The Highlands Por Diego
explore the breathtaking beauty and hidden gems of the Scottish Highlands.
I'm your host, and today, we'll be delving into some of the most enchanting
places to visit in this mystical region. So, grab your walking boots and let's
embark on an unforgettable journey!
Its surface is about 25.659 km² and it has beautiful landscapes. Talking
about the Highlands it’s remarkable to mention the difference between
these two cultures (Scottish and Spanish) and the cultural impact that you
may notice if you don’t expect huge changes, for example, the food,
traditions, etc… Some people use to think that the lunch time in Spain is the
same for the rest of the world, but it is not, in the UK it’s much earlier. Also,
the high number of men wearing skirt could be impressive, another
difference is that there, the light hours in Scotland are less than Spanish
hours and the sunrise in summer is at half past three.
Now let’s make an introduction to the history of this place: one of the zones
which keep using the Scottish-Gaelic instead of Scottish (Between the 15th
century and the mid-20th century). Scottish kings, particularly James VI,
saw clans (the major social unit) as a challenge to their authority; the
Highlands was seen by many as a lawless region. Also, it’s a place where the
romans didn’t live which means that the Celtics culture is in nice
conservation and one of the best places to appreciate his culture all over
the county.
Our first stop takes us to the iconic Loch Ness, home to the legendary
creature known as Nessie. This vast and mysterious lake stretches for miles,
surrounded by rolling hills and dense forests as well as beautiful villages
that you shouldn’t skip to visit like the Fort Augustus, Drumnadrochit
village, Dores village (where a beautiful pebble beach is placed) or the
Urquhart castle. Take a boat tour to uncover the secrets of Loch Ness, as
you listen to captivating tales of sightings and immerse yourself in the
folklore that has captured the imaginations of people for centuries.
Next on our itinerary is the picturesque Isle of Skye. Known for its rugged
landscapes, dramatic cliffs, and fairy-tale-like castles, Skye is a paradise for
nature lovers and photographers alike. Be sure to visit the enchanting Fairy
Pools, a series of clear waterfalls and pools that offer a refreshing and
magical experience. And don't forget to explore the majestic rock
formations of the Old Man of Storr and the fairy-tale-like Dunvegan Castle.
Moving on, let's venture into the Cairngorms National Park, the largest
national park in the UK. Here, you'll find a true wilderness, with vast forests,
ancient mountains, and an abundance of wildlife. Lace up your hiking boots
and conquer the summit of Ben Macdui, the second-highest mountain in
Britain, for breathtaking panoramic views that will leave you in awe.
Finally, let's wrap up our journey with a visit to the charming village of
Pitlochry. Nestled amidst stunning Highland scenery, this quaint town is
known for its Victorian architecture and the magical spectacle of the
Pitlochry Dam and Fish Ladder. Take a leisurely stroll through the town's
streets, browse the local shops, and savor some traditional Scottish cuisine
at one of the cozy restaurants.
