Inside this survey, several topics are covered on contemporary global and cultural issues such
as cultural appropriation, racism and xenophobia, language and linguistic diversity, climate
change (a very serious issue for the world), Quality education and information, religious
tolerance and freedom of belief, healthcare and access to medicine, aging population and
gerontology and lastly refugee crisis. All these issues are sufficiently explained.
Cultural Appropriation
Cultural appropriation has been a subject of debate in recent years as many people from
different cultures have come forward to address the issue. When one culture adopts elements,
such as music, fashion, or symbols, from another culture without permission, understanding, or
respect for their cultural significance, it often leads to serious problems. This practice can offend
members of the culture being appropriated and can contribute to the further marginalization of
their culture, often perpetuating stereotypes and history of oppression.
Moreover, the act of cultural appropriation can pose significant consequences such as erasure,
commoditizing, or even destructing of the original culture's value and meaning. Many
marginalized cultures and communities do not benefit when non-members take and use their
art, fashion, or other cultural elements for commercial purposes without recognition or fair
compensation. Therefore, it is essential that individuals educate themselves on the historical
and cultural significance of the practices, rituals, or symbols they use or express interest in,
seek permission from members of the culture involved, and show respect and appreciation for
the culture they are learning about.
Rights regarding gender identity and sexual orientation are still evolving, and the fight for
equality still continues in many parts of the world. The fight entails continued activism, lobbying
and representation in the political arena, and advocacy through social and traditional media.
Society needs to be more accepting and should learn about inclusivity to bring change on this
front. Discrimination should never be acceptable, and individuals should always be treated with
respect regardless of their gender identity, sexuality or any other status. In this regard, it is
becoming increasingly important to raise awareness and promote respect for human rights for
all communities.

Racism and Xenophobia
Racism and xenophobia pose serious threats to social, economic, and political stability in many
parts of the world. People who experience racism and xenophobia find themselves subjected to
hate crimes, prejudice, unequal treatment and sometimes become a target for societal and
political unrest. It creates a toxic environment that makes it difficult for people to coexist
peacefully in society. Racism and xenophobia preclude opportunities from people based on
factors outside their control like skin color or country of origin, which is not only unjust but
discourages community growth and development.
The impact of racism and xenophobia creates a prolonged cycle of maltreatment that can be
passed down from one generation to another. The development and promotion of anti-racist
policies and proactive efforts to educate people about cultural diversity are essential tools in
combating racism and xenophobia. Also, there needs to be a change in social attitudes towards
people from diverse backgrounds. People must learn to accept individuals based on their
personal traits rather than categorizing them under a particular race, nationality or religion. By
moving away from such discriminatory attitudes, we help build more inclusive communities that
value and respect everybody regardless of their background.
One way to preserve and recognize minority languages is through education by offering
language courses and classes that can teach future generations to communicate in their
ancestral tongue. It is also necessary to create documentation of those languages and dialects,
including writing systems and dictionaries, to help in its preservation. In some countries,
governments and organizations have implemented policies and legal measures to protect
linguistic diversity, such as providing funding for language studies and supporting the media in
broadcasting programs in minority languages. Overall, the preservation and recognition of
minority languages and dialects are essential to maintain cultural diversity, improve
communication and respect for other people's cultures.
Climate change
Climate change is one of the most pressing global challenges facing humanity today. The rise in
atmospheric temperature caused by human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and
deforestation, is causing severe environmental, social and economic impact around the world.
The effects of climate change manifest in various forms such as rising sea levels, droughts,
2
wildfires, heatwaves, and melting of polar ice caps. Climate change also disrupts natural
ecosystems and leads to a loss of biodiversity.
The need to combat climate change has spurred a global movement towards environmentalism.
Through sustainable practices such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to
changing weather patterns, the world aims to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Governments, businesses, and individuals are working to prioritize clean energy sources,
protect the planet's natural resources, and adopt green lifestyles. The environmentalism
movement acknowledges that the health of ecosystems and ecological balance of our planet
are closely tied to our own collective well-being. As a result, protecting the environment and
combating climate change is vital to ensure the continued survival of human civilization.
The consequences of an unequal access to education and information are far-reaching. It can
lead to inequality, social unrest, poverty, and overall underdevelopment. However, recent
advances in technology and online learning platforms have created opportunities to bridge the
gap in access to education and information. Technological solutions can provide access to
quality educational materials, regardless of location or socioeconomic status. Additionally,
governments and organizations around the world are working to develop policies and programs
that work to ensure all individuals have access to quality education and information. Ultimately,
this work is crucial to building a more equitable society where everyone has the chance to
develop their skills and achieve their potential.

Healthcare and access to medicine
Healthcare and access to medicine play a crucial role in ensuring the wellbeing of individuals,
families, and communities. The availability of affordable and accessible medical care and
resources has been linked to reduced mortality rates, improved health outcomes, and increased
life expectancy. However, individuals in underserved areas or those facing poverty often
struggle to access quality healthcare services due to various factors such as high costs of
treatment, lack of insurance coverage, a shortage of healthcare providers, and limited
infrastructure.
The consequences of limited access to medical care can be devastating, especially for
vulnerable communities. In underserved areas, healthcare services may not be available at all
or may be limited in scope and quality, leading to higher rates of preventable diseases, chronic
illnesses, and premature deaths. Additionally, individuals from low-income households may not
have the financial resources necessary to pay for healthcare services or may have to choose
between basic necessities like food and healthcare expenses. Therefore, increasing access to
healthcare and medicine is essential to ensure that everyone has a chance to achieve optimal
health and wellbeing.
Gerontology is the scientific study of the physical, mental, and social aspects of aging, including
the effects of aging on society as a whole. The field of gerontology is becoming increasingly
important as more people live longer lives. Gerontologists work in a variety of settings, from
hospitals and nursing homes to research institutions and advocacy organizations. Their
research helps provide insight into the aging process and how society can best serve its elderly
population. Gerontology also encompasses important ethical considerations regarding end-of-
life care and decision-making processes for older adults who may lack capacity. As the world
population continues to age, the field of gerontology will become even more crucial in
addressing the needs of older adults and designing policies to promote their well-being.
Refugee crisis
The refugee crisis is a complex phenomenon that arises when people are forced to flee their
homes due to war, persecution, or environmental disasters. Displacement causes many
challenges for refugees as they struggle to integrate into new societies while retaining their own
identity and cultural values. The struggle to balance assimilation and preservation can lead to
4
various problems such as isolation, discrimination, and marginalization. Nevertheless, policies
such as education, employment, and social support can be leveraged for the successful
integration of refugees. The management of the refugee crisis requires a comprehensive
approach from both the host communities and international organizations to ensure that the
displaced people receive the necessary protection and support that they need as they try to
rebuild their lives in a new country.
We have addressed some serious topics that are affecting the world. It is important to raise
awareness about these issues so everyone can tackle them to build a better world.
