PART II
DID YOU LIKE THE MOVIE? EXPLAIN WHY (DID IT MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS?
“Beauty and the Beast” exceeded my expectations. I was wrong to compare it to
the animated movie because both have their own features. This version was
exceptionally done and very interesting to watch. The extraordinary set design was
impressive. The performances stood out. Although I have heard most of the songs from
the animated version, they were still good to hear. The dialogs were apt for the movie.
Overall, the movie made me happy and satisfied.
SPOILER:
Gaston fatally shot the Beast from a bridge. After that, it collapsed when the
castle crumbled, and Gaston fell to his death. The Beast died as the last petal fell, and
the servants become inanimate. When Belle tearfully professed her love to him, Agathe
revealed herself as the enchantress and undid the curse, repaired the crumbling castle,
and restored the Beast's and servants' human forms and the villagers' memories.
LESSON:
We should look beyond the superficial and learn to be compassionate, humble,
and generous. True beauty comes from within; it is about being kind to others and not
only thinking about yourself.

“Beauty and the Bees”
BRIEF SUMMARY (ESSAY FORM)

Prince Adam was cursed to a beast form by an enchantress who saw no love in
his arrogant heart. The one way he could break the spell was to learn to love another
and earn her love in return before the last petal from his enchanted rose fell, which
would bloom until his twenty-first birthday.
Belle’s father, Maurice, got lost in the woods and sought shelter in the Beast's
castle. The Beast imprisoned him for trespassing. Belle, a bookworm who dreamt of life
outside her provincial village, found him trapped in the castle and offered her place
instead. The Beast accepted with a promise she will remain in the castle forever. In the
beginning, Belle viewed him as a monster, while he viewed her as difficult and stubborn.
Belle befriended the castle’s servants and as days passed, a friendship developed
between Belle and the Beast. Meanwhile, Maurice told the townspeople about the
Beast. Gaston, who wanted Belle to be her wife, agreed to help Maurice. But when
Maurice learned about his motive and rejected him, Gaston left him to in the woods to
be eaten by wolves. Maurice was rescued by a lady, Agathe, and when he told the
villagers about Gaston’s crime, he was sent to an asylum.
Belle found out what was happening to her father using a magic mirror. The
Beast set Belle free so she can save her father. Realizing that Belle had a fondness for
the Beast, Gaston had her thrown into the asylum carriage with her father, and led the
villagers to the castle to slay the Beast. Maurice and Belle escaped, and Belle rushed
back to the castle. Gaston attacked the Beast in his tower. When she saw Belle, the
Beast defeated Gaston but spared his life before reuniting with Belle. Gaston fatally shot
the Beast from a bridge, but it collapsed when the castle crumbled, and he fell to his
death. The Beast died as the last petal fell, and the servants become inanimate. When
Belle professed her love to him, Agathe revealed herself as the enchantress and undid
the curse. The Prince and Belle hosted a ball for the kingdom, where they danced
happily.
OPINION
This movie is a great live-action remake of a Disney classic. The cast is great
and the costume design is visually appealing. The songs are still as great as they were
in the animated version.
GENRE/TYPE OF MOVIE
Romance
PLOT
At the palace while having a ball, a greedy and coldhearted prince refused to
help an old beggar seeking shelter, so she transformed into an enchantress and turned
him into a beast and his servants into household objects. She casted a spell on the rose
and warned the prince that the curse will never lift unless he learns to love another, and
earn their love in return, before the last petal falls.
Belle lived in the province and wanted to see the other side of the world. She was
courted by Gaston, an arrogant former soldier. Lost in the forest, Belle's father Maurice
sought refuge in the Beast's castle, but the Beast imprisons him for stealing a rose from
his garden as a birthday gift to Belle. Belle ventured out to search for him, and found
him locked in the castle dungeon. The Beast agreed to let her take Maurice's place.
Belle befriended the castle's servants, who invited her to a spectacular dinner.
When she wandered into the forbidden west wing and found the rose, the Beast was
enraged and she ran off into the woods. She was ambushed by a pack of wolves, but
the Beast rescued her, and got injured in the process. As Belle nursed his wounds, a
friendship developed between them. The Beast showed Belle a gift from the
enchantress, a book that can transport readers wherever they want. Belle used it to visit
her childhood home in Paris, where she discovered a plague doctor mask and realized
that she and her father were forced to leave her mother's deathbed when her mother
succumbed to the plague.
Gaston wanted to rescue Belle and found it as an opportunity to win her hand in
marriage, and agreed to help Maurice. When Maurice learned of his motive and rejected
him, Gaston abandoned him to the wolves. Maurice was rescued by the herb-wife
Agathe, but when he told the townsfolk of Gaston's crime but is unable to provide solid
evidence, Gaston convinced them to send Maurice to an insane asylum.
After sharing a romantic dance with the Beast, Belle discovered her father's
predicament using a magic mirror. The Beast released her to save Maurice and gave
her the mirror to remember him with. At the village, Belle proved Maurice's sanity by
revealing the Beast in the mirror to the townsfolk. Realizing that Belle loves the Beast,
Gaston had her thrown into the asylum carriage with her father, and led the villagers to
the castle to slay the Beast. Maurice and Belle escaped, and Belle rushed back to the
castle.
Gaston attacked the Beast in his tower, who was too depressed to fight back, but
regained his spirit upon seeing Belle return. He defeated Gaston, but spared his life
before reuniting with Belle. However, Gaston fatally shot the Beast from a bridge, but it
collapsed when the castle crumbled, and he fell to his death. The Beast died as the last
petal fell, and the servants become inanimate. When Belle tearfully professed her love
to him, Agathe revealed herself as the enchantress and undid the curse, repaired the
crumbling castle, and restored the Beast's and servants' human forms and the villagers'
memories. The Prince and Belle hosted a ball for the kingdom, where they danced
happily.
ACTOR’S PERFORMANCE (if fit for role)
Emma Watson, who played Belle, was a charming lady in the movie. She was
enchanting. She also showed innocence and strength.
Dan Stevens as Beast, played his role well. He was scary and mysterious.
Luke Evans as Gaston, appeared old to be a suitor of Belle but he was good in
portraying as a narcissist.
Kevin Kline as Maurice, was perfect for the role. He showed Belle how a loving father
he was.
Hattie Morahan as Agathe / Enchantress , was realistic portrayal as a beggar and at the
same time, looked stunning as the Enchantress.
Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, was genuinely funny in the movie, yet, he was convincing
as a Frenchman.
Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, had a comforting voice.
Nathan Mack as Chip, was a lovable child. He was entertaining.
Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra, was effective in giving rules. He was
authoritative.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, had a satisfying performance as a playful girl.
LIKES/DISLIKES
What I liked in “Beauty and the Beast” is that it had stunning sets and location.
The musical numbers were breath-taking. The computer effects were amazing.
What I did not like was that Gaston seemed too old for Belle.
