A. Social Customs and Etiquettes
 Meeting Ettiquette
In france like many other country their usual or common form of greeting someone is by Handshake. Or if it is their
closest person they greeting each other by lightly kissing on the both side of the cheeks.
 Gift Giving Etiquette
When it terms of gift giving, there are some myths that they believed, like if you want to give someone a flowers it
should be given in odd numbers but not 13 because they considered it an unlucky number. They gave meaning with each
certain color of the flowers like white lilies as they were used at funerals, red carnations as bad will and any white
flowers for weddings.
 Dining Etiquette
If you are invited to a frenceh house for a dinner, arrive on time or arrive more than 10 minutes later than invited.
Sending flowers should be at morning so that they maybe displayed that evening. Dress well because french are fashion
conscious and their version of casual is not relaxed as in many countries.
B. Business or Workplace Practices
 Business Meeting Etiquette
French don’t want exaggerated claims because they do not appreciate hyperbole. They set meeting to discuss issues not
to make decisions.
 Business Negotiation
French business emphasizes courtesy and a fair degree of formality, so wait to be told where to sit. Always maintain
direct eye contact while speaking because it’s a sign for them that you don’t want to listen. Never attempt to be overly
friendly because french generally compartmentalize their business and personal lives.
 Dress Etiquette
Men should wear dark-coloured, conservative business suits for the initial meeting. And women should wear either
business suits or elegant dresses in soft colours.

Greece
A. Social Customs and Etiquette
 Greek Family Values
In Greece, family is their basis of the social culture. Like in Philippines, the family offers both financial and emotional
support to it’s members. The wrongdoing of one member brings dishonour to the entire family.
 Meeting Etiquette
Greeks are commonly warm and hospitable persons. Like in france, when someone meeting for the first time, they
shakehands firmly, smile and maintain direct eye contact.
 Gift Giving
Gifts are not should be expensive. Since gifts are generally reciprocated, giving something of great value could not put a
burden on the recipients, since they would feel obligated to give you something off equivalent value.
 Dining Etiquette
Arriving 30 minutes late is considered as punctual. Offering a help to the hosts with the preparation or cleaning up after
a meal is serve, it will may not be accepted but it will be appreciated.
B. Business or Workplace Practices
 Business Meeting Etiquette
During the first meeting your Greek business colleagues will want to get to know something about you as a person. The
second meeting is used to develop trust and mutual respect. By the third meeting, business may begin. Appointments
are necessary and should be made 1 to 2 weeks in advance, although it is often possible to schedule them on short
notice.Confirm meetings one day in advance by telephone.Many businesspeople eat lunch between 1 and 3 p.m., so this
is not the optimal time for a meeting.
 Business Negotiation
Forming a personal relationship is critical to developing a successful business relationship.Companies are hierarchical.
Greeks respect age and position.Business is conducted slowly,You will have to be patient and not appear ruffled.
Contracts are often quite simple since the personal relationship dictates that accommodations will be made on either
side should the need arised.
 Dress Etiquette
Business dress is as in most of Europe.Men should wear dark coloured, conservative business suits.Women should wear
either business suits or tasteful dresses, preferably in dark or subtle colours.

A. What are the things you’ve learned or realized from doing this activity?
Doing this activity is a great starter for us a Hospitality management student because it give us a backgroung information
on such different countries about their Social and Business Culture.Like in France in Greece they had a similarities and
differences in their Culture. It is important for us to know these kind of information because we can use it in the future.
B. How are these learnings or realizations helpful and applicable in your future work in a tourism and hospitality
establishment.
These learnings and realizations is very important in our future work as a Hospitality Student. Because one of the
requirements in this industry is you know this kind of Information and you are aware on different Kind or Cultures of
Different Countries. Because they will be our future colleague or future customers someday so it is important to know
their Culture better to build or have a good relationship with them.
