DEMYSTIFYING THE
DEEP WEB VS. DARK
WEB
The deep web and the dark web are often confused but they
refer to different aspects of the internet. The deep web
encompasses all the web pages and content that are not
indexed by search engines, including private databases,
academic resources, and password-protected sites. It is
estimated to be significantly larger than the surface web. On
the other hand, the dark web specifically refers to a portion of
the deep web that is intentionally hidden and accessed
through specialized software like Tor. It is associated with illicit
activities, black markets, and anonymity. While the deep web
has legitimate uses, the dark web is known for its criminal
elements and illegal content.
