USES
INTRODUCTION
A water jet cutter, also known as a water jet, is an industrial tool capable of cutting fabric lay
by using a very high-pressure jet of water, or a mixture of water and an abrasive substance.

Water Jet Cutting Machines take cutting to the next level and increase your choices of greatly.

A very fine water-jet is passed through a nozzle at a very high speed to cut the fabric lay.

Thickness of the lay has an influence on cutting quality.

INTRODUCTION
Lower the thickness of the lay better will be the cutting quality.

Like a normal saw, water is pumped onto the cutting wheel to reduce the heat that is created.
Machine works more efficiently with less friction, so less need for replacing the cutting blades.

Water used for jet needs filtration and de-ionization treatment.

Water pressure, nozzle size, and cutting speed are inter-related to cutting quality.

For doing this cutting ice table is used.

WATERJET CUTTING MACHINE
FEATURES
In water jet cutter, water or mixture of water is
used to cut fabric which is controlled by
computer.
Special software is used to cut fabric.
A very high velocity (60,000 pounds/ square
inch) and small diameter steam of water is
created by a water jet intensifier pump.
The high pressure jet acts as a solid tool and
sharp knife which can easily cut the fabrics,
leathers and plastic materials.
FEATURES :
As the jet penetrates successive plies in a spread, the
momentum decreases and cutting ability is reduced. So,
the lower lays of fabric cutting will be wide and less
effective.

The jet of water and loose fibers normally gets caught

and drains away by a catcher. It is in the bottom of the
fabric lays and moves with the same speed and the same
direction of water jet.

To improve the cutting speed, it is needed to adjust the

pressure and radius of the jet.
PURE WATER JET
Cutting with purely water jet streams is referred to as
‘Pure water jet cutting’, while, cutting with a mixture of
water and an abrasive substance is referred to as
‘Abrasive water jet cutting’.

It has a greater precision of machining , the tolerance is

in the order of + or -0.005 inch can be achieved easily

This does not require the addition of abrasive but rather

uses a pure water jet stream to cut.

This cutting method often used to cut softer materials

like fabric wood, rubber and more and widely used in the
garment industry
ADVANTAGES
Most effective to cut soft materials such as such as paper, foam, plastic, rubber,
leather, composites, and textiles

Sound of cutting is less.

The thermal damage to the workpiece is negligible due to no excess heat generation

Higher cutting speed.

The table is not cut as catcher is used.

Since there is no solid knife so, no sharpening is required.

DISAVANTAGES
There is a danger of wet edges.

Water spot may occur on fabric.

High cost.

Hard water causes rusting. So water must be filtered and de-ionized before use.

As in the lower lay, water jet spreads out and then cut is wider and rough at the bottom of the spread.

Not suitable for high lay of fabric.

The sound of jet needs to be controlled .

USES
Used to cut both soft and hard materials but soft materials
with more precision as comapred to hard materials. .

CAD/CAM software combined with CNC controllers transfer

drawings into a programmed path for the cutting head.

Used for denim fabric and garment finishing.

In the process called water-jet fading, strong jets of water

remove color gradually until the fabric gets the desired shade
of blue.

These nonchemical procedures cause little damage to the

fabric.
