NOTICE

As per decision of meeting with all Principals/Teachers-in-Charge/Officers-in-Charge of the


affiliated Colleges under the University of Gour Banga held on 09.06.2023, this is to inform all
concerned that for the purpose of admission in UG Courses for Academic Session 2023-2024 the
Notifications No.: 266(31)-Edn(U)-EH/1U-45/2020(Pt.), Dated: 17.03.2023; No.: 339-Edn (CS)/OM-
74L/2023, Dated: 26.05.2023 and 354- Edn(CS)/10M-95/14, Dated: 02.06.2023 as issued by the
Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal are to be strictly followed.
Following guidelines for the Admission for Academic Session 2023-2024 have been adopted
in the meeting which are to be followed for the said admission.

1. Important Dates:

c) Publication of Merit Lists in UG Programmes by 20.07.2023
d) Completion of Admission at the UG Programmes by 31.07.2023
e) Start of 1st Semester classes UG Programmes on 01.08.2023

2. Programmes of Study:
(i) There shall be following types of Under-Graduate Programmes-
 4-Year UG Degree (Honours / Honours with Research)
 3-Year UG Degree
 As per the Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes,
developed by the UGC there will be provisions for awarding UG Certificate and UG
Diploma. Separate Rules/Guidelines will be framed in this regard.
 For 4 year UG Degree (Honours with Research), a student can choose a research stream
in fourth year subject to fulfilment of all conditions; laid down by the UGC for
implementation of NEP and Curriculum Credit Frame Work.
(ii) A candidate shall be allowed to pursue any one of the Programmes in a particular Academic
Session. At the initial stage, every student has to choose one Major subject and two
Minor subjects.

(iii) Students admitted either in any Programmes of Studies shall have to study Discipline Core
(DC) Courses, Generic Electives (GE) Courses, Discipline Specific Elective (DSE) Courses,
Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), Ability Enhancement Compulsory (AEC) Courses,
Value addition Courses (VAC), Apprenticeship / Project / Community Outreach Courses.
(iv) A student have to identify the different subjects/disciplines he / she will have to undertake as
per respective Course Structure to attain the required credits throughout the whole period of
eight/six (08/06) semesters of the programme.
(v) Programme, once chosen by the student, cannot be changed without approval of the
appropriate authority of the University.
(vi) All the Undergraduate students of the University have to register themselves for Academic
Bank of Credits (ABC) through http://www.abc.gov.in/ .

3. Minimum eligibility criteria:


(i) 4-Year UG Degree (Honours / Honours with Research): A student who has passed the
Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination held by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary
Education or its equivalent Examination from other Boards / Councils with at least four
subjects having English as Compulsory Subject of 100 marks is eligible to take admission to
the Honours Programmes of Studies of B.A./B.Sc./B.Com./B.C.A. on the basis of merit and
available vacancy of the particular subject(s) of the concerned college.
(ii) 3-Year UG Degree: A student who has passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Examination
held by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent
Examination from other Boards/Councils with at least four subjects having English as
Compulsory Subject of 100 marks is eligible to take admission to the General Programmes of
Studies of B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. on the basis of merit and available vacancy of the particular
subject(s) of the concerned college.
(iii) A student who has passed Higher Secondary (10+2) examinations (with English as a subject)
of the West Bengal State Council of Technical & Vocational Education and Skill
Development or any equivalent Courses from National or State Level Board in regular mode
shall be eligible to take admission to the 3-Year UG Degree Programme only.
(iv) NRI: In case of any NRI applicant the College Authority should seek permission from the
University Authority as well as from appropriate Authority.
(v) Students who have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) Examinations in the current
year, immediate previous year and the year before the previous year will only be
allowed to take admission.

(vi) Aggregate marks shall be calculated by adding the marks in top-four subjects, including
Marks obtained in English, in order of marks secured by a candidate. Marks obtained in
Compulsory Environmental Studies (if any) shall not be taken into account for calculation of
aggregate marks.

The selection criteria and merit will be prepared as per the provisions of the University. The Merit
Point Calculation will be done as follows:

a) Subject to the eligibility criteria, the merit lists for the 4-Year UG Degree (Honours /
Honours with Research) Courses will be prepared as:

i) (S+T)/4
[Where S = Subject marks (opted for Honours Course) and T = Marks obtained in English + best
marks of two other subjects].
ii) In case, any candidate opts for an Honours Course beyond his/her subject combination [except
linguistic subjects at H.S. (10+2) level], the merit point will be calculated as: T1/4.
[Where T1 = Marks obtained in English + best marks of three other subjects (excluding English)].

b) Subject to the eligibility criteria, the merit lists for the 3-Year UG Degree Course will be
prepared as:
T1/4
[Where T1 = Marks obtained in English + best marks of three other subjects (excluding English)].

(vii) Special conditions for admission: A student shall be allowed to take up a subject in any
Programme if he /she have passed in that subject at the qualifying examination. However, a
student shall be allowed to take up the subject(s) under Column ‘A’ if he /she have passed the
subject(s) under Column ‘B’ at the qualifying examination.

4. Intake Capacity and Reservation of Seats:


The intake capacity for each programme will be as follows:
 4-Year UG Degree (Honours / Honours with Research): The existing intake capacity in
honours subject as approved by the University will be the intake capacity for 4-Year UG
Degree (Honours / Honours with Research). However, the intake capacity will be increased
as per the provisions of Gazette Notification no. 339-Edn (CS)/OM-74L/2023 dated
26.05.23.
 3-Year UG Degree: The existing intake capacity in general subjects as approved by the
University will be the intake capacity for 3-Year UG Degree. However, the intake capacity
will be increased as per the provisions of Gazette Notification no. 339-Edn (CS)/OM-
74L/2023 dated 26.05.23.
 The Colleges will send revised intake capacity of each subject to the University before the
commencement of admission process for ratification.
 Reservation of seats: There shall be reservation of seats for SC / ST / OBC-A /OBC-B/
EWS and Differently-abled Candidates as per Rules/Orders of the State Government.
 The intake capacity as approved by the University should be compulsorily
maintained.
 Colleges will develop necessary mechanism to restrict the number of students
admitted in a particular major/minor subject.

5. Groups of Disciplines / Subjects:

A candidate is required to choose not more than one discipline/subject (major/minor) from any of the
groups mentioned below.
Group-I Physics, Zoology, Education, Women Studies
Group-II History, Mathematics, Food & Nutrition
Group-III Chemistry, Sociology, Arabic, Sanskrit
Group-IV Botany, Economics, Urdu
Group-V Political Science, Defense Studies, NCC
Group-VI Geography, Philosophy, Mass Communication & Journalism
Group-VII English, Home Science, Physical Education
Group-VIII Computer Science, Bengali, Hindi, BCA

Note: Choice of the discipline will be in compliance with the availability in the respective
college.
