the product is given by (300-0.06x) dollars per unit

Required:

3. The quantity of Protien,Vitamin and Carbohydrates in each of Horlicks,Viva and


Bournvita are given below:

If the total quantities of protein,vitamin and carbohydrate taken by a patient in a
month are 20,19,17 units ,find the number of Horlicks, Viva and Bournvita used by
the patient in the month.If the costs of a horlivks ,viva and Bornvita are RS 450,Rs
430 abd Rs 425 respectively, find the total costs of the Horlicks,Viva and Bournvita
in the month.

4. A group of people gatherd in a club were asked whether they had smart phone of
Apple,Samsung and Nokia brand. The following table shows the information as
given by them.

Based on the above information construct necessary diagram to visualize and
calculate:

5. A firm sells a product for $80 per unit. Raw materials costs are $ 12.50 per unit,
labor costs are $ 27.50 per unit and annual fixed costs are $360,000.

Now determine,
a) Revenue, cost and profit function.
b) How many units must be sold to earn an annual profit of $ 250,000?
c) c) What would be the break even quantity? Also find the breakeven price for
the demand function q=p+60 where q is quantity and p is price.

6. Determine the value of k such that the following system of equations have 
i. Unique solution
ii. Infinite solution
