SDG Goal 2 for class VI

Introduction-The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global

Goals, were adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a universal call to action to end
poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and
prosperity.

The 17 SDGs are integrated—they recognize that action in one area will affect
outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and
environmental sustainability.

Countries have committed to prioritize progress for those who're furthest behind. The
SDGs are designed to end poverty, hunger, AIDS, and discrimination against women
and girls.
Goal 2 – Zero Hunger – pledges to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and
promote sustainable agriculture, and is the priority of the World Food Programme.

Did you know hunger and malnutrition prevent people from improving their live means?
Today more than 800 million people suffer from hunger.
To end this by 2030 we must start today.
Rethink Zero- The Zero Hunger Challenge
What is the Zero Hunger Challenge?
Zero Hunger challenge is the United Nations Secretary-General’s vision for a future where no
person is hungry,

where every woman, child and man enjoys their right to food;

women are empowered;

priority is given to family farming;

and food systems everywhere are made sustainable and resilient.

Is it possible to ensure that all people at all times have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious
and sustainable food?  This is the question that opened and challenged the World
Exposition in Milan in 2015.   A question that was answered in a definitive manner by UN
Secretary General Ban Ki-moon when he launched the “Zero Hunger Challenge”: we can
eliminate hunger  in our lifetime.
In order to maximize this impact, the UN chose the theme  “The Zero Hunger Challenge
∙ United for a sustainable world”, to make visitors understand that together we can
build a world where everyone has access to safe, sufficient, and nutritious food, and
can lead a healthy and productive life without compromising the needs of future
generations.
