The Science and Mathematics coordinators, Ms. Merry Cris Malalis Ms Shaira Lyne L.
Guba. Mrs. Anelyn Niaga and Ms. Remedios Fernandez prepared a series of activities and
appointed several committees prior to the actual imposition. This is to ensure the safety and the
optimization of students’ participation with the holistic understanding of their significant roles in
the events.
The SciMa celebration was launched during the first flag ceremony of the month. In the
first week, Mr. Jerson P. Alo, the school head of BIS, stated the purpose of the said month-long
event. The theme was elaborated further by Ms. Shaira Lyne L. Guba to emphasize the value of
students understanding and participation. From then on, after every flag ceremony, the Science
and Mathematics coordinators were set to give scientific and mathematical quotes and trivia, and
scientists and mathematicians to start the school week. The science and mathematics trivia were
answered by the students by dropping their entries in the dropbox located below the SciMa
bulletin board. Winners were drawn by lot for both elementary and secondary category. They
were announced and awarded every Friday, right after the flag retreat. Moreover, the
coordinators had an assembly meeting with all the members of their respective clubs; Science
and Mathematics Club to elect officers and appoint Student Science and Mathematics experts to
assist with the School Science and Mathematics Fair. (SciMath Apparatus Acquaintances) The
said activity aimed to advance the scientific and mathematical literacy among elementary and
secondary students through familiarization of the science and mathematics apparatus. It was
supervised by both mathematics and science coordinators. The young scientists and
mathematicians of BIS also explained its underlying concepts. On the same day, the community
clean-up drive spearheaded by the school heads, coordinators and advisers took place around
3:00-5:00 pm, within the school grounds and on the nearby areas. The entire students body
participated in this initiative and observed the proper waste segregation upon the retrieval of the
collected garbage. Moreover, the winners of the scientific and mathematical trivia of the week
were handpicked by the teachers from the pool of existing entries from the drop box. They
received a package of school materials as a reward which took place after the flag retreat.
On September 12-16, the school week started with another series of the scientific and
mathematical quotes and trivia of the week, including the designated scientist and
mathematicians of the week right after the flag ceremony. The coordinators also announced the
upcoming activities they have prepared for the rest of the week. To avoid disrupting the rest of
the classes, the scheduled poster-making contest only required the class participants’ attendance.
Representatives from elementary and secondary level were provided with the materials to
proceed. The participants’ pieces were then displayed at BIS multipurpose hall. On Friday,
(September 16), the coordinators facilitated the SciMath Quiz Bee with the participants coming
from the selected representatives from the secondary level. The event ended with the
coordinators with the proclamation and awarding of the winners. Another set of winners for the
scientific and mathematical trivia were also declared and were given awards following the flag
ceremony.
In the following week, (September 19-23, 2022) it started with the usual series of
activities prepared by the coordinators after the flag ceremony. In relation to the upcoming
events, the coordinators made announcements to ensure students’ full cooperation. On Monday
(September 19), the school conducted the essay writing and SciDamath competition. On Friday,
(September 23), selected representatives from all grade levels participated in the collage making.
The winners were then declared following the judges’ decision. Furthermore, the winners of the
scientific and mathematical trivia were drawn from the drop box and were announced by the end
of the flag retreat.
The last week of the SciMath celebration started the usual. Announcements regarding the
upcoming culmination were made including the symposium about drug education arranged by
Ms. Merry Cris Malalis. The school invited Mr. John Kevin Bugas, the department head of
Tangub City’s Anti-Drug Abuse office as the resource speaker. The symposium took place at the
BIS multipurpose hall and were attended by the whole student body including the entire teaching
force of Bintana Integrated School. On Friday (September 26), the coordinators and the rest of
the teachers prepared for the culmination that included the search for Bb at G. Kalikasan of BIS
2022, which was simultaneous with the awarding ceremony of the winners from all the
competitions conducted for this month-long celebration. The event was concluded with the
proclamation of the winners of the said titles. Needless to say, this affair had a massive impact
among the students towards transcending apprehension of both disciplines; Science and
Mathematics.
